I would pin point season 9 it's when things start to get serious. Till the lake scene Dean is missing "the best friend he ever had" like Bobby would say. After that feels a little different, there a whole lot of pain.
Sometimes I just can't handle how Cas knows Dean thinks he doesn't deserved to be saved but that doesn't stop Cas from sacrificing himself to save Dean over and over 😭
The first one where Chuck goes into detail on how Cas died and then pulls the molar out of his hair hits way different on rewatch. You can see him watching for the brothers' reactions, too. Evil, drama-addicted bastard.
the fact that in 15x18 dean won't even answer his phone when sam calls speakes volumes. every time something bad happens he does feel pain and grief, but he almost instantly goes into damage control mode and "goes back to work". just that time he can't, and in season 13 he almost gives up as well. it's so heartbreaking to see. in season 13 it takes like 0.2 seconds for him to be literally over the moon happy as soon as cas is back (although he should be extremely suspicious as to how that's even possible, but he doesn't give two shits, he's just happy he got cas back).
Dean having to wrap Castiel's body is the worst (so, the best?). I remember something on tumblr being like when Dean was wrapping Cas, that was the most intimate they had ever been, and Cas was dead for that. It also haunts me because that's the ONLY time we've seen someone's body prepared for the pyre, so it holds a different amount of grief than other death (for me, I guess).
season 12 death is arguably the worst because it has both staying power (other deaths lasted only hours or even minutes) and left a body behind for dean to grieve over tangibly (season 7 had staying power but no body). like, you can see dean hoping for one last miracle revival when he checks cas' body under the sheet. even up until the moment that he lights the lighter, he hesitates before finally giving in and crossing that final threshold ( "What gets burned, stays dead")
Season 4: losing your ally Season 5: losing your friend Season 7: losing your best friend Season 9: losing your boyfriend Season 12: losing your husband Season 15: losing the love of your life
instead of "don't do this Cas." Dean should have said "don't leave me." would have made the impact far greater and we would've a little bit of closure on his feelings...
Had he said "don't leave me Cas", Cas would have gone to the Empty with guilt and a broken heart. This way at least Cas went happily. If he had died miserable, we would still be reeling from the aftermath of the emotional pain. Thankfully the writers were compassionate enough to spare us from THAT pain!!! 🙏🙏🙏
He never really recovered from 12, did he. The difference between 7 and 9 is stark too. And I think having to look for Cas in Purgatory did a number on Dean.
do you think that was what made Dean fall in love with Cas ? or something else? I believe it happened around that time... just can't exactly say what triggered the change
@@eveninthesoup6519 The question wasn't even for me but I have to say that I personally believe that Dean was physically attracted to Cas since the beginning. And apart from that, there is a part (I don't remember exactly which one) when Cas and Dean had an "appointment", when Castiel teletransported? Dean where he was, like in the middle of a route, and Dean says "that's a pretty good timing Cas" and "Don't ever change" while smiling at him. That's where I think Dean started to get more like romantic feelings towards Castiel, and since then, they just grew. But I can't tell when Dean realised about those feelings tho, I stopped watching the show a while ago. And for Cas I think he always had an interest in Dean, in trying to understand him, so I don't think it took much of him to start felling in love since the beginning.
@@eveninthesoup6519 i think loosing Cas at the beginning of season 7 was the catalyst for Dean to realize how much he cared about Cas. In the scenes where Cas has no memory of anything you can just see how hurt dean is by this. I think purgatory was just a direct result of that "I can’t loose him again" . You know with the whole "everything in purgatory feels more pure" it made his true feelings come to surface even after he gets out.
this show was so messed up. 😂 a single character's reaction to a single other character dying takes over ten minutes because they died so many times. I loved it.
I think what broke Dean more in season 12 was the fact that Lucifer did it purely out of his own enjoyment like he really didn’t have to kill him, he just wanted to. It must’ve hurt Dean with the thought that possibly every one of the more powerful beings in the world saw Cas as just a speck in their eyes while Dean saw him as so much more.
Every time when Cas died he died for Dean (except leviathans but he did all of that with them for Dean too, basically) and every time Dean was with him and saw him die (except first death but Cas probably died immediately after he sent Dean away). 😭
Season 7 is when it changes. Up till then Cas is just a "close friend", even though Dean keeps looking at Cas' mouth then licking his own lips (I'm familiar with that habit). But in 7, especially when Cas walks into the lake, Dean's reaction is stronger and he's "maybe he's not really gone" - and he keeps the coat, which speaks volumes to anyone who's had a loved one die. Then in season 9, the broken way Dean says his name when Cas dies... After Gadreel/Sam brings him back, and Sam collapses again, Dean immediately starts for Sam the way he usually does - but turns back to Cas instead when Cas wakes up. Cas is the only person who could have diverted Dean's attention from Sam that way. Season 12 is the devastating effect of losing the person you love most in the world, and the depression that follows. Anyone who says Dean wasn't in love with Castiel is incapable of seeing. Dean telling Cas (more than once) "I need you" is the equivalent of saying "I love you".
Cas you are my brother. That line said dean more than once. He loves cas as his brother and the longer they were along, the stronger the feelings has become, but he is not so much in love with cas that we can consider this as a gay thing. Jensen himself said that his is totally against this because this doesn't suit to dean. In season 8 where cas and dean found the angel tablet and cas beat him.... the writers wanted dean to say I love you, instead of I need you and jensen was against it, because dean isn't gay.
Just imagine if the finale went this way instead. Dean: So Jack did all that? Bobby: Well.. Cass helped. Dean: Looks at him confused and asks, “Cass?”. Wings flapping: Hello Dean. Screen: Fades Black.. We audience members: Scream in happiness, and pissed off, because they made it as if it were a cliffhanger.. Therefore.. Fandom: Broken. 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Only the blind would say that Destiel is not real. Dean loved Cas too, even if not as much as Cas did Dean. Dean never had any stable relationship with any woman, Lisa doesn't count, as that was Dean giving up. He most of the time was jealous of Sam, cuz though Sam didn't have half as many flings as Dean, Sam almost always could share an emotional connection with his partners. For Dean it was always "been there, done that, the end." I have always had my suspicions, that Dean is not heterosexual. And it seems I was right. Ever since Cas came into his life, he fell in love slowly. And it wasn't a sexual love, it was beyond that. And he also knew that in the whole world, the only one who would accept him with all his faults and mistakes, is Cas. Cas would love him no matter what, and always have his back. Not even Sam can do that. But he was in denial, till the very end. This love of Dean becomes clearer when Cas dies in Season 12. 15×18 is just a solid proof. They deserve a closure in Heaven. If not, never gonna watch any Spn spinn-offs, ever.

By season 12 I wasn’t’ feeling much about anybody dying because nobody stays dead, but Dean’s reaction to Cas’ death had me crying for real. And Season 15, gut punch. I literally felt like I couldn’t breathe for a minute.
The last scene should have ended when Cas threw Dean down; Dean freaks out, admits he loves Cas too, but it’s like one of them desperate confessions, and it ignites some sort of power, a light. The message Cas gave was about love and the message we learn in life is love conquers all. Dean’s love could have destroyed the Empty, after it removed Billy. Not saying the boys should have immediately had some gay wedding or something, and I know the show ended, but Dean could have had his happy ending with Cas, somehow, without both of them being dead. Unfortunately for us covid ruined every reunion that should have happened in Heaven. Ugh. But since the show was ending, they literally didn’t even have to make it this huge gay thing. Just confirm this relationship is REAL, save these guys, who deserve it and carry on. Shit was so emotional.
Seeing Dean in silent cry brought me to cry too and gives me flashbacks the day him and Castiel first met and the moments they shared. Silent cries are the most painful tears tbh
@@randomepic6204 Mans really this stressed over a show. Over the identities of fictional characters. Guess what bud, they don't care if we say they're gay, they don't exist.
@@scrypticism I know your really stressed over a show🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's why your the one desperate to convince people they're gay. And your using my tactics, that's a new one. It is a fictional show with non gay characters. Atleast your making progress kid
from the beginning (s4) when cas was hurt / dead bc he had been trying to help/save the winchesters or dean, dean blamed HIMSELF then cas literally sacrifices himself for dean at the very end that's just CRUEL.... i cannot even imagine what it must have felt like 😭
I see comments all the time about how poorly Dean treated Cas. They're not entirely wrong, there were times when Dean was more harsh than he maybe could have been, but I fully believe those times always came when Dean was under tremendous amounts of stress and not able to cope with his feelings. Dean doesn't do emotions well, at least not when it comes to expressing them, and it's obvious how deeply he cares about Cas and I believe that's very scary for Dean. He's so hell bent on being an Alpha Male that having complicated feelings about another man makes him push Cas away. But I don't believe for a second that Dean didn't love Cas with everything he had.
We all have the right to classify the relationship between Dean and Castiel as we wish, we have the freedom to express our opinion, think and feel what we want about this series. In the end, it was all about love and sacrifice between brothers, friends or lovers. It doesn't matter with which eyes you look.
Dean doesn’t give up often. But when he lost Cas in season 13, he was ready to leave it all. And in season 15 when Sam had Those visions, Dean gave up after losing Cas. Cas makes him better.
Is this what my life has come to? Grieving about Supernatural ending so I'm watching Cas die? 😭 Edit:You know Misha had fun playing Leviathan Cas🤣 Edit again:THE LAST ONE HIT SO HARD.😭😭😭 he finally told Dean that he loves him :(
Okay so I've just started watching Spn and I'm about to finish the second season. I've just stumbled across some Destiel moments and I totally ship it and I saw some Cas moments. BUT the length of this video actually really scares me. Because... 13 minutes?! How many times did he die?! I don't wanna know that actually. Because even though I don't know much abt Cas and Destiel, I can almost feel the pain present in this video.
i read somewhere that in season 12 when cas dies dean looks up like he's trying to see him in the sky, where he might be in heaven. because he's angel and he's dean's angel and he should be there, right? makes me wanna throw myself into the sun
I think that if they had actually had the grief last in Dean after 15x18 I would have been more content with it. If they had addressed Cas's death and given us some closure on Dean's side, it would have felt more finished. Instead, the next episode, we just... move along. When Cas comes back after his season 12 death, Sam makes a point to mention how noticeably depressed and pessimistic Dean had been since Cas's death and everything. The fact that Dean is chipper and joking around with Sam IMMEDIATELY after Cas's death... it doesn't sit well. Also, to all the naysayers in the comments, to quote Misha Collins, the actor who plays Castiel: "So Castiel makes this *homosexual* declaration of love..." Shut the fuck up. It was meant to be viewed as a *ROMANTIC* love confession. Who's in denial, again?
You can tell each time Castiel dies how much more the brothers care about him. The first doesn't affect then as much. By season 12, it's like losing their family. And obviously Dean's reaction is season 15😭
So Cass died twice the same way (1st was only mentioned, but we got to actually see it the 2nd time); he died a few minutes after fake-dying; was stabbed by an angel blade, brought back by an angel, and then Dean says "never do that again" only to be killed with an angel blade again and to be brought back by the Son of Lucifer
Bobby, Sam, and Dean all loved Cas as a brother or family. An angel doesn't have a gender so Cas may have loved Dean romantically, but without gender it wasn't gay or straight, just love. As Sam called Dean couldn't answer because his other brother just died and he wasn't ready to tell him or emotionally deal with it. Dean was heartbroken
Missed a death, Cass was stabbed with Michael's lance and he says his goodbyes to the Winchesters before Crowley broke the lance in pieces and it healed Cass, but I think it still counts
@@georgiastone3025 No, they’re talking about the very last scene in the show. I think because of the COVID19 pandemic, there could not be many actors flown in for that, Misha included. I think they were hinting at a rescue Cas from the Empty scene, but that never happened.
I’m sorry but the only way I was able to cope with Dean dying was thinking that he gave up in that barn bc he didn’t want to live in a world where Cas didn’t exist anymore because other than that it just doesn’t add up? They had just defeated LITERAL God and he gives up bc of a rusty piece of rebar? Absolutely not.
@@randomepic6204 I don’t think we were watching the same show then babe. Do you come to videos about dean and castiel being INLOVE just to comment bullshit? Bc that’s a really sad life to live.

@@randomepic6204 you literally have a fvcking hot wheels header please get the fuck out my replies I genuinely don’t care for your version of events when both the person who WROTE and the person who ACTED in the confession scene explicitly said it was a homosexual declaration of love. Again. COPE
omg that first one feels so different now that we know that chuck is god. Maybe he wanted cas killed. Also how could cas not see that chuck was god? maybe he could hide his true form?
Cas died and came back, and died and came back,... and he eventually died again. That's too rude for me, just hope that maybe he come back after the final scene when Dean hear Cas's voice by Lucifer.
"hey ass but!!!" Throws the fire and burns Micheal "Did you just Molotov my brother with holy fire😡" ".....uuuuuhhh....heh no😅" Cas's inner thoughts- well f-ck I'm screwed
