Yes it is aired weekly, but most of the contents are not made to YTubes with subtitles, because most of the time it is all about Germany. And subtitles would not make any sense when the viewers are not German and not familiar with German politicians, especially the "smaller" ones from our federal states. Nobody will laugh about a joke which is about someone they have never heard of... And moreover, some jokes are simply not translatable - e.g. puns or alike. But when it is about world politics, most of the time someone will make a YT with subtitles :)
If the British want to return at some point, the members of the EU will decide whether that is even possible. If an EU country vetoes it, the British will stay out.
Well, in theory, GB should be able to join the EU... again. The real problem will be more along the lines of EU members not wanting "joining, leaving, joinin, leaving..." to be the new normal for countries to engage whenever there's something they don't like. GB would have to do some convincing.
I think the scene with the Telekolleg course “English for Brexiteers” needs to be explained. The Telekolleg is a television college, - educational television, where you could learn to play chess or Skat, but also learn English, Latin, French or Italian, history, politics or higher mathematics. It used to support night schools. Today, of course, it's easier to do this online. The English course “Englisch für Anfänger" (=English for Beginner), which led up to B1 level in 51 episodes, was very well known. The moderator was Graham Pascoe, a Brit who really embodied the German stereotype of an Oxford graduate - beard, glasses, knitted wool sweater and snooty English. (There are some episodes online if you look for Graham Pascoe.) There were always parodies of it, some of which Graham Pescoe took part in. For example, an advanced course "English for Runaways" (a literal translation of "Englisch für Fortgeschrittene" = English for advanced). Today, when someone claims to speak perfect English but doesn't actually, we say that he speaks "English for Runaways".
The images that appear on the left top corner are mostly word games/puns which you can't grab if you're not a native speaker. "Hängebriten" means "hanging Brits" but it refers to the German word "Hängetitten" which means "sagging/hanging tits" - this is why the image shows a Brit with sagging tits. :-)
2:20 Yes, they could in theory return into the EU, but GB had many advantages and special rules when they were in the EU and they won't get those back. And GB wouldn't have the influence they had in the EU, that is something they lost forever. GB vetoed many regulations and slowed things down. That is something that does not happen that much anymore with other countries and people don't want those problems back. The British government is slow. Since start of Brexit they had the chance to make their own laws and regulations, could have prepared for the changes to being third country for the EU and did nothing. They had the illusion they could leave without changing anything - leaving, keeping the benefits, but not paying for them - Doesn't work that way.
In case the English apply for a new membership in the eu, they will get worse conditions than theyve had... Theyve always had an advantage in the eu. Lets see, where eu goes in the next couple of years....
2:20 Theoretically they could return. Of course they would have to give up all their exceptions and rebates and privileges and be just like any other EU member country. But knowing British exceptionalism I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. And looking at the current state of the EU (from a German point of view), maybe it's not such a good idea to join right now anyway. Sure the EU does some good things but mainly it's an undemocratic and unaccountable behemoth run by lobbyists.
Ähm, the EU is a measly trade union. They have no direct political power and their rules dictate that any major action needs 100% support of its members. That is why Orban is able to blackmail the other members every time the EU wants to do something big. To call them undemocratic is simply wrong but I agree that we have way to much lobbyists in their. For a trade union it makes absolute sense but the EU wants to be more than that. Any change made in that direction should start with some pretty agressiv anti-lobby and anti corruption regulations or we will be in deep shit. After that a majority vote system would be a pretty good improvement.
