About "The Forgotten City", Yahtzee complained about being able to keep your inventory after each time loop, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if you did lose your inventory after each loop and had to acquire it all over again, he'd be complaining about THAT instead!

@@alexanderfreeman3406 You don't really lose everything in Majora's Mask. Mask all end up staying, you can put money in a bank to save it, what you can't keep only is relevant to a single area most of the time or a single quest. At best Majora's Mask has the illusion that you lose everything at first, but that illusion is only really kept for the first few cycles. Basically to force you to focus on specific plot threads rather then doing everything at once and just spamming reset.

It's such a weird choice to have a guy go ahead of your character, get stuck, just so they could leave a note for the character. It's probably an artifact from the Skyrim mod, sure, maybe to amp up the player to the difficulty of the puzzle, but it does make the old archeologist look like a ponce.

Ya. Technically it does have a story payoff, but I got one of the endings in 3 days. Would have been 2 but I wanted to see what happened with the election. Got all the endings in 7 days. Game is a bit too easy for that element to work. Mainly because things don't happen without you, so there is no risk of a event making you reset when you don't want to.(apart from the first day with the archer) Perhaps the guy who went before us had no idea how to use a bow, would make things difficult.

He does start to look a bit dull after a few loops, doesn't he? Especially since Mr. Magistrate dude will *SPOILERS BELOW* Obligingly wait for you to sin, even after the big reveal that he remembers everything, before opening the portal, thus leaving the ball perpetually in your court. I would spend a merry 100 loops just breaking the Golden Rule when he didn't expect it, if I didn't have more important shit to do.

I enjoyed The Forgotten City a lot while noticing a lot of the wobbly-Ikea-bookshelf qualities Yahtz alluded to. It doesn't overstay its welcome and has a nice payoff, and I actually loved how easy it was to break the economy by stealing money from that asshole merchant each loop.

Timeloop games pace player progress by providing precipitous but private paths to pass the puzzles. There was never a real economy, just a price-tag shaped puzzle that, once solved, never needed to be a problem again. That's why everything you get from using money is infinite-use - that part of the game/story is over.
@faustlican5566

The Forgotten City also has some good endings and a class system. The classes can give you either a stat boost, extra dialogue choices or a gun. The endings can be boiled down to "the more effort you put into the game, the better the ending". The portal was opened by some old guy there, so you could theoretically just blow his head off and walk away. However the endings reflect upon the effort in your run. Just shooting old guy gets you the worst ending.

I really enjoyed Forgotten city, but I personally found the big twist about the place to be somewhat obvious. The "everyone's doomed for one sinner's actions" thing threw me off for a bit, but the beginning had me figure it out like the easiest game of Connect the Dots. Seriously, what was I, a Mythology nerd, supposed to think when we wake up at the Tiber, with a woman in a black Hoodie and a rowboat saying she dragged us out of the river? And her name's "Karen?" That said, I did find it an interesting take on the idea of how cultures will adopt or take factors of civilizations from before their time, I liked what they did with that dude that tried before you, I like how they made the primary antagonist someone you speak to almost every cycle, etc.

I know every motherfucker has already said this but- The Forgotten City looks, feels and plays like a reject Bethesda title because it started life as a Skyrim quest mod. One of the most famous and played mods in fact. The keeping inventory bit is probably a holdover from the mod where unless you had more health potions then gold, you HAD to keep your inventory because the best ending required you to break the law at least once. I heard they were making the mod into a standalone game but I never thought I'd actually see it done. Good on them to have the discipline to complete it.

Honestly, I thought it was pretty tough and most bosses took me quite a few tries. I didn't honestly think I sucked at the game, but I've seen a few "oh the game's way too easy" comments so I guess I do. Granted, I never found a weapon so I was stuck with the sword for most of the game.

The Death’s Door character had its assignment involving the taking away the soul of the recently deceased stolen from it? Why am I reminded of Grim Fandango?

Oh man, that skeleton gave me a great idea for a stinger on _The Forgotten City_ Immagine if there was a hidden *loop counter* that, after say, 255 loops, caused a sequence to run where your character starts loop 256, coughs, then falls over and dies of old age! The sting comes when you realize the game NUKED your savefiles while the cutscene was playing!!

Ok I complained about him talking too fast and some people pointed that it's called zero puntuation so it was par of the course. I can talk as if I didn't put a single comma in my sentences and still talk at a normal speed but I get that that's the gimmick of the series. It's not a very international people friendly series but they know what they do with their appeal I've resorted to changing the video speed to 0,85 everytime and it works so I guess that's a work around for anyone else having trouble with this particular problem.

If Yahtzee wants to play a time loop game where you essentially reset mostly everything each loop for added challenge, he can try out House, a nice little indie horror game where you must find a way to stop you and your family from constantly dying in various ways. If he wants to go the visual novel route, then he can play a game where the main character time travels to an alternate timeline with sentient dragons that live with modern day technology called Angels with Scaly Wings. No, I'm not making that up.
