Calling Sean a metal drummer falls short because he’s really a drummer’s drummer just happened to make metal part of his repertoire. He had the capacity and talent for any genre he put his mind to and we all got lucky that this is what he wanted to do. RIP Sean Reinert
We were blessed to have him. Of all the genres he would have excelled in, his contributions to extreme metal drumming are unmatched. The guy was one of a kind.
When you have the skillset and determination to be the best at whatever you approach. Then you can do anything and life as a whole becomes seamless! it just flows and everything you do becomes or at least to the masses seems effortless and easy! I always face the camera at Neil Peart. I mean to many who at the very least appreciated Rush, His playing came across perfect and it's only because he worked tirelessly to achieve that level of ability his practice and attention to detail was beyond most people's comprehension. But that's what it takes if you want to be that good. You have to make sacrifices. Hang out with your bro's or work on that lick, rudiment or whatever until it becomes second nature. Discipline is key, I mean who wants to sweat over a single part of a song for 5hrs or get laid? Those decisions when your young are not tough to make. Then you hit 40 and realize, pussy wasn't worth choosing over being able to play as good as guys like Sean, Neil or whoever gets you stoked at shows ya know. Food for thought that's all...
Exactly. I wish more people would appreciate his playing for what it is. And wish more people would strive to excel at their instrument beyond one genre the way he did.
@@george9822 I bet he did, but his fast double bass was not the most impressive thing he did. Most death metal drummer at the time only played the skank blast beat through the whole song with some linear fills every now and then. Sean had amazing dynamics, never played just one beat for more than 20 seconds, he was like a jazz-prog drummer playing death metal. His drumming was never monotonous, his fills were brilliant, his beats were really creative and he managed to do the same thing the guitar/bass did on drums. His work in Cynic was even harder, much harder, indeed. One really underrated prog/death drummer.
@@dethdezlay7991 Sean admits to listening to mainly Return to forever, mahavishnu orchestra, Allan holdsworth and other music besides death and thrash metal at the time of playing and recording "Human" you can hear the swing influence everywhere. You deaf?!!??!?!
Kirk Korth Yea, I always felt like Sean never got the respect he deserved from non musicians and non Death Metal fans. I’ve been a huge fan of his since he played with Death. Sean was a pioneer. Such a huge loss to the music world . Especially Metal.
@@texasturner2313 I agree with your words, but Chuck was very demanding and experimental. Therefore, I believe that his participation (Sean), resulted in the best album of the band and unique characteristics of sound and feeling, mainly live, in my opinion.
We truly cannot thank enough Sean for bringing jazz fussion drumming into death metal. He was truly a trailblazer. Just watch him play, that's pure Colaiuta, Weckl and Novak style
It's really special watching Sean play these songs. Definitely at the top of his game here. The careful consideration he gives to everything he plays is the sign of a great musician. He makes it look effortless, almost delicate, but he's got hands and feet like sledgehammers. Thanks again for posting these. So much talent.
Awesome drumming. This album really blew me away when I got it. I had been into death metal for several years by that time and had listened to Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary, Entombed etc but no Death for some reason. When I first heard it it was impressive due to its more complex(this could be the first technical death metal album) yet fast song structures. A combination not really explored at the time and the drumming was incredible. I seriously thought it may have been the best I heard from any band at that time and it still is up there today. I also liked the production quality. Chuck seemed to be an interesting fellow in that he was really a nice mellow guy yet had a constant line up change for his band. I think he was an extremely driven artist who knew exactly what he wanted and would do anything to make it happen. He simply would not accept anything less than awesome.
He could take on nearly anyone else when it comes to death metal drumming; but you never hear anything about him. People still think Lombardo is the fastest thing on earth. Don't get me wrong, i love Lombardo, but this guy needs more credit for what he has done and can do.
I love Reinert's drumming, but comparing him to Lombardo doesn't make any sense --their styles are totally different. If anything, compare him to Gene Hoglan for the Death stuff or Danny Carey for the later Cynic stuff. And I'm pretty sure that most metal drummers themselves would disagree about Lombardo being an "average" drummer.
it is a retared comparison, as Kollias could not play Cynic stuff, Sean could not play Nile stuff. Sean is the master when it comes to Cynic style of prog, as for death metal as a guy up said, Hoglan is much better
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Sean set the bar for almost all metal drummers to come. 27 years later and the drums on this album and track are still a masterpiece.
This is the first time returning to this video with a sad mind. Even though this makes me feel good i still feel the world has lost yet another legendary musician who made a huge impact in many. Rest in peace brother. And my condolences goes to Seans husband and family also can't even think of what you're going through ❤️
watched this video years ago for the first time, glad to have this in my recommendations now. never seen such a great drummer, very technical but without forgetting to put his original interpretation while playing. may he rest in peace, he will always be remembered. thank you for everything, sean.
Thank you so much for posting these. I typed in Sein Reinert Death into the search just hoping for maybe a few clips. I had no idea all this amazing footage existed.
