James did a fantastic job. I know Bobby is proud of him. El was overwhelmed with sadness but the brothers all finished the performance in DeBarge style. God bless all of them.🙏🏾❤️
You can see El in the background. He can barely hold himself together. This was his brother's song and it's special to El because he did background vocals with Switch. Bobby brought him out to L.A. and taught El everything he knows about writing and producing. El is just going through the motions on this song.
Niesha McCoy El said Bobby was his mentor. and his brothers, sisters, and mom said El took Bobby's death the hardest. El said when he died he got deeper into drugs also. I really hated that for him.
Queen R Yes, I know Bobby was his mentor and I figured El got deeper into drugs after Bobby died but I was just commenting on how when they sang "I Call Your Name, El couldn't finish and walked off. Even today, singing Bobby's songs is a bit emotional for him but he knows how to deal with it better.
Maybe it's just me but I'm always so amazed at how perceptive you all are it shows that you really care enough to pay close attention and to me that is a beautiful expression of Your Love 🙏🏽💯👍🏽 thank you
I just know now that I can't meet the DeBarge family because I would be in tears! I met Chico years ago before I knew their story. My heart goes out to them and thankful for the gift of song and talent that God placed in them. When they harmonized on "Bobby, we love you"....man!! El's face was so red....bless his heart...he was hurting. It's amazing how similar James and El sound to Bobby. The DeBarge family is amazing! ❤
I LOVE this performance…GOD bless you James…James went for it…yeah it was beyond his reach but he pulled it out like great fighter who is behind on the scorecards. GOD bless these brothers in their struggles with addiction. AGAIN I love watching James go for it in this performance.
@@rufinacaldwell9405 😲 I didn't know that it was that evident as a confirmed truth how that I took my brother Bobby's death the hardest however God has strengthened me and enlightened my perception and I am doing great with that and I really thank you for your comment in fact I thank all of you guys every one of you on behalf of the whole DeBarge family,,God bless you we love you if you only knew how much we love you 🙏🏽👍🏽💯
Yeah I mean when this was done Bobby had been gone just 4 years or so. He and El were super close and you can tell that El was super reluctant to sing this one. I was reading a blog and Mama DeBarge had said that once Bobby had passed on El was never the same. That is probably why he was emotional. El is the only one who could ever do Bobby's parts, but James did a great job tho.
In my opinion, Bobby had the best falsetto, El was next, then James. Chico also has a heck of a voice as well. Truthfully, the whole Debarge family has amazing talent, including their father.
PJWILLIS2011 I understand, and I totally agree with you. I was just speaking on the statement that was told on "Unsung" about him being able to sing as well. Don't get me wrong though, he was a horrible human being, (If that's what you consider a human) that needed his ass kicked. Lol!
You'd be surprised that Randy actually had the next best falsetto after Bobby and El. Listen to him at the beginning of I Like It and his solo on the first DeBarge album Saving Up All My Love. James is great but Randy was more consistent with the falsetto!
Now that's how it's supposed to be. The DeBarge brothers back on stage together. Randy, James, Mark and Eldra DeBarge. Grand Rapids Michigan's "First family!"
El always gets emotional about Bobby! I think that’s what made him lose it. According to El, Bobby taught him to always reach for excellence!! That’s probably why he can still sing the same as he did, (maybe better), back in the day!!!
Sir I have to respond and say thanx for granting us the opportunity to also hear such a truthful and good word about brother Sinbad. And you are absolutely correct thank you for that. Sinbad we Love you!!
He sang lead on several songs across their albums. All of the brothers have amazing voices and can lead, they almost sound identical with El of course having the strongest voice and older brother Bobby had the highest range in the falsetto and the purest.
The Debarge Family... very talented Songwriters and Singers... for the past 50 years (since the 70's)their music has prevailed... it is Timeless and Priceless... It's 2023 and I'm still listening.
😭 when they hit the best part "I do you do birds n bees do to"😥 I felt El. Don't know how old many of yall are but Im old enough to recall the beginning of DeBarge & SWITCH. I was a DJ then
Am I the only one that knows this is more significant if you know the history of James and his brother Bobbys relationship and years later its James paying homage to big bro...this was EPIC ..Forgiveness❤❤❤💪
i wont lie i was on edge trusting James to pull off that tune. he did not sound bad, but he is rushing it out of anxiety, and losing power in spots. El should be singing lead on this.
Amazing! Just wanna say Thank you for All You Die-Hards out there. I swear I had no idea that Debarge still had such a following and Love for this family!.Until this year! I thought I was the only "sucker for the Debarge Love", out there. ( so to speak ") 😊. Reading as much as I can, everyone feeling in the Blanks. I started singing these songs to my son when he was about 11. He's 26 now. He Lovesss Debarge. And with No dought he will be singing these CLASSIC's to his children! One Love❤
So sad. I had NO idea that James could sing like that. Poor El was just hurting too much thinking about Bobby and it being his song. Now Tommy's gone too.
I think everybody is realizing that we were in a golden age of Black music from the 1960s s all the way to the mid-80s and we didn't even know it until looking back now. These are classics that don't age.
I pray they get their act together again. And make a comeback! I watched the movie about Bobby.. and their family has been through a lot. I feel for each one of them.
Seem like Marty was thinking I aint dancing my myself; they better hurry up & get here. Then seems like he was looking at James and wondering whats those moves -we didnt practice like that. But he was killing it. They rocked the house They brought it dówn
A beautiful, multi-gifted, multi-talented, humble & loving family!! May God keep His Hand on them, keep blessing them with strength, giftedness, wisdom, unconditional love, peace, abundance, prosperity, joy, happiness, good health & life longevity!! 💘 ✝ 💃 👗 🎶 🎹 🎼
Oops looks like the brothers messed up a little at the end or el did and he walked off stage..😁❤️ Love those brothers so talented and fine..their dancing made me laugh...RIP Bobby Debarge
*CHIIILE, BASED on THE PURE D* *HELLLL that THEY enDURED* , *THE DeBARGES get A PASS* *FROM US!!!* 💯 *HECK, I just THANK GOD that* *THEY 'are' STILL ALIVE!!!* *MOST of them, THAT IS!* 🚪🚶🏾♀️
So was i crying my brother been dead 10years and 2months he could sing also he never pursued a career cause we had dysfunctional childhood he died age 56
El got emotional and just couldn't finish. El and Bobby were super close and Bobby was his mentor and losing him was hard then and still kind of hard for him today but he can deal with it better.
James did actually really good not to have led this song before. As much as I LOVE El, I am a bit miffed that he walked off the stage like that... Quite surprising. Although I know he was young back then.
The father beat and sexually abused his children, that's why they suffered drug abuse but the family has great singer and god bless Bobby because he paved the way for his siblings.
I like James’s take on this song better than Bobby’s take. James’s voice is a bit deeper. Also, I do not think James was supposed to even sing this song and he killed it!!! ❤🎉😊
