Thank you for your video. I was brought up as a JW and went through years of deconversion. I still can't understand how many hoops we had to jump through to rationalize the horrible parts of the bible, other than indoctrination. Love the accolade for Dan Barker, one of my favorite authors and speakers.

The part I like is when a Christian says " That's the Old Testament, we don't go by that anymore." Then go on to cite the 10 commandants, Noah's flood, how God created everything so on and so forth. As for skirting the issues. If they are not doing that, then they are justifying, excusing and soft pedaling the atrocities God commits or commands carried out and immoralities in the Bible. While at the same time condemning the very same atrocities/immoralities in the holy books of other religions.

“We don’t go by that anymore” is a very poor way of saying what they truly mean. God’s law always damns. His Gospel is what saves. Because of Christ, who makes His appearance in the New Testament, we are no longer under the law of God (Old Testament). Christ, being our Savior, puts us under Gods grace through the gospel. That is why in the Old Testament it seems to be very strict as far as following Gods rule goes. There was no savior to pardon sin, therefore there was no gospel. People were tasked in that time to live perfectly like God, which is impossible. Thanks to Christ, we no longer live under Gods Law and we are saved by Grace through the Gospel given to us by Christ

@@tylermattingly1284, Those are some very, very bold religious claims. The problem with that is until the religious actually prove their Bible, God and Jesus factual with objective demonstrable evidence, they remain nothing more than claims. Prove your demigod Jewish zombie rose from the tomb. "“We don’t go by that anymore” is a very poor way of saying what they truly mean." No, it's their way of cherry picking. After all if they do not go by the OT anymore then the creation story, the flood and such never happened. Christians cannot sit back and have it both ways. Saying the Bible is the word of God then ignore the OT and only go by the NT.

@@samuelschick8813I don’t think you truly understand the Bible if you believe that since we “no longer go by the OT”, that means we don’t believe in creation, the flood, etc. That’s not the claim I’m making here. Being under Gods law vs being in His grace is different from whether an event happened or not

@@tylermattingly1284, Like I said you cannot have it both ways as you are trying to do. Saying don't go by the OT then at the same time believing the creation and flood story. But once again prove your religious claims factual with objective demonstrable evidence. You are asserting God and the Bible are real so prove it. After all EVERY religion has a god and a creation story so prove yours is true.

@@tylermattingly1284, "Being under Gods law" God's law commands you to stone your children to death if they disobey you. When was the last time you obeyed that law?

God’s just. All His actions are just. What part of that is hard to understand?

The part that unnecessarily drowns millions of innocent children and animals in the Flood. The part that severely tortures non-believers in Hell, forever. I don’t see that as just at all. You understand that as just? Please explain it to me. Justice, to me, is everyone getting what they deserve, not people being tortured forever. Are the 6 million Jews who died in WW II, as Jews, not Christians, suffering in Hell right now? Do you care about them at all? The God I believe in is ultimately fair; your Christian God is just plain cruel.
@rubes84

@@2994485 That’s because you are imposing your moral standard on God. God has been trying to make this world a better place from the beginning and we just keep on messing it up because of this little thing called free will. The deaths of WW2 were not the result of God, those were the atrocities of man. You believe what you want to, but the Word is perfectly clear, God doesn’t need us, we need him for salvation. Hell is just that separation that you apparently are looking for.

@@rubes84 I’m not imposing my moral standard on God. I’m following the moral standard of a more credible God, Who does not impose eternal torture on people. Whereas you are following the standards of a barbaric God who tortures people forever. Of course WW2 deaths were the result of human free will; that is completely beside the point! The point is that, according to your beliefs, 6 million Jews, and countless non-believers, are burning in Hell now, and you think that represents love and justice.

@@2994485 You are following the “moral standard of a more credible God,” and where do you get this information? What Holy Scriptures are you reading that have been archeologically proven and substantiated. One must humble himself before God, I do not know the outcome of those souls, but if they confess that Jesus is their Lord and savior maybe they would have been saved. I know my God is just.

@@rubes84God is trying to make the world a better place, right? Why would a god have to “try” to do anything? Couldn’t a god just do the thing? That argument makes no sense.
