I love this man! You talk about a man with a good heart using his gift for gods will. All he does is help people and it brings tears to my eyes. Amazing..

I love you Dave Ramsey!!! You're the man! I listen to you at least once a day. I'm 20 years old, going to college, have never been in debt and I never plan on being in debt. Having paid for college myself up to know, and having my degree next semester, I still listen to your program. The way you say things in the most simple way for anyone to understand is amazing. You comfort people, tell them the truth, really... tell them wtf is up. You guy people back on track and it seems they're truly thankful. Thanks Dave, keep kickin' ass. Debt ass that is. Look forward to calling in one day even just to say hi and thanks :)

One thing Dave does is he senses the internal needs of people while picking them up them at the same time he's giving them advice. Some of these people are broken and need a shoulder to cry on and Dave is it for them. This is one of the things that separate him because he's not out to scam or take more of you money. He makes people feel something they may not have felt in a long time.

Bless her heart! Pay day lenders are nothing more than legalized gambling with your paycheck (in my opinion). I remember going thru this issue over 10 yrs ago with a national bank. It took me what seemed like an eternity to get away from it for good. This was not easy for me at first, as it took a lot of self-control and determination to say "NO" to these loans and re-learn how to budget every single dime, nickel & penny I earned. Thankfully, I had the emotional support of my family and friends (without financially bailing me out). I pray this lady will recover and do well.

Yeah the default option should be to close the accounts, that's what I'm doing I'm going to get a credit card at a $1000 limit for emergencies I'm closing my line of credit and credit card accounts. I'm never getting myself into $15,000 in debt again and I'm never taking out a loan on a vehicle again

@jimpalace4367
@jimpalace4367 6 лет назад
You're both right to a degree. Most high schools aren't teaching personal finance so yes, a lot of people just don't know. However some of this stuff SHOULD be common sense like figure out the interest and how much a payday loan ACTUALLY costs you. Or, How much that flat screen costs you with 14.5% interest making the minimum PMTS. Very few people bother to check this stuff out.
@marquiselogan9832

the problem with common sense is that it is not all that common, ironically
@aeromedical6750

It’s because he found a niche. He developed a common sense, linear approach to getting out of debt and building wealth. There really was not a good instruction guide that the average person could understand before Dave developed the Total Money Make Over. We all it’s common sense, Dave just put it down on paper, and built a program that has demonstrated results. In essence, he built the better mousetrap.

My wife consolidated her student loans before she met me (on advice from her mother). Her interest rate matches the highest interest rate that my student loans have. The difference is that her total at that interest rate is double what mine is at that same rate (I have other student loans at lower rates). I think debt consolidation is a poor choice most of the time.

@mirnapretty8169
@mirnapretty8169 6 лет назад
I don't think so. You run the risk of getting into credit card debt again, if you don't close those accounts. Then you will have the loan plus the credit cards. Dave advices to be paying the small balances first, then tackle the big ones. Good luck!
@insideoutsideupsidedown2218
@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 4 года назад
Baby step 2 will not be as fun. Paying off those cards one at a time will be worth it. Make sure you cut up the cards, then when the accounts are paid off, send in writing to the cc company and close the account. Do it in writing, not over the phone, that way you don have to deal with the shyster that will try to convince you to keep them open, just in case of "an emergency"

I have a question on Debt Consolidation in 2009 I was in a car accident and I got the full settlement which went to medical care and liquated everything I owned and racked up debt to get more care. I was getting close to paying that debt off when 0n 11/2016 I was the victim of a violen assault. Someone hit me in the face with a hard object a few time's. Now I'm in debt again, and getting threatening letters from lawyers. The doctors are sending huge bills like the ER doctor $1200 just for him, $1200 for the anastheologist and I was only out for 23 minutes. I looked these prices up online and if I had insurance it would have been a third of what I'm being sent to collections for. I have tried to talk to all of these people. I have the surgery bills to but I don't know what to do. I already spent a large chunk of my life just paying off medical bills and it's happened again. This had to happen when I was between jobs and didn't have insurance. I want to get out of this without feeling like a slave and working insane hours for years again.

Chris Christopher how are you doing now?
@aeromedical6750
@aeromedical6750 6 лет назад
@Chris Christopher - ask to sit down with the Finance Department for the hospital. Often times, they will negotiate with you to accept what the average Insurance would have allowed for these services. Come armed with your information. They would rather take less (within reason) if that is all you truly have the ability to pay than chase you down for monies they may never be able to collect. You may need to bring an attorney with you and be prepared to openly disclose your finances. The hospitals know that if you are forced into medical bankruptcy, they have very little chance to recover even a fraction of what they are holding you accountable for. I hope you are recovered from your injuries. I can’t imagine going through what you have endured.

When Dave says to “let the credit cards die” like does he mean to simply not pay them back??? Because that will cause lawsuits. The creditors will haul you into court.
@insideoutsideupsidedown2218
@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 4 года назад
MegaSlob depends on how much they are, and you still cant get blood from a turnip. This happens all the time, and they will end up selling them to a debt buyer, who will buy her debt for like a nickel for every dollar owed. She can settle the debt at that time. They will never fully go away, only way is chapter 7, but again, if she doesn't deal with the gambling, it will not matter....

I financed an auto through Wells Fargo a couple of years ago and also have two credit cards one from CapitalOne and the other one from Chase. I was wondering if I could consolidate the entire amounts owed from the two credit cards and add them to the auto loan so I could get a lower interest rate and only have to make one payment a month instead of three separate payments to three different places?

hey Dave I have a question, is there anyway a student loan will take a payoff amount lower then the total balance to be clear? it's a low around around $2200 I pay only 30 bucks a month but it will take 88 months I want to save to just pay it off so I make a payment but I want to pay it all off I can pay it now in full but I don't want to give that much of my savings at once what should I do

Dave's response to you would be to keep 1000 in your savings for your starter emergency fund, and attack the debt with the rest of the balance leftover from your saving until you pay it all off in full. Too many times we like to keep loans around so long we think its a pet.

What does he mean by picking a few credit cards you're going to keep alive, then let the other die? Meaning don't pay them? Won't your credit take a huge hit if you dont pay them and let the balance go up?
@insideoutsideupsidedown2218
@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 4 года назад
She is broke. There is no money to pay them. Your credit score, or your "i love debt score" will take a hit, but when you are at the point of "I'm never going to borrow money again" it is not going to matter. What about a house? She is no where near able to buy a house. In the future when that comes up in baby step 5, she would be saving for a large downpayment anyway. People say all the time it is not possible, and i am here to tell your yes it is. She can settle those credit cards later, he is not saying never take care of your debt, she is at the place where she has to take care of her four walls first, and those debts will just have to whine and cry and get paid later. Read the "Total money makeover" it will go into depth on all of this.

"I don't know if I started gambling because my husband left me or my husband left me because I started gambling..." I am paraphrasing the line" I don't know if I started drinking because my husband left me or my husband left me because I started drinking" Kind of sounds like what she was saying at the beginning of the interview with Ramsey on her gambling problem

Debt consolidation I wouldn’t recommend the debt consolidation companies have deals with these credit card companies yes you get lower rates but you don’t feel the pain of paying off this credit card really learning your mistake plus the fees for membership etc. so your most likely to do it again. But when you feel the pain of the financing mistake you made and you see the cash that you are spending on these dumb credit card companies then you will feel like I don’t ever wana go through this ever again.
