@@dianne8340 yea, but doesn't cover the organ meat, which has essential nutrients in it. She's right about the bones too. The cartilage and marrow are also very nutritious and the bones themselves have calcium.

25 bucks...That would be great if it were true here in Canada...sadly we pay 50 to 60 bucks for a good bag of dog feed, some can cost more.... you can get the cheap chemical corn crap at wallmart for about 20 or 25 bucks... causes dermal issues in many breeds, among other things ...This is great advice ,I will be looking for deals on meat in bigger amounts......best before sales?

I love this! I often make my own dog food with "sale" meat, frozen veggies and rice/lentils/dried peas ... whatever I have. I use the crockpot and they LOVE it. I have never canned but I might have to try this soon. Now to get a canner LOL ...
Looking forward to the video! I am beginning to can again -- and I am rusty!! Love the idea of raw pack! I never knew that! I lost a dog 6 years ago to liver cancer. Since then I have been making my own dog food -- my dogs look amazing. THey NEVER get fat. Processed dog food is dead food. There are so many cheap things you can add to your dog food to fill out the gaps. I buy huge bags of organic rice (Costco/Sams) -- and huge boxes of oatmeal, as well. Meat is the mainstay of course and I look for sales, as you did. There is a discount market here that buys overstock so I will up with various veggies -- cook them and add to the mix. I have so many eggs from my wonderful ducks that the dogs get to enjoy them, as well. Keep up those canning videos!!!! I need a tutorial again!

Instead of using Ball Lids or any other metal lid with the rubber seal around them, you should switch over to Tattler lids, they're reusable lids/rubber rings. I'm switching to the Tattler as soon as we can again. I've not gotten them yet but another lady I know uses them and absolutely loves them. 🌾 Merry meet, merry part & meet again 🌿
I make my own dog food, too, but it's lots of fresh veggies, grains, and legumes plus a little fruit. As soon as they hear me chopping they come running and sit at attention until I fill up the bowls. They eat what I eat sans onions, garlic, and mushrooms. They love it and are super healthy. We hike for miles six days a week, which is pretty remarkable for 4lb yorkies. Coats are so much more shiny and manageable than those of my pets who ate kibble. They don't have dog breath or doggy stink either.
I do the same thing. We raise and hunt all our own meat but i buy chicken for our dogs. One of them works with my husband, Im done with kibble. Its exensive and not good or natural for the dogs.

nice job starry Pasta works well for dog food too instead of rice I picked up a hole trolley full once my mutt loved it (the only thing he wouldn't eat was fried mushrooms, jelly and he was not too fussed on HP sauce but would have a lick of my plate)
I feed rice and boil meat scraps in it for my dogs and cats (all rescues ), a "friend" told me I should never do that. These animals were domesticated by venturing near humans for food scraps. All my animals look good and are healthy.
Well unless starving or wild raw meat is not a primary source of nutrition for dogs or cats. Hence their digestive systems may not may not make best use of raw meat. If you have a link WITH credible fact backed sources I'll look at it. Fact backed sources don't include weird Uncle Buck either.
I buy SALE meat we wouldn't eat ALL the time for my dogs, cook it, can it, serve it up. They love it over dry bagged dog food. p.s. they love the black birds they catch too! and my chickens when they can get to them.
what is your opinion on aquaponics? I love watching you. my husband and I are moving back to Georgia to set up a homestead..at first I wanted a cow, goats, sheep , and such...but I don't want it to be to much...so I am thinking of just some bee's and laying hens and then aquaponics with some fish...I am tired of fighting rodents in my garden and the soil is horrible to grow in. any advice will be great. I was going to go see some of other people's aquaponics farms here in California while I am still here but people want $200-$2000 to come see them...that is just crazy...thanks for any info you can give me...have a blessed day

I have canned some older meat in my freezer before, but I haven't just fed my dog solely this food because I never knew how much of it would be considered a daily serving for 40-45 lb dog. I use it as a backup, but I would definitely like to know if anyone knows how much to feed. I believe you said you use pint jars, I used quart when I did mine. Do you use pint jars bc it equals 1 serving?
Great video.. I enjoy making my dogs food when time is available. Baking them biscuits and putting in veggies with meat. That takes a different way to have to pack, I like this method also since its already packed :D I will have to go out and buy some canning jars to try for my pets and for myself too :D

Saving money is always a good thing. Just wondering if 75 minutes will fully cook the chicken in the jars or will you have to cook it more before serving to the dogs.
Starry iv been a Lpn for 35 years working in a state school with special need children, in a setting with G-Tubes, trachs bad seizures lots of medical issues ect....do to the nursing shortage my shifts were 16 hours, I didn't have much of a life. but I have always wanted to can my meat and dry beans I love your videos and yesterday I bought me a presto 16 quart canner, then all of a sudden all these videos on botulism now im afraid to can anything can you give me any advice.
Dont feed into the hype...I think store bought canned foods is more dangerous then anything you will ever ever can. If you do ny research botulism is killed by high heat (i.e PRESSURE canning)..if it didnt work Even our storea bought food would be rendered unsafe. So rule of thumb just remember Low-acid foodsLow-acid foods such as most vegetables, meats and seafood must be canned at a higher temperature using a pressure canner.

Don′t waste good meat for dog food. Go to a slaughterhouse near you and ask them for meat for dog food. They will give you innards like heart, liver and so on for very cheap, even cheaper than this. If you buy other meat the might give it to you for free. The funny thing is, that the nutritional value of innards are even better that muscle meat, but that's another story.
I had just started making my own dog food . One of our guy's had a crusty rash when we rescued him . Many Vet visits and $ and still the rash . After taking him off canned food and making my own food of Basmanti rice, Chicken or lean beef and veggies the rash is gone ! Starry have you ever canned the dog food with a little rice and maybe barley ? I haven't and wondering how it would turn out . Thinking for we two legged people the rice would be too gummy to eat but our four legged children might be okay ? What do you think ? Thanks for your Video's I really enjoy them . In your next posted video, you are discussing the smell of the Bell jars. Is it possible that the new types of lids are the problem, as opposed to it being the jars? God bless you, Starry. How do you sterilize your wooden countertop after cutting meat on it?? (I know, you have probably been asked that 100's of times lol) I guess I should read the comments ehh? I buy horizon legacy grain free dry(I soak it in water before feeding) and it is a whopping 69.00 for 30lbs! It lasts over two months, but still! I really want to learn how to make totally RAW grain free dog food - with bones and all. Freezing it for a month at a time. Thanks for showing me this cooked method though because if the grid ever goes down at least I will have some backup canned dog food. I have never canned before. I agree with your premise but I totally disagree with you’re application. I would stay away from rice, grains and other fillers. Not just because there useless filler food but because of its the biological value being less then 40% (i.e. what the absorption rate is). There is an actual equation for ensuring that your dog gets the RDA that they need. I feed my dog off what I raise but it tailored based up her requirments. This why a lot of people run into problems because they are literally just winging it. Understanding what your dog needs and how to get those RDA’s based upon known data regarding absorption rate and nutrient density is everything. For example 6 grams of protein from a chicken egg is not absorbed the same as 6 grams of protein from beef. So knowing what these biological values are is very important. The equations and the science is out there. Based upon the application I’m seeing I would rather feed my dog a quality dry food then a fly by the seat of my pants table scrap diet.

Lol..Josh, some of the bags weigh 8Kg (16 pounds) some weigh 14 Kg or 15 Kg or 18 Kg (30 to 40 pounds) We have a small kennel & train service dogs for our soldiers who are returning with PTSD. Since we provide the dogs for free, we are always looking for ways to trim our budget.
S.R. Hurst cheap is not always good, I don't feed my dogs Kibbles and bits anymore because it started to make them vomit. Ever since then I've been paying 30 to 40 or even $60 per bag of dog food and they've been fine
That is a great idea. Does the meat cook in 75 minutes? I would also love to know how you use your raw pack meat. Seems like a good idea even if I'm not off grid.
we eat alot of wraps, where u take a floured tortilia and just but whatever u like on it, fresh garden veggies sprinkle some canned chicken or other game meat in it heat up in a fry pan and whoala....instant easy dinner! be creative. the nice thing about the canned meat is no unthawing, planning, prep, just go in the pantry and grab a jar and and its ready to go. and yes 75 min pressured cooked cooks the meat....and tenderizes it. never have to worry about freezer burn also!
Love that! I don't have a pressure canner but I may have to get one. I just got an Insta Pot that is a newer version of the old pressure cooker I'll have to see if it will work but what a great, easy idea. Thank you so much.
What is your altitude? I am to go with 15 lbs. pressure, but the meat is tough and my potatoes were over cooked. Seemed like it took a long time to reach pressure. Any ideas?

Works the same for cats..start slow with mixing the cat food with a ittle grain (good grain for carb) and veggies and fruit and nuts...grains it very fine ..then add a little meat or fish
