I asked for Dave’s advise but to me it didn’t make sense. I can get a VA loan and buy a house with payments of $800 a month with zero down. Currently I pay $1550 a month in rent. His advisor said Dave is not a fan of VA loans so to buy a house I need 20% down on a 15 year mortgage. So it’s better to stay paying $1550 a month for quite a while or forever than to pay $800 a month for 30 years and gain equity in a house. I can also pay more than $800 a month and get the house paid off faster. I’m not following Dave’s advise on this issue.

@Tiff-vi9kx

For some people that’s worth the expense because it’s included in the payment schedule. Also, they negotiate much better deals than you could ever do yourself. For example some companies require you to put a deposit of hundreds, and then pay hundreds. Versus the legit companies can negotiate a much smaller monthly payment and you can keep more of your income every month to focus on rebuilding your credit and savings.

Can we get a little more information fromt the callers when they have 90k in revolving debt? Was it temporary job loss? Did they consolidate other fixed debt into revolving debt? Did they impulse buy? or living costs? Living beyond means and above income? I think everyone who watches these types of shows are curious as to how the problem accumulated over time, not just the methods and approaches to killing the debt. You know what's even better than knowing how to become debt free? -- Knowing and teaching others how not to become debt burdened in the first place.

I suppose it would be better to say: Don’t spend someone else’s money, ever.
@markyouneva7840
@markyouneva7840 4 года назад
@@jeremiahmeade710 Our entire economy from the 19th century to present day has been based on "spending other peoples (investor) money." We have a capitalist society (capital!). If borrowing money wasn't a thing, we'd be lightyears behind where we are today. People borrow to invest in business, in research, or to invest in themselves by getting an education. To wait to save the vast amount of capital needed to finance ertain things would be impractical. All debt is not equal. Paying for something with some else's money which they get interest on isn't always bad. Financial trouble arises from spending other people's money on unnecessary things, things of depreciating value, and material things that add no real value to one's life. Compounding the problem would be poorly managing one's credit and having to financing this lifestyle at very high interest rates, which is the case for many of the callers. They buy things they dont need at high payments (and corresponding high APR's). "Don't spend money you don't have and don't spend someone else's money" are overly simplistic. If you've never borrowed a dime in your life, that's great for you but life for most people doesn't work that way.

Although debt settlement can be an effective method for tackling overwhelming debt, it's important to recognize that it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Each individual's or business's financial situation is unique. Therefore, it is essential to seek advice from financial professionals before deciding on debt settlement. I signed up for one of these debt settlement companies because I thought it was the fastest way to get out of debt. I was wrong, my credit stinks, and I probably could have saved money just by paying off the debt myself. Lucky for me, the debt relief company I am working with has actually settled the debts I brought into the program - and I do think my credit can be rebuilt. But, ugh, never ever ever again.

*Can someone answer a question for me?* I have some medical debt. I get calls from a debt collector, but they say they work on behalf of the hosptial, to help them collect debt. Does this mean the debt was not sold to a 3rd party company for 5 cents on the dollar like credit card debt for example? This company has had the debt for maybe a year. Still when I offer them lump sums, even 50 cents on the dollar, they say the hospital hasn't approved the account for any discounts. How does this work? I can't settle with these people!

She pays the company close to 400 per month and recently after 3 months on the program she has been told that on top of the 400 she pays to the credit company she has to pay the minimum payment that is due on some of the accounts. How are debt relief company's scammers? All they really are essentially are people who negotiate your debt settlements for you. That's it. They are for people who are going to go behind on their payments anyway because they were morons with their finances in the first place. Instead of negotiating yourself, you hire a debt relief company. It's a service. If you want to try to negotiate with all of them yourself, go for it. With a debt relief company, you are hiring experienced professionals who will get you the best settlement possible, if you go with a top-rated company in the US.

Settling 90k with 25 k in cash (as Ramsey says that is realistic): _The phone calls may be a pain in the butt HOWEVER, but the time needed for it is really, really well._ He is making at least 60 - 65 k with these phone calls, if he is able to get rid of his debt within a year. Which amounts to a very highly paid job. - With his side hustle as mechanic he makes 48 k per year and 70 k (likely before taxes) with delivering pizza. I'd say he reduce the pizza delivery service to have time for the phone calls during day, he gets a bit more of the side hustles. Next year he can invest into becoming a better mechanic (training if need be) and then bringing in the big bucks.

At the same time, Debt Settlement is a real industry that also works for many. I agree, there are bad companies out there that misrepresent, do not disclose enough and take advantage of people. There are also good companies that do a good job and stay within compliance. Legitimate debt settlement programs benefit both consumers and creditors by offering an ethical and honorable alternative to bankruptcy.
