Here is one that blindsided me when I tried debt settlement. A lot of times, creditors will accept a settlement offer, but then pull a little end around play and then file a lawsuit for what they didn't get in the settlement. For instance, say a creditor takes a settlement of $5,000 for a $9,500 debt. Then, later they sue you for the other $4,500. That's what happened to me
@AscendFinance
@AscendFinance 6 месяцев назад
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that happened to you! What settlement company did you sign up with?
@tylermcnally9931

Almost signed up with Credit Associates after having a call and realizing I could potentially save $8000 while making a much smaller monthly payment. They didn't say anything about the likelihood of a lawsuit!! That is a hard pass for me. I'll continue to try and make the payments on my own.

Hey Tyler, thanks for sharing your experience. Debt relief can be helpful, but it's may be quite beneficial to go into it with eyes wide open about the cons, for sure! Question, have you looked at non-profit credit counseling? It sounds like the debt is current? I should’ve seen ur vid before I signed into debt relief. I’m getting sued by 3 companies, program gets 25% which I found out later, plus 2 creditors didn’t want to negotiate and program wanted me raise my monthly payments from $851 to $1,711. I said I couldn’t afford that so they took the 2 creditors out and told me to call them and negotiate myself. It’s the worse. Oh and one more thing I didn’t miss a payment in 10 years, but I was only paying minimum payments. My credit score was over 700 but now sense they told me to stop payments my credit is at 540
@AscendFinance
@AscendFinance Год назад
Oh my goodness, I am so so sorry. So, let me get this straight 1) They didn't go through lawsuit likelihood so now you face 3 lawsuits. 2) They are charging 25% enrolled debt (higher end of fee range) 3) They are asking for DOUBLE the escrow payment per month 4) Credit score drops 700 to 540. Goodness, that's really unfortunate, and I am sorry. Would it be helpful to go through options now that you have had this happen and maybe goals of what you are wanting to accomplish? If so, please feel free to book time on my calendar directly - calendly.com/ben-tejes-ascend/free-chat?month=2023-06 - I should have time today or tomorrow. Sorry again, and maybe chat soon - Ben

When you pay off the debt early, you don't have the stress of it anymore and can start rebuilding your credit sooner. It's totally up to what you want to do. As long as you make your payments for both, it wouldn't hurt to pay off one of them sooner.

Hey, thanks so much for the question. This is a longer answer to your question, so I hope it’s okay. My family had quite a bit of debt growing up and it was so stressful on their relationship. After working at various companies, my friend and I decided to start Ascend to help people (like family) understand all their options when facing a financial hardship. It just felt like there were so many predators in the space trying to take advantage of people. So what’s in it for ascend? One is just posts like these that are so encouraging. Second as a business we built these debt relief calculators that provide folks with an understanding of all their options and the costs and such. We wanted to provide these completely free so you don’t even have to provide an email, but if someone wants a recommendation for a service such as debt management or settlement or bankruptcy, we try to partner with the highest rated providers and then they pay us for the referral. It allows us to be unbiased but also still function as a business (meaning I can create unbiased content)! Hope that’s helpful. Long answer, but you deserve the full answer!

Honestly, at 75, I could care less....unless you have massive real estate holdings (I don't). With that said, you sound like a very responsible person. In your situation, I would strongly suggest you engage in debt relief and take a hit on your credit score, and of course, negotiate a small monthly payment by settling the debt owed on each card or loan. This will save you thousands in interest. If all else fails file a chapter 7 bankruptcy and owe absolutely nothing (0). Moreover, You will recover in 6 to 18 months. In fact, You can qualify and get smaller credit card lines from small credit card companies. I promise this will work! Good luck.

How do I trust these negotiations? Can they drag out negotiations to get more money over time? What guarantees do I have that they will settle quickly?
@AscendFinance
@AscendFinance Год назад
Hey Nubian, many debt settlement companies only get their fees once they settle an account. That said, 2 potential concerns to look out for: 1) Did you sign up with a debt relief law firm that gets fees before settlement and what does that contract say? 2) Are they settling a $5000 debt then paying the creditor $20 and taking their entire fees? Do these questions make sense? As I'd like to be more accessible to my RU-vid viewers, I am now having free quick chats. So, if helpful, would you book something on my calendar: calendly.com/ben-tejes-ascend/free-chat? Thanks - Ben

@AscendFinance
@AscendFinance 10 месяцев назад
Doing Debt Settlement typically has a negative impact to your credit score from going behind on your payments. It requires you to go behind on your payments for 4-6months. If you are already behind on your payments you may be able to settle the debts immediately and start paying them down. Each person's situation is different as it depends how much of your debt you're enrolling what else is on your credit report etc. If you're interested to chatting with a vetted firm I can connect you to one so you can ask them specifically about what it may look like for your situation bit.ly/3Xqcl1a

So I've heard that even if pay off the debt after the negotiation. If the money owed is paid to a third party and you ask them to take the debt off your credit repoert they will tell you to contact your original creditor. Then when you talk to the original creditor they will say they can't do anything because they've already sold the debt. Is that true?
@AscendFinance
@AscendFinance 4 месяца назад
That may be true, but it still would come down to the company that bought the debt. It can be difficult to get it removed from your report because it will show "settled" on your report and delinquency for up to 7 years, but it may be possible with a lot of persistence if you ask for a pay-per-delete. It can be harder to do with the collection agencies.

That said, you don’t need to take the calculator and can just call us at 833-272-3631 and we can chat through options.

You can definitely try! However, it is up to the creditor.

Debt relief programs definitely can impact your credit score. Did someone mention that it wouldn't impact your credit score? There may be some unique circumstances where it may not, but most times it does.

3:38 I know it is a little late for a question, but if you owe money on a car and it gets repossessed, or you give it back to the bank do you still have to pay back the rest of the money. In my case, I owe about $8,000 left on my car loan, but my car is only worth $4,000, leaving $4000 of debt to pay. Would it still be considered "secured debt"?
@AscendFinance
@AscendFinance 9 месяцев назад
I believe that would be considered unsecured debt once the car is repossessed. Could you give me a call at 833-272-3631 if you'd like to chat about option to tackle that debt? Thanks-Ben

Any idea which route I should go? I’m a retired vet on a fixed income with 2 loans @ $10k each, plus a maxed out credit card for $20k all thanks to my ex wife🤦🏼‍♂️ We both occurred the debt but it was all in my name so I got stuck with it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated to help get me out of this $40k hole. Thanks

Hello Ben. I'm interested in a Debt Relief Loan where I just get a lower rate than the 26% BS the companies charge and the rate keeps moving which completely BS. I just want to pay it down with a reasonable rate and be done with it. I have about 20 K credit card debt and intend to Never use them again unless some drastic event. I have a 688 credit score and make very good money still but in the current Horrible economy it doesn't go nearly as far as it should. I will call.

Hey Shawn, I'm sorry about your experience. So are you in a debt relief program, and the program is now pitching a 26% graduation loan where they get all their fees, the origination fee of the loan and the super high interest rate? Or what are you experience?

Ohh okay! Be sure to do a lot of research because firm fees range from 15-25% of the overall amount of debt enrolled, generally. Make sure to look at reviews, cancellation policy, and many other factors. If you want to connect with a firm we would refer you to, give us a call at 833-272-3631.
