To paraphrase Tony in a previous episode, no one who watched during the Attitude Era watched any other wrestling before or after. I would bet that 99% of people watching Nitro at this time had no fucking clue who the Grand Wizard was.
This episode of Nitro is popping up everywhere, Wrestling Bios just covered it on his Reliving The War series last week... it's gotta be my favorite Nitro ever, from Bam Bam being counted out of existence to Kimberly running in fear from the guy she tried to kill the week before, to Dustin telling us that he sucks, Seven sucks and this show sucks too... the entire thing feels like a drug trip during a fever dream, it's peak WCW awfulness and i love it lol WRest In Peace Sid, he may have only had "half the brain" of Kevin Nash but he was 10 times the pro wrestler Nash was... Rest easy Big Man
Man I miss you guys haha. glad to see you're still bippin and boppin. much love. also don't forget in 99 Jim Carey had Man on the Moon, the Andy Kaufman bio pic!
You know what would have saved this show? At the end of Dustin Runnells/Rhodes/Goldust/Seven's promo: "...Goldust sucked. This whole gimmick sucks, and WCW sucks! I quit!" He drops the mic, starts to walk out the ring, then stops, comes back into the ring, picks up the mic and says.... "Or maybe I don't, brother!"
I think this episode is the week before the "half a brain" promo. Reliving the War just showed the "half a brain" on Thursday, and showed this episode with the taped "I quit" last week.
Lost in the Nitro Girls segment is that Spice's concerned tone while defending the Nitro Girls was as if AC Jazz just accused them of murdering children and eating them.
You'd think they would just drop the kid from the gimmick, but I guess Turner wanted it completely gone. Shame too, because Seven vs Sting would have been a cool feud.
Kevin Nash by all accounts seems like a pretty normal and progressive guy but has anyone ever asked him why he chose to specifically cosplay as "the grand wizard" and popularized a hand gesture used by the turkish far right?
Wouldn't surprised me if Nash has some sus views. One of the main reason why wrestling is so interesting is because its so weirdly honest. Unlike actors/actresses, wrestlers can't really fully hide who they are if you dig deep enough, despite the PR washing. Like AJ Styles definitely voted for MTG. She is so AJ-coded lol.
the debut of seven was terrible it should've lasted seven seconds I'll see myself out lol this podcast is Absolutely hilarious torrie wilson was awesome in WCW how is 1999 25-years ago time flies.
