The best bread pudding I ever had was when my (tipsy) aunt decided to make some last-minute and didn’t have everything she needed. Instead of cream, she used coffee creamer and just dumped everything except the bread together in a bowl, threw in some spices and brandy, and whisked it up before dumping it over the bread and baking it in a crock pot. I can’t tell you how amazing it was!!! She’s never been able to re-create it.
Hahaha I should! I’ve never made bread pudding myself, but it’s simple enough that I should try. Honestly I wonder if she dumped in some of her bourbon as well and we just forgot. LOL!
Okay, I don’t exactly know why, but John is my go-to RU-vid cook. I think it is his humility and expressive and effervescent love of cooking - every recipe he teaches us is his “very very favorite”, and “sooooooo good!” He shows us his Oopsies, and how to fix them. I love his transparency and stories of whom he is cooking for, and past experiences with the dish. I also love that he is a former Math and Science teacher for middle schoolers. Oh how I wish I had him as my teacher during those tortuous years!
@@noraniali2093 i tried it, it is taste good. I add mix fruit also. I think you can skip the brandy, just use vanilla or i prefer use cocoa butter so it will smell like chocolate but it doesn't have a taste of chocolate.
Every year after Christmas, I snag the reduced Panettone bread from the local market. It makes THE best bread pudding! Great recipe, thank you for sharing. :)
This is great to know cause I was just thinking about how Panettone bread would be a great choice since it’s already dry, I just wasn’t sure if you’d have to reduce the sugar a little in the recipe since it’s already a sweetened bread but this sounds delicious.
I hosted an expat Thanksgiving and someone brought a Panettone. I had so many desserts that we did not eat it. I found it still wrapped up in my pantry and made the best bread pudding!
@@pla5730 Yes, you can also use leftover sweet buns or croissants, if you have an Aldi near by, try there for Brioche at a more affordable price. I'm in Australia and it's $$$ less than other supermarkets or specialty bread shops.
Dear John, I made this bread pudding ( with a good Brandy ) yesterday and instantly fell in love with this recipe! This is the symbol of the absolute comfy cozy dessert to me !! Like.....a feeling of being home, wrapped in a fluffy blanket and feeling hugged. Your channel is unbelieveably inspiring! Et ta cuisine est vraiment très adorable! Thank you for your effort to produce so interesting and funny videos!
There’s no way he eats it all lol I was watching something about Giada de Laurentis and that’s what they said about her show. Almost everything ends up in the trash 🥺
I like your pot and pans. It showed your favorite are copper. So neat and nice good looking kitchen wares. Even your plates looks so dainty and very classic vintage designs. I envy your kitchen so very much. I knew that you are a very organized, so very neat person and also have a good humored personality. Thank you for all the tips and tricks. God bless you.
Most supermarkets (and bakeries) have a "day-old" shelf or stand on which they lay out the older bread that is still saleable. In my grandmother's day, the heels of loaves of bread, the crusts from the children's sandwiches, and a few slices were all cubed and put in the bread box to keep until there was enough to make a bread pudding. To this day bread pudding is my favorite dessert, followed closely by authentic English fruitcake (not the crappy stuff you can buy commercially; our recipe is about 500 years old, passed from oldest daughter to oldest daughter), and plum pudding with hard sauce.
Dude, you're killing me!!! That looks delicious and I'm not even a bread pudding fan. I'm going to make it this weekend. I'm betting the wife and kids will love it!
I just made your french toast bake; added one granny smith apple and a handful of dried cranberries, DELICIOUS!!! Now, I'm here to make this bread pudding. Thank you for sharing!!!
Just made this recipe with Erythritol (trying to cut down calories and sugar), added some cinnamon to the "white sauce" that turned golden and I can already tell you, my kitchen smells amazing! I really like this recipe, first time making it ☺️💕 Thanks!
I just received your book! It’s beautiful! My sister gift it to me she knows how much I love your recipes so she bought the book for me. Once again it’s beautiful!
Thank you so much for this recipe! On vacation a while back, my family and I stumbled upon a unique and delicious bread pudding at a restaurant. We immediately fell in love as it just tasted amazing, and me being a cheapskate (a slice of bread pudding costed like 15 dollars!!!!!) and someone who likes to cook, I wanted to remake it for my grandpa's birthday! Using this recipe was an amazing choice as the finished result was exactly the same from the one we had on vacation, if not better!
Bread pudding and custards in general are my favorite deserts. This looks amazingly delicious! I have some dry croissants that I’m going to use with cranberries and walnuts this afternoon. Love your videos!
Mom used to make this when I was a kid, I've been looking for a good receipe for a long time. This is awesome, just came out of the oven and yum. Big thumbs up!
You are so blessed, I am so happy your in our life , you explain so well and make me chuckle all the time , with your jokes and I alway rember not to do what you say not to because your so blessed in teaching ty God is so pleased with you my wonderful teacher still learning even though I am a grandma . Love your spirt of love you give to your family and all of us . With to meet and greet if you ever come to Canada one day. 🙏❤️🙏
I just made this for a potluck and it was delicious! Everyone loved it. It wasn’t overly sweet and it was really tasty and easy to make. This was my first time making bread pudding so I’m glad I tried this recipe. Thank you for sharing it!
The love you show towards the food you make goes into your food and your loved ones receive that love. You inspire me bake even more than I do already. Bread pudding is one of my all time favorites and yours looks amazing. I'm making it this afternoon.
Just made this for Christmas Eve and Christmas (the Christmas one soaked overnight) and it was great! Everyone liked it! I tried to follow the recipe exactly (toasted some french bread from Walmart) and had set out all the ingredients but my daughter saw the flour on the counter for the custard topping and threw it in the pot that I used to soaked the bread. Still good. I ended up not having enough liquid to soak the bread and I splashed some 2% milk on top to submerge and t'was great! Really nice smooth texture. Not too sweet and can be adjusted by adding more custard. Warm or cold. I want to try again without having to cook the soaking mixture and see how it changes. Great recipe!
Virgo feelings!!! OMG.... I shared this line with my husband and he had the grace to blush. He alphabetizes my spices if I don’t keep an eye on him. Thanks so much for your recipes. They rock,!
Amazing!! I have never liked bread pudding but decided to try your recipe. I did a couple of changes on the sauce and used drunken raisins and peaches. It was outstanding. I'm loving it! Thanks!!
My grandmother used to make a version of this sauce for plain white sheet cake. One of the best simple flavored deserts for after a big meal. I have the recipe now.
I adore bread pudding, and I order it whenever I see it on the menu, if it’s made in-house, of course. This looks fabulous, and I’m definitely going to try this, especially since it doesn’t have raisins in it!
Loved it. Made it for the old man for Father's day. It reminded us of our summers vacationing in Barbados. Closest thing we've had to the resort bread pudding.
@@lalique241 I'm from Trini but am in Bim every year even back when I used to play in Gary Sobers international. This is the closest thing to the Turtle beach bread pudding I used to have. So you substitute the milk for cream? Or do half and half type mixture? I'll definitely try it out.
I made this. It’s so wonderful. Me and my son do a recipe from John about once a week. I share with everyone and i tell them about preppy kitchen. I always tell my son let’s make something John makes. He really likes it when we do it correct. We are not kitchen friendly , but when we listen to John it comes out great. My son always say whisk, whisk, whisk. I don’t think he realizes he is saying what John says. Lol!!
I followed your recipe the best I could. I had a limited amount of ingredients due to being quarantined, but the basics were there. My bread pudding turned out pretty good. I am proud of myself. Never made bread pudding before. Thanks !
OMG! I haven't had bread pudding for years. My grandmother used to make it. Soooo delicious! I'm going to make this for my kids. 😁 Thanks for sharing, it's definately an old favourite and yes she used to add raisins. 😉❤
In the UK this is bread and butter pudding. Bread pudding is made from stale bread, all the crusts etc saved till you have enough. Bread soaked in boiling water then once cool squeezed. Then cream butter /margarine and sugar, amounts depend on amount of bread. Add eggs, number depends on amount of bread. Add squeezed bread. Sultanas or raisins, mixed candied peel if you have it. Currants if you want. Mixed spice i use at least 2 heaped teaspoons, more if its a bit old and lising flavour. Put mixture in large tin, we used roasting tins, in moderate oven till cooked. It should be about 2 to 3 inches deep. We were a large family and had home made wholemeal bread crusts and mum always used brown sugar. UK bread pudding is delicious. Moist and spicey. Bread and butter pudding is ok if you want something quick and dont have enough bread for a bread pudding.
I tried this recipe today and it was great! 👌😋 the white sauce helps to control the sweetness of the bread pudding. Thank you for your amazing recipes.♥️♥️
I absolutely love bread pudding I used to work at World of Beer and they discontinued their bread pudding which was my favorite but I’m definitely going to make this tomorrow can’t wait 😊
Made this today for my bf because he loves bread pudding. And this recipe is just pefect. Definitely satisfied our cravings! Brioche for pudding is perfect. ✨
I've made bread pudding for most of my long life. Sometimes with a recipe sometime just dumping things in, never had one come out bad! A very forgiving dish. My way most favorably received included sausage, onions and jalapeños. Sweet ones are great also.
This was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! It was so easy and quick to make. It wasn't too sweet and it tasted like a fancy dessert from a high-end restaurant. This is my favorite recipe for bread pudding and I highly recommend for anyone to try it!!!
SUCCESS! I used Crown Royal Peach for the sauce on most of it, my mom loved it. I only used Mexican vanilla extract for my section. LOL Thanks for sharing! I’m getting ready to make a pie crust using your recipe for your lemon meringue pie recipe. Long night ahead.
Bread pudding is one of my favorite desserts. Coconut pecan, warm with coconut sauce....oh my gosh, to die for! I have a challah loaf....going to give yours a try! TFS!
Looks good. This will be my first time making it I will be using a loaf of cinnamon brioche bread along with raisin bread with extra raisins. Thinks for showing how quickly harden up the bread by quick toasting on low oven. Looks really good. Brioche is a nice rich flavorful bread that’s why I chose it
I love your beautiful new kitchen and all your beautiful copper kitchen supplies and your beautiful plates and china. It makes me want to put on my prettiest party dress and come over for dessert and cocktails. ❤
Oh my goodness it's been a year but I hope you see this. Followed along. And I must say this recipe is a little bit of heaven on earth. I did have some heavy cream to use up so I played a bit had an extra egg to use the rest of the carton but yum. Thank you!!!
My Mom (now 85) used to make this all the time when I was a kid. I loved it. That said, I probably haven't had bread pudding in about 40 years. Good times.
Just stumbled across this video when looking for Bread Pudding. I am definitely going to make it as my first ever (at 64 yrs old !) I also just want to say thank you for the way you explained what and WHY you were doing things and the extra suggestions to add pecans etc I also love all of your copper everything...so beautiful. I love copper. I will let you know how my bread pudding turns out and I'm SURE you M-I-L? loved it. Much love from 🇨🇦 and Happy 2024 ❤
So I actually tried this recipe. I was trying to make my New Year's resolution last longer. buuut OMG!!!!!!!! It is soo good especially the sauce on top *chef's kiss*. I guess it's back to trying different recipes
Ngl, I was looking for a bread pudding because I just came home from a long flight from vacation and we had bread pudding for breakfast in the plane and I was so over the moon, it was so yummy
Hello John, Thank you so much for your recipes, I have tried many of them, and all turned great to the point! excellent. I tried today the Bread Pudding with the sauce and it was an awesome experience delicious beyond words! Your recipes are an inspiring teacher!
Bread pudding is my weakness! And that brioche looked dreamy 😍 never had this with a sauce on top of the custard, thanks for always teaching me something even when I think I know a recipe!
A decadent, beautiful dessert - artistic and with depth - so perfect for your marvelous stunning copper "bejeweled" kichen. In the stove burners the caps look like gold. Thank you for this wonderful recipe and for a glimpse of "the Kitchen from Versailles!" Enjoy it as you well deserve it all.
Hi John... I love this recipe and it's almost identical to mine. However, my distinct preference over brandy in the sauce is Myer's Plantation Rum, a very dark rum with an unmistakable "buttery rummy" taste. Thanks for all your recipes and your shared techniques, may of which I have made.
Oh you spoil us with such delectable deserts. How do you not gain weight, if I may ask. I just love how natural & off-script you are in your vids. Just one human sharing with other humans, without any fanfare, just pure naturalness. Thank you. But one of my Winter desert favs is creamy baked rice pudding. Do you have a recipe for it? I would be so happy to try it. I've tried a few others, but they always seem to lack the dept of flavor & creaminess. I'm currently bogged down with Mr, Winter in -11Cel. & it's snowing yet again. I swear it has snowed every day so far in Jan. & I live in the Okanagan Valley (Wine country). Is this Climate Warming,......I think not. Yuck!
I'm SO excited to share that I made this yesterday for Christmas!!! I've been watching Preppy Kitchen videos for at least a year or two, and this is my first time getting around to making a recipe of yours. That sauce was AHHHHmazing! For a little extra holiday pizzazz, I added a touch of cinnamon to it. So decadent and delicious. I have watched cooking/baking shows ever since I was a little girl. We didn't have cable growing up, but we did get a handful of channels with an antenna (those amazing rabbit ear ones -- wow, feeling really old right about now). We happened to always have TV time when "The Frugal Gourmet" was on PBS. It's really surprising that no one in my family became a chef/baker! Despite all of those hours watching cooking/baking content, you still seem to teach me new tricks. I have yet to try your cake pan strips, but it's always in the back of my mind for when I finally make a cake. Also, you were the one who taught me the importance of an oven thermometer and also how to bake more evenly. Thanks for always being a smiling and cheerful face, sometimes when I needed it most. I hope you, Brian, and your kiddos had a wonderful Christmas and wish you all the best in 2022!!! ✨
