5/10/2016 1:36 PM CDT Edited video, 32 minutes 20 seconds. Dad bring a big fish and Mom is right behind him. She starts to teakettle. Dad leaves and Mom starts to feed the eaglets, 1and 2 ate a lot .DNN 3 got a few bites.
"Hey Mom, I'm still hungry and there's some fish left. Thanks for those three pieces, but I'd really like to fill my crop if it's not too much trouble. I promise it won't take much fish. Mom? Mom?"
It seemed, and I watched all of these last year for a study, that the adult female favored #1 (the massive female here) and overfed it. It hardly fed #3, the other adult seemed to feed it more. #2 was too busy avoiding the crazy #1 to care who gave it food. It would grab and fly trying to avoid #1s attacks on him. #3 was too small and too weak to avoid #1.

I understand survival of the fittest but #1 is an evil pig. And could someone please explain what the point of #3s life was exactly? To be a punching bag who experienced nothing but hunger and terror inflicted by parents and sibling?
You’re right about #1 being an evil pig. He’s almost the size of a piglet a few weeks after being born. I don’t understand the size difference of these chicks. Mom seems to lack the knowledge that she needs to feed the little one more than the other two with their crops distended and full already. Yet up to the end they’re still wanting more food as the little one seems to be asking “what about me”. Yet mom seems to want to feed #1 even more as she looks to be following #1 to feed him more. You would think the little one was born weeks after the other two. Bald Eagles usually take care of all of their chicks and all usually fledge but, I don’t know how the little one will do against the other two mistreating him/her. I hope he learns to give back as good as he gets and has a better chance to survive. I’ve seen other nests where siblings actually kill the smaller ones. I hope that doesn’t happen here. I sure feel sorry for the little one and hope he gets through it. Mom needs to stop eating so much herself and concentrate on the job before her like feeding the chicks.
Not the tiny one's fault it hatched later than the hog sibling. He can barely walk,but waddled stumbled to be close to the food,still no food.Does he not know to be insistent on being fed,such as peeping,pushing his way to the front? Maybe mother is teaching him the routine as a valuable learning tool? Feel badly for him
Being insistent will only get him bonked by his older siblings. He keeps his head tucked under himself and stays quiet and waits for the older ones to get full and fall asleep. Only then does he have a chance at eating anything.
polly labrie I know, it's heartbreaking to see. I heard he didn't make it, that big bully killed him. I know it's nature but it doesn't make it any less sad 😞
In real terms, #3 basically was mortally wounded by the large massive evil female of the nest, #1. #3 was a male, only a few days younger than #1 and #2. As you can see, he survived over a month a abuse and beatings from only #1. #2 never hit or touched him. #3 would just get beat on by #1 all the time, that and failure to get fed created his failure to thrive. For example, there is a nest in this same place where they have 3 eaglets, around the same age as these were last year. In that nest, the #3 is massive and has the run of the nest. She is easily 3 times bigger than this #3. But, that nest has no other females, both are males and fairly laid back. They leave #3 alone for the most part. In fact, in that nest, there's more concern for #2, who is super passive and is now getting hit by #3, and forced off the feed at times. At the feeds she gets his and her share, which ends up being more than #1 gets. Soon enough she'll be bigger than the older two. And, being of the gender, while begin fighting with 1 & 2 to dominate the nest. However, #3 there probably wouldn't have made it in this nest. Here, #2 made it but did so only by getting smart and adopting gurellia tactics to get food and avoid the crazy older sister #1.
I've seen in eagle's or birds community they mother bird always ignore their youngest chicks and the result is the younger chick always die of hunger or the elder chick always beat till death... so cruel....😢😢😢😢😢
