As far as activities, it’s great that you’re so engaged with your daughter but remember it’s not your job to entertain her all the time :) It’s good to encourage quiet time too or just involve her in whatever you’re doing. With my 4-month-old, I love to put her in her infant seat or high chair while I cook or do housework and explain to her what I’m doing and she loves it. It also means instead of trying to fit everything else in during her naps, I can use her nap time for some recharge/me time.
Agreed. Also when she gets bigger it is cool to allow her to be bored bc it teaches patience and creativity. Thanks for letting us see youe daily life Sierra
I did a lot of housework when my baby was that small (and still), I would put her on the floor next to me while I did laundry, or next to me while I did dishes or cleaned something else - allowed me to relax when she napped, and she was entertained watching me and listening to me talk or sing to her. I think it’s good for them to just observe us do things that has to be done, and it teaches them to pay attention and be content even if nothing is waved in front of them if that makes sense
Omg kids activities are my faves! One of the easiest sensory activities is putting things in ziplock bags and taping shut securely and taping to a high chair or play mat. You can use water, hair gel, conditioner, paint, whipped cream, glitter, sticks and leaves, fake flowers, ANYTHING! And it gets them working on fine motor skills, satisfies their sensory needs, and introduces texture, their ability to interact with the world around them, and how they can affect the world around them!
Hi! I'm an infant teacher, and am happy to share a few activities we do with our babies. Here's the list: 1) lots of footprint art (footprint bees, footprint cats, dogs, etc). It's a good sensory activity, plus it's cute. You can use baby-safe paint. 2) fingerprint art. We are going to use baby-safe paint to put their fingerprints on a pumpkin for fall. 3) sponge play. You can put water, food coloring, and baby wash in a tub and let them play with little cut up sponges. Be careful they don't chew the sponges. 4) foam play. You can make a foam with the liquid in cans of chick peas and cream of tartar (tik tok). Or find a safe recipe you like. They're everywhere. 5) you can get a big piece of paper and drizzle different colors of safe paint on it and let her crawl on the paper. Body art can be fun. I hope this helps!
@@tamigarbarino6036 Congrats on your baby! I'm so glad you like my ideas. I think washable paint is baby safe, but I would Google the brand just to be sure.
Hey, Sierra! Mom to a 5 month old here- what I found super helpful to answer the question “what do I do with my baby?” Is the Curious Baby cards. It’s a deck or cards organized by age and gives really great suggestions on fun little activities to do that are developmentally appropriate. My son’s fave rn is “magic carpet ride” where we will put him on a blanket and *gently* pull him along the floors of the house, giving him a little tour and getting some good giggles :)
Tip for Christmas! My mum made us kids a stocking and every year she sewed a button, patch etc on it, so we've now got something from each Christmas! We're in our early 20s now and still do it 😂😊
You’re modeling so many incredible traits for your daughter, it’s so fun to watch. I love seeing your confidence and strength through your journey of motherhood. You’re such a natural with Grace and how you interact with her. You are definitely the child of teachers! (same here 😂)
One of my favorite & most functional activities with small babies is baby wearing. It can be exhausting but if you are able to wear her around and do dishes together/get something done it's a great way to pass time, bond, and keep baby stimulated.
OMG Grace is getting so big. I love her smile. It’s funny, babies tend to really look more like one parent but I see so much of you and Stephen in her. ❤️
Activities I used to do with mine at that age: singing, dancing, tummy time, playmat on the back, helium balloon, walking around the house and telling her about stuff, reading books, doing things in the kitchen while she watches me and I entertain her, also look up sensory play for babies. You can put things in ziplock bags with water for her to play with it during tummy time, rattles or sensory bottles with oil+water+glitter, trying different textures, playing with water
The “ i don’t want to sleep long, forget it mom”. Ooohh i remember that! An activity you could do is baby swimming. My kids LOVED IT!!! Still do. I know it’s not a very day thing, but it was amazing. I also found a book called play with you kid from 0 to 12 months. It was a danish book, but there must be one in English out there. The one I had was brilliant.
OMG, the way she looks up at you while you are talkng is so PRECIOUS!!! I do not have any kids, but I remember waking my Nephew up from a nap and him always being so happy, warm, and cuddly. BEST TIMES!
Pediatric occupational therapist here! Some great activities for her age 😊 1. Tummy time sensory play- you can fill a large gallon ziplock back with hair gel and beads and sponge pieces for her to explore 2. Shaving cream play! Tape down a trash bag to the floor and spray shaving cream on it. On her tummy or in a supported sit have her engage both of her hands in the cream 3. Water play! Get a little storage tub and fill it with water and fun bath toys Hope this helps!
I love to see your perspective change about less preferred seasons by trying to see things anew through Grace’s eyes. 🥺 I definitely recommend stopping by a Marshall’s or Home Goods for more fall decor if you want it! Happy Christian Girl Autumn! 🍁🍂😂
I entertained my little baby by going on long stroller walks, setting him on a blanket under a shady tree to look at the leaves, reading to him, singing, and splashing in a pool. Just a few fun options 🙂
My little guy is 5 months but I always do house tours. I walk around the house and just describe what we are seeing. Or I lay a blanket in the shade outside and let him look at the sky and I read or just relax! Being a mom rocks!
You asked for activity ideas, so a few is of course reading, I always pick like 5 shorter stories and read each of them about 3 times a day. Also a museum of your house, just walk around showing her everything and explaining things to her! Also dance party’s! My daughter loved watching me dance/ dance with her!
This is one thing I love about you americans: decoring you’re home for each single season of the year😂💕 This is really mindblowing to me and at the same time I love it❣️
I'm an American living in the UK and our houses in the states tend to have more storage so we can keep all the stuff. Most people don't go crazy like a lot of youtubers, but I still swap out sofa pillows and blankets and little table top decorations.
Sierra can I just say that I think it is SO sweet that you want to make holidays special for Grace. As a kid I looked forward to holidays so much, still do now. But it’s always my favorite time. What a special way to celebrate family time and the holidays with her ❤️🙌🏻
Hi Sierra! I was just watching your newest main channel videos last night and I just want to say that you are so beautiful and your body is so powerful! You just had your miracle baby! It can be difficult going into stores and seeing that your size isn’t even in their consideration (as someone who’s bottom heavy and fluctuated between a size 22-26 over the past 5-6 years) but the sizing of your clothes don’t matter but the size of your heart. I can tell you & Stephen are such beautiful people and great parents. Much love 🤍 I’m itching to put out my fall decorations!
Out of curiosity- what are you thinking about for Halloween costumes??? You should totally do a vlog or main channel video doing the first Halloween as a family!
Use textures, different fabrics to touch, different sounds, tapping on cups, pans etc. I used to give the baby spatulas and spoons and he would love grabbing them and exploring them. Silicone ones are great for teeth too. Mostly I totally get the cyclical feeling. It is monotonous at this age sometimes. I used to walk around the yard with the baby to make it to nap time sometimes! They love it because there’s so much to see
As a new mama myself I’ve found that swaddle sacks have been a blessing, I don’t mind the “swaddle me” sleep sacks that have the Velcro to keep baby snug in there (Daddy struggles with them though🤣) also the “love to dream” ones that zipper and baby’s hands can be up are awesome (daddy can handle these ones)
One thing I used to do when my kids were babies was have them "help" with tasks. For instance I would fold the laundry and talk about the texture of the fabrics and have the baby feel the fabric. I could get some small things done and the baby gets some verbal and tactile experiences.
I definitely needed to hear that they get more fun. My son is 2 months and I love him so much but I’ve been wondering when he’ll be able to laugh and smile more.
Baby wearing and independent floor time! Definitely helped my sanity trying to keep on top of house stuff/life without having to give my son loads of activities during wake windows, also when he started needing more contact naps he could just fall asleep in the carrier 🎉😅
My new sister-in-law is from the Philippines, and they start decorating and celebrating Christmas in the "ber" months (SeptemBER, OctoBER, etc). So it's not too early for Christmas if you love it.
Hi Sierra I don't have children of my own however I work at a daycare and the infant room has various toys for them to interact with. One thing I noticed the infants like while doing tummy time is having a mirror propped up or a mirrored ball/block in front of them so they can look at themselves. Additionally for sitting up you can prop her up and have her reach for the dangling toys on her play mat. Another thing the babies like to look at during tummy time are sensory bottles which you can DIY and there are videos on RU-vid on how to do that or buy them. Of course these activities would require supervision. You're doing a great job! ♥️
With my baby who is now 7 months old we did a lot of floor time with toys that he could play with on the floor and it’s helped him become a crawler at 6 months and standing with support at 7 months so I think floor time is always the best 😊
My parents (my mom especially) always went all out for holidays when we were kids. Halloween (which is my moms fav and mine now too), thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. and I remember it so vividly and am so thankful that they did bcuz it gave me such good memories ❤️
I'm a curly girl as well, and I love straightening my hair! I also have that issue where my cut looks weird when it's straight because it's cut for my curls. So the way I get around that is I usually do curls with my straightener to hide the blunt, awkward ends. And honestly, I leave my hair for, like, 2 full weeks whenever I straighten it 😅 That's the best part!
My daughter is almost eight months and it's a whole new world! She is crawling and pulling up so she got a little chair to practice on and we keep her in the open living room area to play. When she was little, we did tummy time, read books, went outside, went for a ride in the car, and watched the cats play.
I love letting my kids just watching me do everyday tasks, pop them in a bouncer and bring them around the house while you do chores. When they are so young they don’t need lots of stimulation so it’s perfect 👍🏻
A lot of great suggestions on here, but I wanted to add that at that age my baby was occasionally entertained just by watching me walk around the kitchen unloading the dishwasher or watching me fold clothes. Surprisingly entertaining.
I am the same way! My husband loves Halloween and since we now live in a house I have gone wild with Halloween decorations. My focus has been cute spooky like felt bats, spider candy bowl, lit pumpkins, and wicker pumpkins like yours!
Blowing bubbles is a great activity for young babies, I used to do it last thing before my husband would come home from work, it was fun for baby and relaxing for me!
Loveeverly has some great items- Also put a full length mirror along the floor so she can look at herself. It’s better to get babies to know how to occupy them self’s (you shouldn’t have to always occupy them) this way as they get older you don’t have to constantly entertain them. Look at the Montessori approach- kavanaugh report is a great resource!!
Some how small old video of yours showed up in my feed… like one of your first videos… oh my gosh!! You look so young and like a baby yourself still on those video! Very cool To watch you grow as an influencer, a wife and a mama!
I am a nanny and I can 10000% understand what you mean about days feeling repetitive! Museums with fun things like lights were fun when she was a little baby. Also those "crinkly" books were a huge hit as well as this water sensory mat from amazon!! They also used this mat at the PT office. I would also put random safe household objects in a bowl and that would keep her busy for a bit
So so excited about this video! Fall and winter are my favorite time of year, and your decorations are beautiful! 💕🎃 and you look amazing with you hair straightened too!😊💕💕
Grace is getting so big! I swear they just get more and more fun. I miss Target during the fall and winter holidays. Not nearly as many decorations available where I live now. Lots of love from SW France!
Hey Sierra I just love your channel! I have a 5 month old, and finding a verity of activities to do with him can be hard. We got a tummy time water mat and he loves it! We got ours from Target, but I know Amazon has some pretty inexpensive ones too!
My LO is now six months old but for few months he was obsessed with the lamaze captain calamari. I could give it to him and he would explore it for 30+ mins without getting bored. Two other things we did to pass time on long days was to listen to music and shake maracas or get in the bath together and let him have a little 'swim'. I didn't know babies at that age float as long as you support their head but he is so happy floating in the bath
If you are up for a little DIY and want to change up from bright orange plastic pumpkin you can paint them in a colour you like. One style I love is painting them in white and putting gold accents on them (can be like simple dots or something). Might be a fun thing to do and for you who like scrapbooking and stuff you could even get stickers to put on your painted pumpkins :3
I worked in nurseries for 20 yrs. we would sometimes strip the babies down to their nappies and allow them to finger paint using child friendly paints. Following that they got water play (which helped us to get them cleaned up again)
Hearing you talk about holidays and kids made me think of my mum not wanting to decorate for Christmas anymore because she doesn’t truly like it and she only did it for me and my brother while we were kids and now that we’re adults (I’m in my 30s) it’s not needed and she can perfectly be without it, which honestly made me quite sad because I love Christmas and everything about it, including the decoration. I hope you and your family never lose that spark of joy in the holidays 🧡 also, the wreath is so cute! Maybe put a black beat on it for Halloween and it can stay for a bit longer?
you’re such a good momma ❤️ it’s clear as day. i knew i really liked you, but you really had me at “watch bachelor in paradise” lol that sealed the deal for me!
i don’t have any recommendations for baby activities other than maybe taking a walk with her, my twins are 3 now and it’s a whole new world! the activities dont stop lol it’s bitter sweet :)
I have a almost 4 month old and my baby girl Sterling loves loves books, especially the contrast ones. With black and white, so I usually go through a few of those with her. And they are learning ones with letters, and animal pics! Super cute (: other than that I’m doing basically the same as you. Eat, play, sleep lol
