The crew of the ISS Travan were truly a group of novelists! I've never seen such a well-written internal correspondence. Seriously, the game - as you say - was ultimately a bit dull and repetitive, but one good thing for sure was the writing. Lots of indie horror games are riddled with misspellings, bad grammar, and a general lack of polish for the written word. Decrypt was a welcome exception on this front. Cheers! -Rick
They could have explained that the ghosts messing with comms renderd the system unable to record audio logs. Then had examples of messages with garbled audio till they resorted to text only.
@@Cheerok *raises up hands into a triangle* Behold! The Trifecta of You're Fucked has been reached! By the powers of Dead Space, Event Horizon, and Alien invoked, all but one may survive, and even that one barely, probably scarred for life with the horrible memories etched into their souls!
I liked the story, the beginning did remind me of Event Horizon, and yea, I agree CJU the constant mining was just tedious. I think it would've been better had the dev only done that for a couple of doors and had keys for a few other areas and left a couple of doors open, just for the variety. The text messages didn't make much sense to me since it is the future and people are still texting their logs? But then the dev may not have been able to get other voice actors, lack of budget for instance, so I'm forgiving of that. A mixed bag for me to be sure.
let's take a moment to appreciate that CJU cuts the video where he only runs from 1 place to another without anything happen. Saves us the trouble to skip ourselves
I was impressed by how it looked and sounded (the voice acting was good!), and the story was interesting, but yeah it was way too repetitive in the gameplay for me. But loved your playthrough as always!
Well...that was boring. 😶 Even the enemies can't be bothered to be a threat. 😂 But at least the title isn't misleading, although it probably should be "Decrypt, Get Key, R-e-a-d, Rinse and Repeat." This is a case of you being 100% of the entertainment, CJU. Thanks for slogging through this one.
I enjoy these longer videos, they're great company for when I crochet! Also, thank you for actually reading the notes in these games. I listen more than I watch when I'm crocheting or working, so I appreciate it!
Congrats on 100k subscribers, CJU! Well I agree with you. I'm not a fan of a story-driven game though the story is still manage to hook me up on my seat. I just want to know where all the crew gone... But I love the video. You try to give your best shots, reading all the notes while other players won't. Thanks!
Behind the repetitivness and obvious linear playthrough was suprisingly well-build and solid story to tell! I would love to see this as a sci-fi novel or comic! And yes, some bathrooms are an inpenetrable fortresses from what it seems.
To tell the truth I thought the ending was going to be one of those we didn't make it ending, happy that we made it out, and the ship will be destroyed and those poor souls will rest good game
I did a good job of trying something new but it did overplay that idea quite a lot. The slow pace enemies could have been improved with better animations. Commentary made it for me! 👍
The writing was good, but the space ghosts made the whole 'lost in space' feel less horrifying for me. Maybe because ghosts feel too familiar and reminds me of a haunted house more than being isolated on an abandoned space ship. The ship felt... comfortable (and linear). Just needed a bit of tidying up, and maybe an exorcism or two. 👍
Collect key --- Read note --- Open door --- Repeat. It was so repetitive that I find myself consistently checking if I'm close to reaching the end of this video, something that I very rarely do. The notes didn't interest me enough to be invested in the story. And on top of that, it didn't help that the mining ship and its "abandonment" reminded me of Dead Space (except DS was far better). If there's any positive takeaway in this game, I suppose it'll have to be the beginning segment, just before the tedious grinding. But hey, at least they tried to mix things up a bit..... by making you fetch power cells. 😐
Very excited about the new Alan Wake with all of the same voice actors. My son loves your videos (he is 3 and knows not to talk "big people words") he asks for Hatch (it makes him giggle) and Huggie wuggie (as soon as he sees the flower wall at the end he asks for us to start it from the beginning) Now to start another hour long one WOOT! Thank you for all the videos.
This game is reminding me a lot of “event horizon” and I am wondering if the green goop is the crew. But it’s definitely got me guessing, and I love your duration of the walk-through. It always makes my day when I see one of your videos that I have yet to watch!
The concept of this was pretty cool but I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of gameplay. There should've been some kind of puzzle for the decryption instead of just pushing the button and having it auto complete. The way it plays, it's no different than finding scattered keys in a haunted house and wait for the next scare--rinse, repeat. On top of that, not having audio logs so you could explore and get the story didn't help. The writing was pretty decent and the atmosphere/sounds were good--rest was sadly repetitive and stale.
Pretty much in full agreement with you on this one. I had my expectations a little bit higher than usual since the presentation and the fact it was space based horror (my favorite kind) but they were a little bit let down in the end. Story is actually pretty good. Enjoyed it but certainly agree it would be much better as an audio log. The fact it's pretty much mandatory to read each note is also a bit of a bummer, good story telling or not. I feel like you should really give the player the option of whether they want to uncover more about the lore. Then the dull comment. If reaaallly did feel like a slow burn. Too much in fact. On the one hand, it's nice it didn't go for constant jumpscares but the scares it did have were very far and few between. The scares were good when they happened however. Overall, I think I liked it (or rather I'm sure I liked watching you play it rather than me playing it myself) but I do feel like it could be something special if it didn't trip on those earlier points. Would certainly be interested in seeing what else the devs come up with next however.
Congrats on 100,000! I enjoy watching you very much, you narrating is excellent, ive told people I know about you,and that you should defiently be a voice actor,or narrator in a game I can defiently see you narrating a protagonist in a game!!😉🙂🙂 As for this game itself,it was ok,I think they could have done so much more and made it longer and put more time into it and it would have been better or something, but good story and graphics🙂🙂
I knew that CJU stands for your given name 🤔. Also, I want to congratulate you on your 100 000 subs👏. I'm not trying to speculate on your future viewing, but I Know that you will reach 1 000 000 subs sooner than you ever imagined. Godspeed and God bless!
That is so typical of Horror. The Horrible people get away with their shenanigans, and the monsters created by the horrible people, kill off a crew with a Benevolent Saint of a Captain. The Captain didn't even hold a grudge when he was shortly going to die to them.
The gameplay was very dull, but the story was interesting enough to keep you wanting to move forward. I'm glad that there was an actual threat, even though a very simple one, but it did make certain situations tense.
I spent the whole video waiting for something to be standing on the other side of whatever door you opened ready to jump you. Kind of disappointed at the result. Oh, and the air vents really reminded me of Alien: Isolation. The story was actually interesting, but the game itself, I think you nailed it in your assessment, way to fornulaic, and frankly, kind of boring. Still, commentary was spot on, as usual. Thanks fo rplaying, Chris!
“That did spook me, but it looked kind of goofy. I wish I hadn’t seen it..” the little vent creeper 😂😂😂 This was an entertaining watch at least! I agree, it’d be cool if there had been a mix of video/audio messages vs just text messages. Had good atmosphere at least, like Alien/Soma vibes.
"there's always a damn message" lol that's what i was thinking. so much reading only to get rewarded with, "look at me standing there shaking or retreating" for over half the game. that one type of scare near the end is banned in theatres, with zero transition into the screen.
The Writing was 5 out of 5 I was pulled in! It sort of felt like an Author wanted to write a book, but instead went for the "Walking Simulator" Book. I really enjoy Walking Simulator Books, like Gone Home and Everybody's gone to the Rapture.
It's obvious that in 25th century a lot of effort goes into internal e-mail excellence :) Such well-written correspondence, even from technicians. Wow.
Agree with your assessment of the game mechanics - way too formulaic and railroaded, with the enemies shepherding you towards the correct doors. But I really loved the storyline! It was captivating and unique, and I'm glad you played it all the way through.
Interesting story but definitely agree about the formulaic nature. The writing in the game was excellent though. Even though audio logs would've been nice, whoever wrote this was an eloquent wordsmith. I actually wasn't expecting it to be that kind of story so I was quite intrigued. The "monsters" weren't really the monsters at all, and the end of the game leaves you with good questions and speculations.
I always enjoy your videos, but as to the game….I’m usually a sucker for this kind of plot but this one was a bit lacklustre. I felt as if I was waiting for a climax which never happened - disappointing. But it won’t stop me watching! You’re great, CJU.
I am enjoying the story of this game. Chris, thank you for reading everything out loud. I am finding it too dark to see the monster, however this does not take away from my enjoyment of the story.
Although a tad slow and literally locking everything behind keys (not to mention, as other have stated about Ishimura etc.), telling tale through environment is pretty good, graphic and sources (or how it´s called) are good looking and overall I enjoyed it :) And finally and actual ending! Good ending, weirdly enough, but it´s nice change. Also gratz to 100k !
Hi Chris! Im writing from sweden and i have follow you for 5 years now,you are the best of that you doing..sorry for my very bad english.. rock on chris...
I think this would make an amazing story board for a game to be built from. Add in a lot of the missing features. Stretch things out a bit with more and varied activities between the story bits. Maybe even add in a hide/combat system and it could be pretty amazing. If the game could be stretched out by adding all that stuff to around 4-5 hours total game play. Then it could be truly worth buying and playing. That said I did really like the story of the game. The atmosphere was good. The "monsters" could use a bit of work. Really investing more heavily in the sound could really make this game very creepy.
This looks pretty good. I love the story so far. I wish it wasn't as repetitive though. I'd like to see the reading parts be switched up a little. If they would change some of the reading and mining for keys it would be really good. Great video!😊👍
I kinda like the ambience, and the quality of writing and storytelling was pretty solid, but it does seem like the developer forgot to include much in the way of gameplay. That said, it was at least more interesting than most of the asset-flipped run-away-from-a-janky-monster with badly-written-notes stuff that pops up a lot of the time.
This game did a good job at unnerving me a much of times. The sounds they made. Also liked the story. Too bad the gameplay elements were pretty weak and rinse and repeat. I agree with a lot of the messages should've been audio logs. But as always it's always enjoyable watching you play a game. Cheers from Oklahoma 🤘
I think its a brilliant game to watch, but I can see why it would be dull to play. The story was really good and the tension in the air was thick the whole time. So yeah, I quite enjoyed watching this one.
My first thought was analyze the green stuff for toxins. It sounded like there was something in it that was interrupting the crew's REM cycle. Audio logs would allwed you to explore the interesting looking rooms but it seems it was mostly window dressing. And as for the slavery angle, it seems like the narrative was advocating for the destruction of historic relics that have too much emotional and maybe even spiritual bagage attached to it. Could have made an interesting episode of the rebooted Twilight Zone or Outer Limits series that was done in the 80s & 90s. One of them had an episode where scientists discovered an asteroid was the remnant of a planet that had an ultra advanced society. The planet went nova and it turns out its light was the Christmas star seen over Bethlehem. It caused the mission's space priest a few issues.
It felt more like a walking simulator, which was a shame since there were some fun ideas and the big reveal was never 100% known up until then as to why shizzle was happening. Maybe the makers could take that learning block for future games. They've certainly got some good story-telling and creative ideas, but maybe focus on some more variation in future and I reckon they could dp well!
I love a good under dog story... I also love a good back from the grave/ "grave" for revenge story. I'm torn. :) Too right though, game play needs some variety.
😅😅😅 This playthrough is the most fun I've had in all the time I've been watching and listening to Chris. Yeah, the game's okay, but Chris is what makes it iresistible! Oh, on another note, am I the only one who thinks our hero's contact is seriously cross-eyed?
This game reminds me of Event Horizon. Loved it but have to agree with Chris, audio logs would have made a huge difference. Thanks again for another great walk through.
(Haven't watched yet). I really hope this is either some nice extraterrestrial monster and/or body horror. I'm tired of ghosts. :) Thanks for the video!
dead space all over again! why is he reading jorge as horhay?! really? these people are veterans at traveling through space and maintaining a ship...and some guy on the crew FORGOT his access card?! seriously!? i'm actually surprised you made it out alive.
Reminds me of a great Frictional Games' game - Soma... not sure if you've ever had a chance to play it but it's honestly a classic to me, yet not without it's flaws (puzzles are a bit simple and the threats in the game, although few and far between, are very frustrating). All worth it for the deep and twisted story that has one of the best endings I've ever experienced.
