What a shame...what a loss. He should still be around. He'd only be in his early 70's if he was still alive. While it is tragic that he died the way he did, it would most definitely be the most pleasant way to die...
he wrote 75-80% of the songs, and he was the most influential punk bassist of all time, johnny is also the most influential guitarist of all time, but he couldn't write songs like Dee Dee. I love all the ramones though, the real ramones joey, johnny, and dee dee RIP!!
El Pinche Hombre I bought and read the book written by Mickey Leigh about his brother Joey. Heard a radio interview of Vera (one of Dee Dee's eives). She was very interesting, sweet and positive. I think I will also buy and read the book about poor Dee Dee even if I feel heartbroken in advance 🥺🎸🎼🌺🎤🎧❤️
I'm almost done with his book, it's on sale for 2.99 on kindle right now. I'd rather have a real copy, but for 2.99 I'm fine with reading my phone. Lol
@Jawknee That has nothing to do with what Juan said. Dee himself said he just didn't know what he was doing in rap. They're two completely different styles and genres of music and two different types of musical cultures.
He didn't write all of the Ramones songs now, just a shit ton of them. The KKK took my Baby Away was a Joey song and I Don't Want to Grow up is a Tom Waits cover. But he was pretty great.

It's all my fault! I've been listening to this for months. Now I know exactly what it looked like. This is great! Such a great writer and performer. No comparison to Sid Vicious. He produced so many good songs & really hung in there. Dee Dee Ramone Forever!!!

Saw the Ramones in Sydney 1983 there abouts. Sixty minutes of ear drum busting, blistering rock. Stand out moment, Dee Dee biting off a flap of skin on his right plucking thumb spraying blood over the Fender. Rock'n'Roll in bliss.
under appreciated artist when he was alive. he wrote the bulk of the ramones best songs. his legacy lives on- i see kids still wear ramones t-shirts more today than back when he was around. he influenced fashion too - main stream kids they dress like him and have his hairstyle-they just don't know it.
Sure wish I saw Dee Dee and the Ramones live! Why did God not keep the Ramones young and alive? Such a terrible lost. But good thing is they gave us all of this great music. Thanks Ramones.
I met Dee Dee a few times before he died, he was so fragile and charming, you just wanted to hug him and protect him from the world and himself. He came back to my work one day and gave me his last copy of The Ramainz CD.

I used to book bands at what is now First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN. My career wasn't very long or great. But I did get to rub shoulders with the Ramones in 1978,1980,IN NYC 1981,1986,HOLLYWOOD 1988. Dee Dee always struck me as such a good guy.
As a fan of the The Ramones this is sadl to watch as well as his ignorance to when JOHNNY THUNDERS passed...I read his book about the times he spent at the Chelsea, he was great (if not so stoned) when they received their introduction into The Rock Roll Hall of Fame..I remember taping it when it was on VH1. Johnny as always was a class act. So sad that the original and the only are gone.
This was a real hip spot in the East Village for a year or two in the early 2000s. I saw Old Dirty Bastard and many others perform on the same small stage; it could have been the day ODB was released from prison. It was one of a handful of spots in the city where you could get in and drink for free if you had an interesting look. I think Spa was the Wednesday night spot.
We all wish he stayed with Ramones, but when you watch Dee Dee in the last concerts he looked so bored and fed up. Look at him in this video, he looks great, happy, and has a glow about him.
Very cool. Thanks 1-2-3-4 posting. Dee Dee did a few Johnny Thunders' songs , besides "Chinese Rocks" and "Born To Lose". He released "Chatterbox" as the flipside to "What About Me". I don't know if there's any clips up here , but I saw Dee Dee twice with The Chinese Dragons in the 90's , and both shows were great.

I think Dee Dee Ramone was the most authentic punk rocker ever. His life was pure punk from start to finish. Too many punks were/are charlatans mostly playing dress up while they live the same lives as anyone else. Sid Vicious was authentic but talentless and short-lived.
