Say what you want about AJR but you can’t deny that they’re an American indie pop trio composed of multi-instrumentalist brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met
@@marcobazan4187 I’d probably cut to the chase and do Nickleback, which I’ve said similar things about. Routinely cited as the world’s worst band, I don’t think Nickleback are even in consideration for the world’s worst bad. They’re extremely average, which people often confuse with being bad.
@@mb_arts379 I agree with you completely. There are certainly a handful of songs from each album that i think are overproduced and challenging to call enjoyable. Some examples i think of are Livin on Love, Call My Dad, Weak, Joe, etc. But some of my favorite songs by AJR are some of my favorite songs i have ever listened to. Karma pumps me up every single time i hear it. Come Hang Out, classic. Finale (Can't Wait to See) is very underrated in my opinion! And i am loving most of Ok Orchestra, i listen to Way Less Sad, 3 O'Clock Things, Humpty Dumpty, Ordinaryish People and World's Smallest Violin every day since the album dropped.
Dead on bruh. I love all the weird production tricks they pull out and the lyrics about growing up or figuring stuff out. And some people hate those things about them. Takes all kinds.
For real, i remember when i first saw the title of the song a couple years ago and thinking it had some dark meaning before actually listening to the song. I didn't know exactly what Woody Allen did but I there was always a red flag when it came to him
I forgot where but its actually a Tumblr saying that died out too quickly, the saying "im feeling judt like woody Allen" was a thing for "im at the top of the world' but super edgy styled
@@faro8784 Hi Weezer, he married his adopted daughter and supposedly sexually abused his actual daughter. There's a documentary on HBO about it "Farrow vs. Allen" i think, you should check it out it's really good.
Dude, if you're bored of hearing about artists with near-perfect discographies, why would you watch a video about AJR? That's like saying "I'm bored of cheese, so I'm going to eat a grilled cheese sandwich."
@@jeremyusreevu237 as an ajr fan, nah they ain’t close to perfect. Living room wasn’t amazing and a lot of individual songs in later albums are ruined by bad sample choice or just creative decisions. I’d say they are still good, but they aren’t perfect
the reason I've never hated ajr is that I've seen them perform live as an opener for foster the people... and to be completely honest, it made their whole discog unlock for me. they perform with the energy and enthusiasm of toddlers, so it doesn't surprise me anymore that their subject matter and lyricism is so nailed to childhood. I have a lot of respect for how much they clearly have fun writing music and at this point just stick around for the *interesting* musicality
Makes sense, the toddler energy comes in their childish themes and lyrics their annoying uso of samples and really in you face chord progressions and just all the melodrama, very unlikeable
Amazing video as always, had to watch straight through without pausing, forgot my coffee which is now cold. Worth it. Oh and the line ay 17:48 is probably about learning on youtube (watching Khan academy, online harvard lessons etc) not about doing it as a job. Keep up the amazing work my dude. I really can't stop watching your stuff.
ah yes let me compare myself to a CHILD in my love song. This most certainly won't sound uncomfortable in the slightest, especially if I make that lyric the most bombastic part of the song. What could go wrong? :D
Somehow, as an AJR fan since late 2014, I GENUINELY didn't know that The Click was such a hated album. Damn, whoops. Ah well, this video is super interesting, and I don't disagree, but I'll still be bopping these hits ;)
You know, when I heard that AJR has a lot of haters, I expected to learn that they've done something horrendous that I simply just wasn't aware of. So it's comforting to know it's just a matter of taste and perception. I like the band. But I can respect that they're not for everyone. Thanks for the great video!
oh no no no no once during a recent concert jack saw a member in the crowd who looked sick from the heat at the venue and stopped the song halfway to make sure she was ok.
@@bricksbybricks34legoandmor2 Plus one time they noticed a fan actually got a seizure during a show, and quickly stopped it to make sure they were ok. Everyone in the crowd was cooperative and made sure medics were able to get her to safety and the show was able to continue, but most importantly, the girl was ok. Man, I'm so glad that every musical artist out there is willing to do this for the fans in the crowd of their shows...
I like AJR's style, their mish-mash of genres really tingles every part of my body, I think that it's fun. I understand that it's not for everybody, though, and I don't hate people who hate on them, because everybody has different tastes, so your opinions are as valid as mine
@Faust Graves Exactly! Not super fond of when the vocals are excessively pitched up like in the trick, but my musical playlist has a bunch of their songs because I think they sound great and I like them. Other people can disagree and that's okay too
Back in 2013 I was in high school and worked at a Regal movie theater. I worked in concessions - we had TVs all around the concession stand and in the lobby that played those in-house company channels with commercials and ads you see nowhere else except Regal properties. They were always promoting I’m Ready by “hot, new band” AJR. It came on 2-4 times an hour, every hour of my shift. I decided right then and there I hated AJR.
I was genuinely so surprised to see this here today! I'm a big AJR fan myself, however I fully understand that their music is VERY much a 'love it or hate it' deal for the most part. Even though the damning reviews by the likes of ARTV and Spectrum Pulse are so entertaining to watch, I appreciate you taking an unbiased view of their music and reading both sides of the story: both from the lovers and the haters. This is an admittedly flawed band with a lot of potential, I think that's the one thing we can all mutually agree on. Fave songs? 'AfterHours' from the I'm Ready EP 'Pitchfork Kids' from the Infinity EP/Living Room 'Turning Out' from The Click (yes I know that lyric is awful) 'Karma' from Neotheater 'Christmas in June' from OK Orchestra Keep up the great work dude! I ADORE your content :D
My favorites: Thirsty from The Living Room Overture from The Click Non-Overture song: A tie between Bud Like You, Sober Up, and Come Hang Out Neotheater: Finale (Can't Wait To See What You Do Next) Ok Overture from Ok Orchestra Non-Overture song: Way Less Sad
AfterHours and Pitchfork Kids I can get behind. But my fav off The Click was probably Netflix Trip, NeoTheater was Karma, and Ok Orchestra was tied between Humptey Dumptey/Ordinarish People/Way Less Sad.
Same! I was like "Wait I thought he didn't like them though?" Fave songs per album: "Infinity" from Livin' Room (Honorable mention for "Livin' on Love") "Turning Out" from the Click (I do think that Mic makes a valid point that sometimes they go so big so early that their songs can't really have a proper "build" to them, and Turning Out shows just how great they can be when they take their sweet time with that build). "Finale (Can't Wait to See What You Do Next)" (the soundtrack to my existential crises... although I could say that about AJR in general). "Humpty Dumpty" from OK Orchestra
I love that Christmas in June is your favorite OKO track because SAME! I feel like it’s going to be pretty underrated but I just can’t stop thinking about it...it makes me cry and smile every time
I'm just gonna be brave and say...I've always been a huge fan of AJR and impressed with the fact that they produce all their stuff and do pop in a really out-of-the-box way. It was until YEARS later I discovered that they're so hated by music critics. Like I was fully shocked lmao. Now I don't know how to feel.
Same me and all my friend really like AJR and I was deadass shook when all saw all the negative reviews for their stuff, cause I thought the band was really fucking good, like Neotheater is one of my favorite albums.
yeah same, i found neotheatre and the click and it was my favourite album of all time (still is), only recently realized that apparently they're super hated??
Same :*(((( I've been a huge fan for 3 years and all the reactions from my friends or youtubers were super positive but somehow I never saw anyone hate their music.
I’ve recently gotten into them and I had no clue they were hated. I mean, while their music has a repetitive style theme wise and production wise at least in their last two records, I really do like their sound. Jack has a really clean appealing voice
I really don’t think their that bad. While some of their lyrics don’t resonate with me they can also be helpful. Some things that make you love them make you hate them. But being someone not in the music industry I don’t see how u can slander someone
im glad u gave ajr a chance lol. as a fan of the band i agree with a fair bit of stuff in this vid but to me theyre just so like, earnestly over-the-top and bizarre? that i cant help but love them. its like that "how long will this song take to lose me?" thing you mentioned in the video but in reverse, every time theres some weird lyric or piece of protools abuse i am simply transfixed. agreed that ok orchestra is their best album so far, i feel like it does the best at combining their weird overblown style with like actual great songwriting as opposed to like at least a third of the click that was interesting but just sorta didnt work. great vid
I haven't seen anyone talking about it so... Bang was supposed to be their last song. Presumably, they wrote it before COVID hit and they had been planning to just tour and then rest for a bit. So, they were planning to go out with this massive song, as in going out with a bang. But, when they were locked in during the pandemic, they decided to be productive and write OK Orchestra. So that (hopefully) explains that song.
As someone who really likes AJR, I honestly can't refute any of your points. I'm not really a lyrics guy, so I don't really cringe at them, and I love their weird EDM like production. But I get how someone could hate them :)
When you listen to Lemon Demon like me and my friends, you know you aren't much of a lyrics person (though I value lyrics a lot). Compare talking about a spirit mongoose to childhood and then...
@@superpiktwo5933 I disagree, Eighth Wonder is a great song lyriclly. It's just not about anything else other than it's main topic. Not all good lyrics, have something underneath, they just say what they say rather well.
AJR is for the most part not something that I would choose to listen to on my own, but I have fond memories of going on road trips with friends that are soundtracked by Neotheater. Plus Karma is far and away the best song on that album.
“AJR, I don’t hate em” me an ajr fan used to relentless hate smiling aggressively- also thank you for giving it a fair chance, even tho you didn’t love them it was still nice to see a critic not just hating on them lol :) favorite song would probably beeee finale or humpty dumpty? idk it changes a lot lmao andddd subscribed!
My favorite is probably Karma. Male mental health tends to be ignored + it's nice to see a band tackle the subject. I know a lot of guys that would never step in a therapist's office because they see it as weak.
@@braveasanoun5732 i love karma! i kinda prefer humpty dumpty/ WSV just bc i can relate to them more personally but karma will always have a special place in my heart
My favorites definitely have the be both Turning Outs. What can I say, even though Part I is overload and the lyrics... I still like it unironically. However, Ryan's singing in Part II and the lyrics have to be some, if not, their best. Oh, also WLS aka. yhe song praised by Brad Taste
I agree that Weak's key change is... tacky and feels unnecessary. But I like the lyrics and how they contrast the two parts of addiction with their music. The verses are about the poison you prefer and you know that it's bad for you, you keep repeating that to others and to yourself. And then comes the relapse and bam! The chorus! With this wall of wobbling bassline where you give in to your addiction again and during the high you think "but I'm weak and what's wrong with that?". I like that one. Everyone who struggles with some kind of addiction can probably relate to this feeling.
I've been an AJR fan since 2015 when I was in 6th grade and this album was the first time that I feel their music hasn't matured with me. their music was never super mature but neither was I. it was the music that was perfect for those different times in my life, but I've grown past them. I won't forget the good memories their music has given and I will always hold those near to my heart, but it's time for me to keep moving forward. I don't see a time where I stop listening to their old music, but I probably won't be listening to any of their new music. they need to do a complete 180 lyrically for me to enjoy their music, and I don't see that happening. the production has always been the strongest part of their music, and the lyrics on OKO have reached a new low for them.
I’ve actually been really obsessed with AJR lately and Way Less Sad lives in my head rent free 😂 as someone who’s currently in therapy and has struggled with anxiety and depression for years, their music makes me feel a lot better about what I’m going through and I love the upbeat spin they take to these serious topics I’m not super knowledgeable about music production or anything like that so videos like this are really fascinating
They said they would rather have a fan base that really loves them and the rest of people don’t than being a band that everyone kinda likes a few songs. So you either love em or you hate em
This is absolutely the best AJR critique video I've ever seen, so much respect in the way you criticize each thing, at no point did I ever feel bad for liking AJR. Well done 👏👏👏
I loved this one a lot. Really a great job. It was the right spot in the middle. So many people would be ready to claim AJR as either the best band ever or the worst one, but he just decided to actually review it.
I think the problem is that their production is just...obnoxious. Like you said, like they're trying to throw as many ideas in at once, and it ends up sounding incredibly forced and overwhelming.
i think the difference is those who enjoy AJR enjoy the overproduction because that's their style that fans fell in love with. Its niche, though, and we fans should understand not everyone will enjoy.
Didn't expect loving so much watching you analyze the discography of a not so acclaimed band. Would like to see a DDD on other bands or artists like nickelback or brokencyde
i've totally repressed my memories of that first song, and hearing it again after years of being left alone by it, plus the realization that AJR made it gave me whiplash
I enjoy the perspective you provide here, especially as someone who enjoys AJR Learning that you, an informed musician, don't like (or respect?) what I do about their music really drives home the idea of different strokes for different folks Without going too deep into it, the differences in our POVs seems to come down to our expectations for music and how we interact with it which enriches my appreciation that much more Thanks for posting!
Ajr are a perfectly good band, and the hate that they get confuses me like nothing else. Their music just sounds like a combo of all the middle of the road indie pop i listened to in high school, and I can’t hate them for it no matter how hard I try.
I think something that frustrates me as an AJR fan is how people who don't like the band are too invested in slamming the band and still listening to to every new song expecting them to completely change. I think AJR know people despise them but they won't change because they know the fans they've got love their style so they don't change to appease people who have never liked them. The most interesting thing I found with this video is that a lot of your complaints about individual songs I don't actually see myself and I assume that this is common for the fans.
Finally a critic who’s opinion and delivery I can respect in regards to one of my fav bands ever! Great critique and breakdown of the band. I can actually agree on some points and I appreciate the honesty. They really have a love-em or hate-em sound, and its not for everyone. And thats chill. My favorite albums from AJR are actually The Click, Ok Orchestra, and NeoTheater, in that order (I honestly cant stand most of The Living Room and only like maybe three of the songs on that Album so I dont count it). I honestly enjoy that they improve with every album they come out with, how they are always getting better than they were before. And one of my favorite aspects of the band is actually all the weird and crazy production tricks and samples they incorporate into the music. But I can understand the tonal dissonance or not enjoying the lyrics for some of the songs or not liking the Overtures. Those are all pretty fair reasons to not enjoy the music. Great review!
I myself am an AJR fan, and I just want to say, I'm really happy with how you did this video. Most people do nothing but clown and hate on the band, but I'm really glad that you not only gave fair criticism (gave valid critiques, and also was fair to the whole band in general), but made it clear that just because you didn't like most of their stuff, doesn't mean other people can't like them either. Everyone usually treats AJR like they're the worst thing in the world, and get really aggressive with their music, like that Spectrum Pulse review of "The Click" you showed before. It hurts more for me considering they're like, one of my favorite bands, and "Neotheater" is my favorite album, not just from them, but just in terms of music in general. So to finally see someone who, while might not have liked their music all too much, didn't treat them like they're such a nuisance. Honestly wish more people like Brad Taste In Music and ARTV were like you in that kind of way. Not only that, but this video was really funny too, which helped a lot too. I really liked this video for all those reasons. I'll have to see more of your other videos for sure, especially from this series.
Congratulations on having your video being featured on AJR's latest music video. That was how I found this video. As an AJR fan, I appreciated the critiques even though I enjoy their music.
I know it's been a while, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on The Maybe Man, to me, it feels the most personable and marks their growth as people and a band
I heavily disliked all their previous albums but I fully agree. I went into The Maybe Man expecting to laugh at all the baffling production choices like their other work, but I ended up liking a lot more songs than I expected. Hell, the Dumb Song is a song I’ve had on repeat all year.
@@jakegibbard honestly, seeing the maybe man tour solidified me as a fan! I had only half listened to it at first, but now I have most of the songs memorized 😂
Yeah I'm firmly in the "hate em" camp. My best musician friend loves them though, and surprisingly we've never fought about it. I get why he likes them, he gets why I don't. But anyone who uses the whole "it's good music to turn your brain off to" excuse gets no respect from me. Couldn't that just be any music? If I have to turn off all qualifiers to think it's good, isn't that just admitting it's bad? Just don't be embarrassed if you like them. Own it. That's what I'll respect.
For me its that time amount of shit going on actually distracts me from what I'm doing, I got to the gym and pump "break my face" cause it has dumb lyrcs, annoying mushy sounds and is generally loud but thats what I WANT, I also listen to songs like my play cause they're genuinely nice to my ears but it's definitely a "you like it or have to hate it"
As a massive AJR fan, thank you for giving them a try I started listening to them a lot before Neotheater came out, in my sophomore year of high school, which maybe a reason why I love their music so much. Its targeted toward my age group, especially Neotheater when it released. The songs all feel relatable and have a clear message to it, even if the message doesn't hit with me on every song (Beats, Wow I'm Not Crazy, The Entertainment's Here). Neotheater is probably my second favorite album ever, and I thank you for giving it a listen, even if it wasn't for you My top 5 AJR songs 5. Adventure Is Out There 4. Weak 3. Next Up Forever 2. Way Less Sad 1. Dear Winter
I love AJR personally. I don’t really like any of the songs from before The Click besides I’m Ready, Pitchfork Kids, and More than Friends, and that stems from I’m Ready being so incredibly fun-sounding to me and I *love* the bassline in that song. I’m genuinely impressed almost every time I hear it. My favorite AJR album is definitely Neotheater. Next Up Forever is awesome in my opinion (except the virgin line, but eh, I can ignore it) and also Don’t Throw Out My Legos is often refreshing to me when I haven’t heard it in a few days because I love the chopped up orchestral start. I also like the concept of going away to college, especially because I’m going into high school really soon and am having some similar thoughts. Also, Birthday Party is neat. I like how it’s just basically giving a “screw you” to all the stereotypes and negative qualities of society from a sarcastic lens that is supposed to be innocent. It’s just a cool concept to me, and when you pair that with the chorus (which I love and find the beat to be awesome) it makes for a song I enjoy each time I hear it. The Good Part from The Click is a nice one too. I really like the lyrics in that song and as you mentioned the chord progression in the background is just great. I also like the vocals in that one a lot... idk why I just really like hearing those melodies with Jack’s voice. And to close it off, OK Orchestra is pretty interesting. Some of that album I dislike and some of it I like/love, just like the others. I would have to say Adventure is Out There is an absolute bop and is my favorite of that album. World’s Smallest Violin, Three O’Clock Things, and Christmas in June are also really good imo. However, there’s songs like Joe that I just straight up dislike. Tbh even the first line is “I believed in God back in 8th grade” and I’m just like bruhhh I’m an 8th grader who believes in God and I’m not about to bash on my own faithful tendency. Also the beatboxing in that song sucks imo, and then the melodies aren’t even that good. Idk I just don’t like that one at all. The Trick is a song I think I could get behind if I came to like the vocal effect thing. Other than that I like it a lot but as of right now the vocal effect is turning me away from it. Christmas in June, however, is great. I love the concept of that song and I think the melody sounds great with Jack’s voice. I also like the instruments and beat in that song a lot. So yeah, I’m a huge fan of AJR, even though I do agree their music is unorthodox and a lot of it isn’t for me. That’s my take! :P
Huh. Years ago I listened to The Click a few times and thought it was alright and never really thought about these guys again and had no idea they were so hated. Weird.
I love their songs a lot. AJR has helped me through a lot of shit in my life. I do agree that their songs can be very weird- but AJR is really a “love it it hate it” kind of band.
I am still in college now and I relate to a lot of their songs about growing up, moving out, anxiety and insecurities. It makes sense for a grown up to see the lyrics as cringe because they already passed that stage of life, but for me it is endearing and relatable. Not a lot of bands sing about this in a very unique and specific way as AJR does and I love them because of it.
I always thought sober up(also my favorite song by them) sounded almost like a FUN song. Not like fun as in entertaining but as in by the band FUN that won the Grammy over frank ocean
During 3 O'Clock Things, when it says youtube was an option, they were talking about watching RU-vid videos to learn everything instead of spending money on college. That's why they'd see adds.
AJR is one of my favorite bands. I really liked this video. I’d seen a lot of people give empty criticisms of the band, so it’s nice to see someone go over the flaws the band has. Great video man.
I had only heard 4 AJR songs before this video: "Burn The House Down", which I adore, and "100 Days", "Sober Up", and "I'm Not Famous", which are... fine. Sounds like that's about typical for this band.
@@bricksbybricks34legoandmor2 I think I disagree, I would say Weak is number 2 and Come Hang Out is number 3 but only because I forgot every single detail of how it sounded. I hate good part because of the unlistenable shrieks on the chorus and Bud Like You is a irish drinking song with a spokestep bridge and trap production. It's top 5 worst easily
Struggling to comprehend where i had heard Overture before having never listened to ajr befor... Turns out it was in the trailer for Disney Pixars Soul...
I don't think it's music to turn off your brain to, but I will say it's music to just emote to. You just feel it. These songs are like exploring your emotions at therapy set to music.
As a *certified* AJR hater, I have never understood how people accuse them of being boring. God, I wish I found them like that. It would be better than excruciatingly bad. I hear so many people criticize them for being "forgettable", and "generic", however, I'm going to have to agree with the fans on this one. They do have a unique sound and it is interesting, it's just that this "unique and interesting sound" makes me want to commit arson on everything in a 5-mile radius
I’m curious to know which songs make you feel this way and what other artists you listen to? You seem civil and most AJR haters will commit a satanic ritual on any AJR fan they meet.
@@elephantcubed4133 It’s interesting to me how some people can despise AJR for something while others love them for those same reasons I hear a lot of people say that though in a lot of ruder ways. Usually saying stuff like the fans are i’m 14 and this is deep kids. I personally think their songwriting is a step forward in the industry, though you can’t walk with just one step lol. I do think their lyrics are flawed but at least to me it doesn’t feel formulaic like a lot of popular “artists” who have teams of professionals. If I want to listen to meaningful lyrics I’ll listen to Bo Burnham but AJR’s lyrics are a bonus for me. Some of their songs are good lyrically imo like Dear Winter, Finale (We Can’t Wait To See What You Do Next), and Humpty Dumpty. Oh and as a composer myself I relate to Come Hang Out a lot. I feel like I’m missing out on things because I spend all of my time writing music. I think Netflix Trip sounds good though the lyrics are a bit parasocial lol. Birthday Party is an all time favorite from me personally. It’s weird to hear you dislike it to that extent. The brass on the chorus is great along with the lyrics to me. The weird sound effects are usually satisfying to me like in Beats. To me it’s like dissonance that does make sense. The most clever sound effect I’ve heard from them is in 3 O’ Clock Days when Jack says “It’s kind of funny how you vote for someone to vote for someone to vote for someone, and then you might end up with someone evil. But you say, that he means well.” And then an elephant noise plays. I hear a lot of people saying deep fake. While some of those songs do come across that way like Weak, they are open about it. Sometimes they’re not writing about themselves but instead trying to be relatable to others and when you yourself are not going through a struggle that can easily become detached so I totally get that. I’ve also heard a lot of people say Jack’s “shrieks” are weird which I get they do sound weird. I think they sound good in Break My Face. By default AJR is my favorite band because I don’t like any other bands lol. My biggest issue with a lot of “artists” is that they aren’t artists. They are only performers who have a ton of composers and lyricists who write for them. As a trumpet player, I have a bias for trumpet music so that is one of the main reasons I like them. I will say though that the trumpet chorus in Three Thirty pisses me off. In the Overture you can hear it unfiltered and it sounds really good. But in Three Thirty they throw in a bunch of shitty filters on it and it sounds like an auto-tuned fart. You also mentioned not liking their brass sections but that’s another main reason I love them. I especially love their live orchestra sections and wish they would make an actual orchestral album. They had an orchestra perform OK Overture and it sounded like it was written for an orchestra. Also I hate how their tours are just raves. When I see videos of their performances it seems like a bunch of drunk college kids who don’t care about the art who are just there to scream and aggressively wave their hands. Anyway, it was nice to hear what you had to say. Though the majority of the artists you mentioned I’ve never heard of so if you have any suggestions I’d love to discover some new artists.
@@elephantcubed4133 thanks! I’ve heard plenty of people say AJR are copies of Jon Bellion and before I had never heard the name. And as for Twenty One Pilots, the only song I’ve heard of them is Stressed Out. I’ve never been a big fan of the song maybe because it’s overplayed, but lyrically I thought it was great. I don’t think Birthday Party ripped it off though because AJR has a consistent theme of fearing growing up. I’m not able to listen to music at the moment but I looked up the lyrics for Stressed Out and they are way better than I first thought. Thanks a final time for being civil, trying to be helpful, and not bashing my existence for my taste in music. :)
As someone in the Gen Z group I feel like AJR speaks to us. I’ve recommended AJR to my friends and they’ve all loved it. Their songs and lyrics holds our “we’re sad but we’re gonna laugh about it instead” and slight nihilism Gen Z is notorious for. A Jon Bellion x Twenty One Pilots vibe if you will.
As someone who is part of Gen Z I feel as though AJR is the product of marketing execs trying to appeal to me and be "cool". Fuck that ima cry hard and listen to earl sweatshirt
As an AJR fan, thak you for not just being trash like 99% of people reviewing them. And her's the two reasons why I like the band : To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Livibg room, I feel like they were looking for their own style and it does sounds too shnthetic for me sometimes. That's why I love the rest. Because AJR sounds like AJR and no one else. They have this very unique (to me) orchestral yet computerish sound. You can hear they are just having fun with music and try to epxeriment. For me personnaly I feel like most of the music in the radio is too predictible. Even during the first listen you can tell all of what's going to happen before the end of the song. This does not apply to the Met brothers (and others artists too but that's not the point), you never know what to ecxpect from them. Of course it's not always perfect and it can be too much sometimes but I can not be bored listening to them because I'll notice something more at each listen. They are just fun to listen to, they make me (and I know I'm not the only one) feel good with their songs. Even though most of their lyrics sounds dumb whennyou first listen to it, it sounds deeper. For me it's like all these "childish" behaviours and messages that we forget and mock as adults but are in fact true. Take Way less sad for example. Saying I'm not happy but I'm way less sad sounds a bit childish. It's like saying "I don't like it but I don't hate it" . So adults would ignore that. But if you really look at it... Cebrating each step, being optimistic is not stupid nor childish. It just makes sense. We should do it just like we should think that 100 bad days make us grow and that one day we'll look back at it and tell the stories about those 100 days. I like this contrast. It's like spreading a mesage in a chill way. So there it is. I'm totally cool with people not liking them but I think they receive a lot of unfair hatred. I mean people not actually judging them bug mocking them with memes and no analysis. I've also heard a lot of people say that they have no talent which is completely wrong since they can all sing quite well and play multiple instruments (I wish I could be that untalented...). So thank you for being fair and honest. Let's just all do what music is made for, appreciate and share (by the wah if you have some soft metal artists to recommend me, I'll take it !) That's all, thank you if you read all of this. I apologize for the insane amoubt lf mistakes I probably did, I am not English and it's 2am. Have a beautiful day !
Completely agree with you bruh! I like maybe three songs total on The Living Room. Cant stand the rest of that album. But I love the rest of their music wholeheartedly. No matter what their songs are always some kinda vibe and I can find a song to fit whatever mood Im in with no problem. Its really rare for me to find an artist with a body of work I completely love. For AJR I come out at around 85% and thats still big for me. So I stan the Met Brothers hard.
As a proud member of the ajr community who’s favourite song is click and top 3 favourite songs are Netflix trip and two songs that weren’t mentioned. This video hurt my soul. But now I do finally understand to a degree the dislike.
okay so my favorite AJR song is 100 bad days because my senior year competition season, we made a slideshow/video thing with memories from that season and it just makes me think of one of the happiest parts of my life.
