Simon plays so perfectly...on the solo he plays those fast swinging notes, rightly realizing that they are not precise quadruplets, but a triplet with the last note repeated... he's just amazing... also his works before deep purple...
Simon McBride is a perfect fit. Brings out the signature notes of Blackmore with the modern shredding of today's super guitar players. Can't wait to buy a ticket and see Deep Purple again.
Cruising back in the 70s in my 427 with this song blasting on the 8 track with amp powered 6 by 9 rear deck speakers is an experience in my life I will never forget. Sure made me feel like a Highway Star ! Long Live Deep Purple 🎸
Im sorry but i thought purple should have gave it up years ago, but Simon has re energized purple. Looks to me their having more fun then ever. Awesome.
Simon has moved DP back to its roots and done it better than anybody could’ve ever guessed. More basic guitar playing. Morse was good, but Simon is more rock. And the guitar sound is grear too! And Gillan sings better than ever! 🎸
It's probably the toughest job (and the greatest too) to take on Deep Purple after likes of Blackmore and Morse (who is the sickest player ever, Holdsworth may be another). The confidence it takes, love it!
McBride just revived this band in ways I knew was sadly needed for years..Morse never really fit. Sad for his situation with his wife's illness, tragic indeed..but if he were to not return, I for one would not be upset. I've played in DP tribute bands and done DP songs in all my cover bands (I am a guitarist) and have the deepest respect for Ritchie Blackmore and the legacy he established with DP..his signature tone and style were integral to the music, and IMO irreplaceable..Morse didn't seem to try, wanting instead to prove he is Steve Morse more than serving the songs. Not for me..McBride nails Ritchie's solo style to the letter, then serves up a shred of his own that left no doubt he's the dude..THAT is how it should be.
100 % Gary ...Morse is why I left the" deep cover purple band", his strumming was like I had my head in a vice and every Ritchie number he wrecked ,someone was turning the vice grip harder and harder , just couldnt listen ... Simon just released me ... on ya bloke... ;-) ...
@@Martsapso21 Ah Derr ...??? Cos your in a Deep Purple Cover band and fans wanna hear the good old songs ...??? Go to your dixie stick chokers and do your own thing dont bring down a band to your sub standard noises... IMHO ;-)
3:55 might be what you came here looking for, if like me, you just noticed Rick Beato dropped an interview with Steve Morse (awesome surprise! on 2023-12-29), you heard that Steve Morse stepped away from Deep Purple back in 2022 to take care of his ailing wife and also wondered...who replaced Steve since then? = Simon McBride. I pulled up Highway Star (this) first to check out his style. Nice thick Blackmore-esque tone but with a more modern technique. For those who just want to know if know if Simon can shred, he sticks pretty faithful to the original but then at 5:14 he briefly shows he can melt faces 🤟🥵 Cheers!
Morse's Sound, that i also quite disliked after he joined Purple, quite evolved over the years. And Since about "Now What" i have to say i really enjoyed his sound as well as his playing on every gig I intended.
First things first, let me make it perfectly clear that I love Steve Morse. I love Deep Purple with Steve Morse. Don't give me that no block more no Deep Purple b*******. I don't want to hear it. That said, a few years ago and I watched a video of Don Airey's band with Simon McBride, I thought to myself that as much as I love Steve Morse, Simon would be a wonderful fit. Then I saw those Ian Gillan Orchestra gigs with Simon on guitar. Again I thought what a good fit he would be. He is a good fit. He is a very worthy replacement for the mighty Steve Morse. I wish Steve all the best with however much time he has left with his wife.
