I love Jon Lord, and I can't think of a better alternative than Don Airey. I love the solos Don puts together and how he weaves various classical and popular pieces in them so seamlessly....genius.
@@lilylaw1517 Tony himself will tell you he doesn't do that much prog rock any more and has some arthritis that interferes with his fast lead playing. But more importantly TC is not a sideman or just a keyboard player. He's been a lead vocalist and captain of his own ship since the early '80s. I don't think he'd want this job.
@@ASoundofThunderBand I'm not taklking of the situation now but at the time of Jon's retirement. I'm fully aware of Tony's solo career having seen him live many times and when he works with Peter Maffay.
@@lilylaw1517 Fair enough. TC was probably physically more up to shredding some lead organ solos back then, but on the other hand wasn't that around the time he had cancer? Anyway, TC is certainly a much better songwriter than Don, but I still don't see him actually wanting this job. Too much of a time commitment for a project where he would be creatively stifled.
Saw this original Perfect strangers tour when the album 1st out and Mark 2 Deep Purple reunion in 1985 or so at Alpine Valley Wisconsin! My Wife/Drumer and my Mother went! Me Guitar my ma loves deep Purple! That was a GREAT Show! Love Purple and Covered many of their Songs in our Chicago Southside Rock Band ARG! ME Marty Guitar/Vocals!
At the Plymouth Pavillions, they had no barriers and Gillan told the security guys to let us come right up to the stage as soon as Jon popped up behind the Hammond. It was the last leg of the tour, I was able to shake hands with Jon at the edge of the stage and when I left for a last drink at the bar, Don Airey was sitting there and we had a quick chat. It was a very memorable evening!
Jon Lord. The MASTER of keyboard or piano. He, himself can make or break a song. Someone that none of us will ever witness again. Appreciate it now because when it's gone, it's gone! RIP Jon Lord.
First saw Deep Purple in the 70’s with Ian and original lineup. I still remember hearing those twin Leslie’s growling. This band remains, both foundational and remarkable.
Best performance of this song ever. Don Airey is a genious, but Jon Lord is the Lord of the Hammondorgan. Thank you! This was the perfect goodbye for Jon.
In 2010 Deep Purple came to Armenia to give a concert for the first time. It was very special event because they're very famous in Armenia and there are thousands of fans who wished to see the them. During 2 weeks before the concert organizers told that there will be something special in the show. Don't know why, but I imagined that something like this might happen. Although I knew that it was impossible, I thought it would be great that Lord came as a special guest to play a song. RIP Jon Lord.
Don Airey undoubtedly a great keyboard player, but then Jon Lord appears like a colossus above the Hammond. Many are the disciples of the B3, there is only one true master. The incomparable Jon Lord. A master musician.
I bought the Perfect Stranger cassette in 1984 when I was 15...I loved it then...& I still love it & still listen to it now!!! One of the Greatest albums & some of the Greatest music ever ever recorded!!! I never got to meet John Lord, I bet he is a very nice person & probably very approachable & personable...BUT HE LOOKS LIKE HE'D BE A BIG TOUGH S.O.B. John is a total ROCK GOD on the keyboards!!! R.I.P. John Lord!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
@@rosswilliam2472 I was in Wal-Mart last night here in my home town of Mobile Alabama & I noticed in the movies & CDs section that W.M. is now selling vinyl records that have been re-released & Deep Purple Perfect Strangers was one of the records I saw!!!
@@randymiller3949 That's awesome! Hopefully some younger kids will check it out and appreciate it. Maybe get them interested in some of the older stuff. You and I grew up during a time when some great music was being created.
Hehehe, maybe 30 years ago. We are all getting old. Granted I have to give it Ian and Lord, wow, beautiful. No doubt true friends and professionalism. Brings a tear to my eyes and then some.
Such a brilliant move to have Don Airey play around and have Jon Lord come out of thin air and play what I consider to be one of Jon Lord best contributions to the band. Damn, I wish he (Jon Lord) beats his health problems and do more guest visits like this! The band might be the grand fathers of Hardrock but I'd still prefer a heavy dose of grandpa over any of today's grand children :)
That's my favourite song and i don't care, if there is playing Jon Lord or Don Airey. They are both excelent. And I can't forget the best singer of all times - Ian Gillan!!! If God could sing, he would have Gillan's voice.
I know Don he's from my home town, lovely guy what I really like is they respected each other, played together on the same stage isn't that wonderful from two magical maestro's of piano and keyboards.
my God. how i miss this. This kind of music, stage presence, pure music with pure voice, instruments, rocks and talents. John Lord was/is the Keyboard Lord.
To this day, I keep DP close to my heart. They were amazing❣️❣️❣️ every configuration was gorgeous timely and meant to be at the time. Gillan being back full time until today is a gift (to me❣️). Doubtless they influenced Seattle bands BIG TIME bc I hear ALL of them ALL over the place within DP’s music. So THERE 🤷♀️🤪🙏❣️
I seen them a couple of months ago on the Long Goodbye Tour. Man for a bunch of old guys they can still hit one out of the park. They started with Highway Star and never let their foot off the gas pedal through the whole show!
Nice! I was gonna go to the same tour, but corona ruined it!! I'm still very anxious on if they're still gonna do it, but the tickets haven't been cancelled yet so i hope it's all gonna be good
A unique moment - the only time a departing member of Deep Purple has played alongside his successor.. Jon Lord's influence will never be forgotten, but Don Airey is a worthy succesor.
I have lived throiugh many decades and the 1970's were the best for me regarding rock music. Deep Purple were always top of the pile. Saw them many many times. Rest in Peace Jon.
And I'm looking forward to hearing that new album when it come out with a new Deep Purple album it's going to be a good when are long-lived Mister Jon Lord he has definitely been miss and he will never be forgotten long Mr.Jon Lord , Deep Purple still as good as ever better than ever
