I met him. He did this piece in our school chapel. Paul Flores is amazing. It was pretty funny, because while he was saying this piece, his son was doing a ballet. Anyhow, I love Paul Flores. He is a remarkable Spoken Word Artist.
Wow. Brilliant. There are so many poems about war, death, race, and regret, but each is so touching. Individually. "Willing to die to become a student."
damm! this hits me! i am a mexican immigrant i joined the military. this is a brown dream. i love this shit its so true a citizenship and an education. this is our brown dream
all i know is that paul flores said it all... we fight for are country where we are from or where we live no matter if are ancestors were brown or as red as natives or white as spaniards... mexicans have pride, hard headed some might say but on this side or that side of the border we will raise and take back what was rightfully ares.. we will give the natives there fare share and we will live in peace as we should of before are "four fathers" came to be. ASTA VICTORIA SIEMPRE VIVA LA REVOLUTIONS
ditto to what wutangx13 said... This poem is great. and for those ignorant people being completely racist with their comments, i ask you to please educate yourselves.
Than you forget about our ancestors who were here way back when. By our ancestors I mean the aztecs. They were on this soil way before and you're also forgetting the vikings.
really deep. I agree, because I know I'm not going to lose my life for citizenship even if I'm an immigrant. F*ck that "American dream" that most Americans don't have I'll go back home thank you. Fight your wars on your own, I'm not losing my life for those who hate me (kkk, white supremacists) to live free. God bless him. the meaning of this peom is don't join the army with the hope of citizenship.
History is exactly that. It's not about 'what IFS' and 'Could have beens.' Life can be a bitch for everyone even white folks in America. No one realistically has it that easy. We all suffer from prejudice and discrimination, guys.
@sammyjs1983 ,wow first thank you for serving but i don't think you understood what he was saying , he never blamed the government , all he talked about was how much Hispanic immigrants have to sacrifice to gain equality in America . I understand you wanted to serve but as You stated you came to the states illegally so the only option you had to get a college degree was the military . Fransisco also WANTED to serve JUST LIKE YOU .
Oh you mean when someone has an additional skill set that someone else doesn't have thus increasing the companies diversity and versatility. Yea thats not fair why would a company do that. Shame on them shame. So you can't be mad the individuals who obtain the jobs but those that are giving them out.
@DuarteLay i can tell you failed to comprehend my comment...either way theres no need to insult without purpose or without anything to gain!! if at all possible.
@sammyjs 1983 Our country is full of drugs and poor as shit. We owe like 14 trillion dollars which i think its sad that the word trillion is part of our common language.
im just gonna leave a part of the song mojado by intocable and ricardo arjona... seems the right place ... maybe change some close minded people Si la luna suave se desliza por cualquier corniza, sin permiso alguno, entonces porque el mojado presisa comprobar kon Visa ke no es de neptuno si la "Visa Universal" se extiende.. el dia ke nacemos y caduca en la muerte... porke te persiguen mojado? si el consul de los cielos... ya te dio permiso ill reply the translation
they come here for jobs, not for some "American dream" that only the top one percent of the population are living. Most Americans donnot live the American dream. For instance I'm an immigrant, but if you think I believe in the "american dream" think again. I came here to make money and go back home and chill, I'm not losing my life for not illusion such as the "american dream" whatever that meant.
u don't get it do u but then what can we say u are after all one of the privileged who work for absolutely nothing listen to the words he was a legal alien a resident do u comprende or better yet i should say UNDERSTAND
theres so many reason why Mexico is in shambles, but by implying that the blame is solely on the government, and instead of considering the most powerful imperilistic government is just north of it, then... sorry, for your lack of knowledge.
You and Fransisco have the same story , his ended with death yours with success thats the risk you both took to go to school . Fransisco was your brother in arms in a manner of speaking you should thank the poet for wanting tell his story not bash him and try to silence the story of fransisco
Here is a man, speaking sincerely about hs\is concerns on stage in a beautifully verbose manner, and yet the likes of you philistines say that "his problems are incomparable" or "we've heard it all before." What about those who haven't heard, or who haven't compared the problems yet? What about those still trying to grasp or gather information about current events and how they affect the people? At least your vile remarks will leave you a streak of infamy, notable only as "caustic criticism."
@naturewalkz you'd like to pay more for that burger? i take it you are a conservative. tea party? boycotting and protesting taxes? do NOT say you will pay more when your structure of political belief is based upon low ass taxes. you would NOT get payed $3 an hour to pick grapes all day. if there were no illegal immigrants, US workers would demand $8-$10 an hour to pick grapes. Down the economic line, that $7 difference between worker's pay would ammount to that burger being doubled.think bout it
I'm sorry I didn't know Native Indians had borders. All of the land belong to a greater being. The land was no ones to claim you received from the land and gave back to it. There are historical accounts of Mexican indigenous Indians trading with Native American indians. Please before saying something ignorant try to know a bit more history and knowledge.
While I agree with the message, this really isn't great poetry. I mean it's basically him just speaking with normal diction, but really fast at some times. When the message is that overt it takes away the poetry.
