i think adding a front locker would be no good as you still have a 1/2 ton engine to hall up a hill better off with a v6 petrol aluminiun engine 114kg with more power and a auto box maybe you use it for more torque things like towing heavy things like a house and they dont rev very high them cummings engine so you cant get a realy good run at the hill hard to get a all rounder engine
What kind of work actually goes into the install? A Cummins 12v double cab 110 is my absolute dream vehicle, I'm handy enough with a set of spanners but an engine swap really is beyond me. What kind of fabrication is needed? I assume custom length driveshafts and t-case mounts to account for the extra length of engine/box, I've heard the engine mounts themselves are just a case of moving the 200tdi mounts back a few cm. I assume the front suspension needs strengthened, did you have to strengthen anything else for the double weight engine? Finally, where did you source your motor and gearbox from? I know old DAF lorries are a good source but have no idea of the models. Thanks for reading, yours is a beautiful truck, I really hope to build my own one day.
Well the engine mounts arnt a problem now that Reece Myres has a kit, (you can find him and the Cummins landrover group on facebook) as well as an adapter plate and gear too suit a 1:1003 LT230 tcase. Custom length shafts and i upgraded the differentials and half shafts with ashcroft units. Im running mine on 14" air bags from a bus so my springrates are compensated.the engine only adds 200kg too the landy so its not that much. Engine and box can come from a daf.
Lovely 130 but painfully illustrating why diesels are no good at off road hill climbing or getting through long sections of loose ground, the usable rev range is just too small in each gear. I truely love the Cummins 6bt but you can do the same & more with just 3 litres of OM606.
