This is a very commonly asked question: how do you defend against aggressive, haymaker punches in a street fight? First remember that there are always a few different techniques and strategies, but here is one that I've found works best for me. It is a counter attack that combines a helmet guard block, and a Muay Thai upward elbow. Block the windmill punch while simultaneously landing a sharp elbow at the same time.
Get your fightTIPS shirt►full.sc/1hJEmr2
Remember that footwork is very important when preforming this self-defense move. You must commit and step in while blocking. Otherwise you won't be close enough to land your elbow strike. Don't let an aggressive fighter scare or intimidate you. Because the more they rush in, the harder they will run their face into your elbow!

Don't fight in the cold. I get attacked by dickhead dogs all the time running, and even asshole dogs don't like fighting in the cold. We just look at each other like, "it's too cold for this shit today. Let's call a truce until spring."

This block also works well against a kick to the head such as a round house to the head. For example in taekwondo when you can no longer move back from kicks and they go for a head kick this block can also be done and it is very effective. Even though you dont see this being done in taekwondo matches, it is a good technique for blocking certain type of head kicks.

How to defend against aggressive takedowns and get out of a headlock
@caius0558
@caius0558 10 лет назад
Have a good base always and be aware. In a standing headlock a good thing to do which im not sure but think shane made a video on is to simply squat and pick them up and toss them down. Nowbif tour in on on the ground make a frame walk your body away until his or her weight slides off you and come up on top. Its hard to explain look up some videos on it im sure theres plenty
@ChrisDyn1
@ChrisDyn1 7 лет назад
Easy, trip their legs up. They fall back and instinctively move to protect their heads, so you will always be out of the headlock. And while they're thinking 'what the hell is happening', you've planned that move and can now jump on them and punch away. I taught my friend that less than a week ago, and over the weekend (in a really shitty area to live in) some psycho ran up behind him, put him in a headlock and stole his 'gold' chain. So my friend tripped him up, got on top of him, pounded away and walked off victorious! I may have actually saved his life with that advice, who knows...

This is an excellent block, however if there are 2 opponents or your single opponent is a swarmer and your backed against a wall - try "bare handed" deckung or "pensador" block. The downside of that block is that you cannot counter and your lower body is totally exposed, but hey ... I bet Arthur Abraham would use it in a bare fist fight ;)

With boxing and other combat situations, You should be focused on what parts of their body moves to minimize your reaction time and make it faster because you’ll see a punch coming far before it lands. distance management and reaction time goes hand in hand. A lot of people will be wildly punching, but remember that they only have two arms and so do you. Anyways, I’d say that there are three places in which you can strike a person on the arms in a combat scenario from a punch and you can do that in a number of ways by using blocks coming from a guard and strikes, and the three places would have to be the fists, the forearms, and the upper arms (triceps and biceps). (However this is a defense against straight punches, not haymakers). When you see wild punches coming at you, you could do a number of things since they cannot kick while doing their punching. Weaken the core with a kick to the solar plexus or groin to bend the person downwards to help you work a technique or finish the fight, or use modern boxing guards/panantukan counters against wild punches and open the centerline for strikes and takedowns or work an angle if you choose to use the upper body (fists) to attack them depending on the punch type. With distance management, you know the distance In which your reflexes will actually see the punch coming and be ready to stop it using the training you’ve done to do that. People can actually throw punches out really far. To see this, just extend your arm out to its maximum distance, then push the scapula forward, then twist the hips and lean forward and you’ll see your maximum punching distance, doesn’t matter if it’s a haymaker, Jab, or cross. You can control the distance and respond. A good base won’t be weakened while controlling distance and stopping punches and you won’t get thrown over, if you do, it’s rolling techniques from there which should be effective and leave the other person either unconscious, or with broken limbs and torn ligaments. BJJ fighters are good at rolling, I’d recommend you learn BJJ if you live in a bad neighborhood as well. Now, go learn and go spar!

Elbows are more dangerous than a fist. Fists are actually fragile if you punch something or someone the wrong way... elbows are not. I also want to say avoid street fights at all costs, you could be a better fighter than Bruce Lee and that doesn't mean shit when you have a gun pointed at you. Be safe and smart

Any halfway decent fighter, even those throwing hook punches (haymakers whatever u wanna call them) isn't gonna run into your elbow. They also are not gonna let you leave your side completely unguarded like you are doing. All they have to do is throwing a hook and grab the back of your head to start punishing your ribs and chest with knees (which are what big guys like to do as well)

another quick tip from me not shane lol, is that at 2:41 you can see her body is wide open, but be warned this body shot is more of an exchange than anything, if she wasn't holding the dummy with her other hand you can see that it would leave your face wide open for her hook or left windmill to the face, but as you can see his other hand is there to elbow block it like he did the right one or parry it (slap it down). when you block the right one you would roll under her left and slip in a real nasty lead right hook to her body. #fightTIPS
