Tank, I'm not sure are you aware of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6dhSkfbHXJc.html. I saw it three weeks ago, and thought immediately you should see it, it gives a really deep view for Nightwish 2005 behind scenes instrument selection.
Out of the whole Deftones catalogue, this was one of the best possible choices to start with! Great discussion (as always!), too. For next steps, something else from 'White Pony' could be good (sounds like that is already in the works, though! 🤫 ). Some newer songs could be great; ”Beware" or “Diamond Eyes” would make for some good analysis/discussion. But at some point in the very near future, you must do "Rosemary." It is *incredible*! An amazing piece of music, and I think you guys would have a great time delving into the lyrics.
I just thought of a possible correlation from the fly in this song and the song on this same album called "Pink Maggot". If he's playing off of themes of connectivity, he may be referring to that Maggot's (child) metamorphosis into a fly (adult). His character could be a sociopath who enjoyed controlling the girl and had no empathy toward her pain that he looked at it as pulling the wings of a fly (something he cares nothing about). In other words, she is his play toy and he feels he can do what he wants to her and she has been set back in her mental state by the abuse.
Thoughtful girlfriend. My interpretation is a little different. He made his girl into a junkie by doing a lot of drugs w/ her. Burned her out, & drained potential (like those depicted in the video). Laughed at her behavior at the time because of how she lost control unlike him. But became guilty in retrospect & this was his catharsis. Deftones are still making great music all these yrs later. Just put out their new album yesterday & it may be their 2nd best after White Pony. Treat yourselves to a reaction to Spell of Mathematics or Pomepji.
Not heard that song before, but the video was pointing in the direction you explain here. I think you are right. I thought they would touch the drug use track as an alternative.
The lead singer has stated in a very old interview that the song is actually about teen fans and what went down after concerts. How he feels bad about it. Innocents lost and regrets.
@@scottspears9347 Right? And then there’s atmospheric black metal… it’s literally in the name there. Doom metal is also very atmospheric I’d say. Although in my opinion Deftones feels more euphoric to me, but I’m also a little bored of TOOL rn, played them a bit too much the last few years.
Great reaction and interesting interpretation. I would highly suggest checking out songs from their new album. Deftones- The spell of Mathematics. Deftones- Genesis Deftones- Headless Deftones- Pompeji Deftones- Ohms
Oppa, another journey to the past! Nineties, grunge, MTV...A lot of great music I've grown with back there. The dark and depressive athmosphere of the video greatly syncs with the song, it reminded me a lot of stuff to check, like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Chris Cornell, Marylin Manson...
If you want to climb a mountain, wrestle a bear, or jump in a WWE ring you'll have the energy to do it after listening to Unleash the Archers - Awakening.
I get what Alena was saying, there probably is a certain sonic similarity... because Deftones were such a massive influence on all of the early-2000's alt-metal bands, including Three Days Grace.
