We are Brad and Alena and we are taking a journey through metal. Brad is a life long metal fan who wants to introduce Alena to the wonderful world of metal, as well as explore new metal himself. We like to analyse the music and visuals in as much detail as we can and particularly enjoy lyrical analysis.
Scott Ian writes their lyrics, even though he isn't the singer. Scott Ian wrote this song about his girlfriend, now wife, Pearl. Pearl is the adopted daughter of Meatloaf. Scott wrote the song about being on the road, and wanting to return to his Safe Home, Pearl.
This song is my teenhood. Among others. This is a legendary tune, you have no idea. Teenagers got drunk, fucked, and pregnante to this tune. On the rocks of some godforsaken rock island in the middle of the sea, 15-20 years ago. Among other tunes. You have no idea. No idea. Many other tunes were played during such impregnations, but this was one of them.
Hi Brad! It's EB at Kfm in Cape Town. I'd love to interview you on my show. Our producer emailed you. We used the email address on your RU-vid page. Is that address still correct? Please let us know
Alena nailed the meaning of the song to answer the question is the songs are written from a Pagans perspective, based on pagan world view and the battle between the Saxons and the Vikings. Very common theme in Norway a lot of Norway, not sure of the actual faith of the people in the band though they could be pagan or athiest though they have never said either way. But plenty of pagans like them and consider them part of pagan culture s they at least don;t offend pagans but Christians often hate DImmu Borgir.
I love listening to the first 15-20 seconds of Meshuggah songs, tops. I'm with Alena.. they're too repetitive and almost monotone. They come up with a heavy riff and you're waiting for it to really take off but it just goes on & on.........
Hi! Welcome! Small suggestion, I know everyone's personality is different, but some more "reaction" will bring you more followers. I know you are loving what you hear, so show it on your face and body movements as you watch. How you not move or at least, nod with the music. You seem really cool. Let us see it!
Silvera or Stranded would perhaps be better songs to start with, idk. It's fucking Gojira, everything is good! But if she doesn't like metal those are more "mainstream" if you ask me :)
People ... including me ... mesmerized by Floor's singing, but the bass in this song is equally lovely. Without those lovely flowing bass lines this would be just another song.
It's is Jesus's determination to forgive or not. I am bound by no such rules. I do not believe in forgiveness. I do believe in healing but it will not be at any hand of the wicked.
Awesome Reaction! I loved how well she grasped the songs meaning! I never get tired of seeing the look on peoples faces when they realize that voice is coming out of Tatiana!
the difference between Tarja and floor is that Floor is telling a story and lives the song so much more and i am not against Tarja but floor brings a very the sad feeling that the song needs
This is one of my top faves of Riverside. One other thing, this song is from an album that tells a whole story. It has a point to it, but to understand the story in all, you have to listen to the album. In fact, it's actually a trilogy of albums... Out of Myself, Second Life Syndrome, and Rapid Eye Movement. I've always felt that it's a relationship with himself. There are some about meeting someone, following them, building a relationship, fighting, breaking up... But about this amazing person he wants to be and doesn't like the old that he was. He is a gamer, so you may be right about that too. A lot of references made to games and the characters and avatars you create and how other players see you, not knowing the real you. I love Riverside.
this song is about a stalker killing the girl he is infatuated with because he can't have her, but in his mind she belongs to him and she just won't see that. it's the ultimate solution to him to make her his. it's pretty obvious with that context especially if you've listened to pt 1
sitting the vocal back in the mix serves many purposes: it makes the music the dominant force (and sound even heavier); it pulls you deeper into the sound in search of meaning; it makes you want to hear it again, and again; it is intriguing. the meaning is as always open to interpretation, but the version i have on a vhs in my loft ends with a title screen that says something like 'suffering should be creative.' the video and lyric suggest that over-stimulation of any kind (note the couch potato baby switching off once the electricity is pulled) is harmful, and that human contact is the way forward for our healing and evolution. the beings together at the end of the clip have more definition, they are literally becoming more human through simple interaction. that's my take. good reaction to a seminal song from one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen. peace.
Makes me incredibly emotional when they sing the "fallen from grace / leaving you behind" knowing it's about the death of his sister and the inability for him to ever convey his feelings to her. The mention of losing his nails is when he actually attempted to dig to her, while having a psychological trip, thinking she was still alive.
I just thought of a possible correlation from the fly in this song and the song on this same album called "Pink Maggot". If he's playing off of themes of connectivity, he may be referring to that Maggot's (child) metamorphosis into a fly (adult). His character could be a sociopath who enjoyed controlling the girl and had no empathy toward her pain that he looked at it as pulling the wings of a fly (something he cares nothing about). In other words, she is his play toy and he feels he can do what he wants to her and she has been set back in her mental state by the abuse.
