From Wikipedia:
DeLand is a city in the U.S. state of Florida. It is the county seat of Volusia County. The city sits approximately 34 miles (55 km) north of the central business district of Orlando, and approximately 23 miles (37 km) west of the central business district of Daytona Beach. According to the City of Deland's website, the Florida Bureau of Economic and Business Research estimates Deland to have a population of 34,851 as of 2019. It is a part of the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach metropolitan area, which was home to 590,289 people as of the 2010 census.
The city was founded in 1876, and was named for its founder, Henry Addison DeLand. DeLand is home to Stetson University, Florida's oldest private college, as well as the Museum of Art - DeLand. The DeLand Municipal Airport serves as an uncontrolled general aviation reliever airport to commercial operations at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and Orlando International Airport (MCO).
The City of DeLand was officially incorporated in 1882, and became the county seat of Volusia County in 1887. It was the first city in Florida to have electricity. According to city officials, minutes of the first City Commission meeting in 1882 show the city decided to create a seal with the emblems of "Faith, Hope and Charity," namely a cross, an anchor and a heart.
The city seal was briefly the object of a controversy in 2013, when the national group Americans United for Separation of Church and State sent the city a letter in which they argued that the seal unconstitutionally promotes Christianity, thus allegedly breaching the First Amendment Establishment Clause. The controversy faded after the city refused to change the seal.
During the 1920s Florida Land Boom, fine examples of stucco Mediterranean Revival architecture by native architect Medwin Peek and others were constructed in DeLand. Many of these buildings have been handsomely restored, including the restored Athens Theatre.
Since 1992, the city has hosted the DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts, a two-day event held annually in the historic downtown area on the weekend before Thanksgiving. As of 2009, the event has an annual attendance of more than 50,000 during the weekend.

I appreciate that you went off the beaten path. It's nice to a bit of the neighborhoods in the area. It paints a clearer picture of the place. I'm well acquainted with Woodland Blvd at this point so this new perspective is most refreshing. Thanks! 👍

The best thing about DeLand is "Steve's Downtown Music" I've been going there since the 80's when it was called "Side One"🤘\m/

Mike I just found your channel today, and can't thank you enough for your beautifully shot, clear and informative videos. My mother is getting older & lives in Orlando. I have to find a place to live within an hour's drive from her to be near enough when she needs me, but far enough from Clermont/Orlando area that I don't end up wanting to end it all:)) To go from Upstate NY in the Hudson Valley to Central Florida is, well, to put it gently; terrifying! I live a very modest life up here in NY, but almost every town & home have character, wood floors & shutters. Everything I see online so far are lifeless, flat stucco with cheap aluminum framed windows & worst of all; 16x16 square tiles in living rooms! Anyway, I wish I could be closer to water, but of course she's smack in the middle where it's an hour & a half in either direction. If by chance you know of any Central Florida towns that aren't just comprised of box stores along both sides of highway, that you've seen & enjoyed in your travels, please let me know! For now I'm going to scour your channel to get a sense of any areas that might be close enough in distance, but if there's a hidden gem you've passed, I'd love to hear about it.🙌

I'd probably say take a look at the Mt. Dora, Eustis, and Tavares area. Those towns looked a little more interesting but weren't too far from Orlando.

@@MileageMikeTravels You are so kind to take the time to answer. And I looked at Mt. Dora because of your video & found a beautiful vintage little house! Of course I won't get it because I still have to dismantle my life up here in the next few months, but it gave me such hope to see something really great looking, that looked well cared for. It's 835 east 8th avenue if you're curious to see what its looks like. I'm actually frustrated because I know it won't be easy to find something like it again, but maybe!

Me and my gf are thinking of moving here next year, what do y’all think? Is it particularly fun or exciting? Looks safe and quiet and I like that it’s close to the shore. Just not sure if it’s a place with much going on

It’s close to Orlando so you don’t have to go far for entertainment. The city itself looked quiet though.

@@MileageMikeTravels Man, a 45 min drive though? Might just pay a little extra rent and live in Daytona

I live here, it's a nice friendly town, this is a college town so their are a few bars and restaurants downtown and the Athens Theatre has some great bands come there, the beach is only 25 miles east, 30 minutes drive, and New Smyrna is a cute little beach town to with quite a few bars and restaurants too. If you go west 45 mins to Mount Dora another fun little town with festivals and many restaurants and shops.

The "downtown drive" would be Woodland Blvd passing Stetson University. You are on a bunch of back streets and offshoots. Boring (and deceptive).

Florida is such a boring state - everything looks the same - no hills, no mountains - thanks though
