Simon Forsyth Hmmm... what you're using to demonstrate "the difference" can simply be explained by the dry/wet balance.. I think what you are demonstrating here is just a track delay feature of the Kronos rather than a generic "difference between echo and delay" Delays and echos will behave almost exactly the same depending on settings.. The main difference(as far as algorithms are concerned) is that "echo" models tend to replicate early analogue repeat effects which used tape or primitive analogue circuits and so the repeats will tend to be shorter and have a more "Lo-fi" quality about them.. Delay algorithms will tend to be more "hi-fi" and often offer much longer delay times as well as "tap' and filtering options in the more sophisticated ones
