The zoom is really a very good pedal with incredible capacity for its price. Placed in the effects loop on her pedalboard she works really well. I have 1 year and I do not get tired. It must be cleared all the original presets because it is the right to give an example and start from scratch. I made 30 presets including 5 special pink floyd etc ... In concert you can easily and easily change presets with the feet. Buy it really
Thank you for the video. I came here for the Line 6 and Eventide comparison, and didn't even care about the Zoom pedal. But... The Zoom pedal sounded the best out of three by far! It had the most organic sound, and the differences between delay types were most noticable. Line 6 overall sounded the worst. And I have to repeat that before the video I came with a mindset that Line 6 will sound the best, and that Zoom is not "a serious multi-effect company". I don't even like how Zoom looks lol. But it is clearly the best pedal here. Thanks again
Eventide every time for the sheer diversity of the different delay options, if you don’t have one you don’t know what your missing, these are the best effects in the industry bar none.
Me too, positively surprised by Zoom and negatively by Line 6 and even by the H9 in some cases although I consider it the best disregarding the price gap.
I've just borrowed an HX Stomp for a few weeks. Was expecting it to blow away my old MS-50G, but to be honest I prefer most of the time-based effects in the Zoom (which I use sparingly, as I have dedicated reverbs and delay pedals). FWIW I don't use any amp modelling, just effects and EQ. The Zoom HD Hall excels as an always-on first reverb IMO, and the Mod Delay is simple and just works well for me (I also had a really hard time replicating it with a Source Audio Collider). They do sound different with all effects bypassed; the MS has a slightly more "scooped" sound that works really well with my instrument, while the HX sounds more present in the 1k-2k range to my ears. It may just be that I'm used to the Zoom (have been using them since the G2 days), or that my preamp affects them differently. The HX has a lot going for it, the display and routing options are really great. And it does sound good. If I could get that basic sound just right, I'd be completely sold.
Thanks for very nice review and using same loop inputs each time. I landed here because I’ve been looking at the Zoom and Line 6 pedals in the review. In my opinion some have negative bias towards Line 6 because of the unaffordable Helix platform most hobbyist could never justify purchasing. Eventide is obviously the best of the three and almost three times the price too at around $399 entry level, so it should be. I don’t hear enough difference between Line 6 and Zoom in this review to make me choose one or the other from a sound perspective. Either would make a nice addition to any pedal board. I personally would prefer the controls, display and larger size of the Line 6 I think. I’ve owned a G3 Zoom, so familiar with the functionality of the Zoom products.
Hi do noise! Was just wondering if you checked out the reddit megathread (1, 2, 3) for ms70cdr patches. Would you consider posting your custom patches there?
The Zoom G1Xon has the same identical engine and the MS-70/50/etc. but includes some rhythm patches and has a looper. Oh, it's usually the least expensive of this bunch too when buying used.
I use my ms50g in the loop of my uberschall with dual ZNR gating and the HD Reverb Algorithms and some delays and I find it to sound very good. I love the tape delay in the zoom…so sweet. All that said I have been gassing for a Strymon timeline or boss dd 500
Hi! Thank you for this comparison! I just bought the zoom pedal, but I have a high pitched noise at around 5.5 khz. It's subtle, but annoying. With power supply or batteries alike. Do you have this issue?
juno6 yeah I had it a couple of times. I don’t know how/why it happens. I tried two different isolated power supplies. It is generally not very loud but becomes more noticeable when I turn the levels up. It is ok with clean sounds at lower volumes, as you can tell from my videos.
@@DoNoise thanks a lot, that's what I needed to hear. I wanted to use it in my studio for synthesizes, but I honestly can't stand it anymore. I'll return it. The effects themselves are great.
This is from the A/D convertors being so close to the power supply internally, and non-isolated. Clean power helps a little but otherwise it's kind of inherent with the design... A real shame
To make CDR or any multi fx sound better, you could add a Keely 30ms Doubler pedal to widen the sound if you can't on the unit itself. This will give you more stereo sound. It is the missing link with most sounds.
@@DoNoise That is a good alternative. I am interested in the Zoom pedals but what is the difference between them all? There is Zoom , MS-50g, MS-70CDR, MS-100BT, G5n etc. Do they all have the same effects after firmware updates?
The Earth Speaks almost the same with the Multistomps. I don't know about the G5n. You can find the effects list for each pedal on the Zoom website. Multistomps differ in their connectivity. 70 has stereo in/outs, 50 has mono in stereo outs but has amp models and drive effects, 100 has Bluetooth instead of USB port.
I use an always on EP Booster at 18v right after. It really takes the coldness out of the Zoom. I can't explain it, but it just makes everything better. A subtle optical compressor might have the same effect.
about the hx stomp, do the delays ping pong (besides the legacy models and of course, the ping pong more from the dl4)? I can't find that info anywhere. I watched some videos where, in the menu, you select between mono or stereo but is there an option for ping pong delays in all algorithms such as digital, tape and so on? thanks!
jorcorex yes. Stereo delays have a "Scale" parameter which sets the ratio of left and right channels so you can set any delay to ping pong with the ratio you want.
@@DoNoise thanks for the info! So you can dial in true ping pong and not just subdivisions on each side? This changes things ahah I might have to start saving for the HX Stomp then... Thank for these videos, really like them!
Ever consider revisiting the HX Stomp? It has evolved so incredibly much since you made this video. Literally everything about it is better than 3yrs ago now, and I would love to hear what you can do with its new plethora of goodies.
I am using the HX Stomp almost daily and love how they keep updating it. I don’t know if I’ll make a dedicated video though. I might make new patches some time.
@@DoNoise To hijack this comment a bit. You've tested so many different delays and reverbs. How would you say HX Stomp stacks up against them? Currently, I enjoy using HX Stomp as my only "digital pedal" (mostly for reverb/delay and IRs, sometimes modulation) but I'm wondering if I'm missing out by not going with dedicated reverb or delay pedals instead.
@@Lynx33PLI love the HX delays. The reverbs are good but there are some pedals I like more. For live use I would just bring the HX Stomp to cover delay, reverb and modulation. I would probably use other pedals if I wanted to record with reverb. Also a side note: I see most of the top level comments but these comments under other comments are buried with no notifications. You can leave comments on the videos for better visibility.
Thank you. I like the Cosmos Echo a lot! Probably my favorite delay on the HX Stomp. I wanted to match the settings to a degree but I didn't try really hard to make them exactly the same. I think the biggest factor is the stereo image of the pedals, especially for modulated delay.
I’ve been “taste testing” the pitch shifting of the Boss GT-1000mini vs the Meris vs the Zoom CDR 70. I am coming from the EHX HOG v1. The Merris is still the winner, but being able to filter the high octave via the GT-1000 is what makes it solid. The Line 6 stuff has always been a fail at pitch shifting.
I still don´t understand why the over priced of the H9! Zoom MS70 is amazing, it does the job with less even better in some cases like the pitch delay.
Had both three pedals. As far for delay, H9 Is the best (vintage delay best Algo ever for delay pedal); Hx stomp vintage delay Is on the same league; zoom cdr has some great delay algos, not so great A/D converters, buy for 100 € Is Amazing. Sold h9, bought Hx stomp, kept zoom cdr😉
Is the signal to the H9 always going through the CDR ? I find that it always cooler the source sound a bit, since it is not a true bypass. I'm surprised we are not hearing a bigger difference in "dry" sound with the H9.
They are in the Stomp's FX Loop so when I'm showing the HX Stomp, they are not in the signal chain. When I'm showing the other two, the signal is going through both of them.
Thank you! I love the Zoom Multistomp pedals (It should be easy to tell if you check out my channel haha). I use mine a lot. They offer a lot for a great price. Some people have problems with the dry signal or have noise issues sometimes. I just accept it as it is and use it all the time.
Do Noise I’ve checked your videos before and saw the Zoom in the comparisons. I like mine as well, but sometimes I have that “snobby vibe” and wanna sell it lol.
Erick Lima yeah I understand that. It's not a particularly cool pedal and it's pretty ugly, but it gets a lot done! It is my favorite pedal for lofi effects. I think it is better than any other dedicated lofi pedal out there.
I genuinely feel like he didn't really push the effects on the stomp. He should've split the signal to really get those sounds out and not be muffled. That being said. The h9 sounds great
Eric Filsinger yeah, I don't have one unfortunately. Also, I specifically wanted to compare these 3 multifx pedals here and didn't include some of the other delays I had. It would be great to have the Timeline for other videos, though.
Do Noise i have the Timeline and miss the El Cap. I should have asked if the CDR70 has any tone suck in bypass? I’m thinking of adding to my board for some more modulation effects
Eric Filsinger I haven't noticed any tone suck but I hear a high pitched noise coming from the Multistomp from time to time, probably depending on the signal chain placement and overall volume.
Sorry but the Eventide wins hands down both on tonal quality and pure tweak ability of industry leading effects not just the delays, get two and your in sonic heaven.
Eventide has the best quality, zoom probably has the best value, depends on your priority. Honda civic will get you to work just as fast as a Ferrari when you're driving on the freeway at rush hour. But the Honda will never be the Ferrari.
Your technical comments align exactly with my subjective hearing, especially Zoom's good (but not quite as good as some dedicated competition) reverbs combined with many other pro-level effects are a bargain. Add in other underestimated effects such as compression, EQ, switching, etc and they're a marvel. They're also better supported with a larger community than many other pedals owing to their longstanding unified architecture across the range. instagram.com/p/CFs3cKqAEul/
