Yo brother, the difference in height will be much greater on an Iron as your standard shocks are something like 13.5 inches! About 2 inches more than standard 48 ones! Your iron would notice these shocks massively 👊🏻

I got the Burly's installed this morning! I have about 3/4" drop in the back. A bit less than what I wanted, but I can touch flat footed with knees bent instead of straight legged. It definitely feels lower and I don't bottom out on the dips anymore- wish I could say the same for the speed bumps! My stock shocks measured 11 1/4" eye to eye, btw...

It's a 2015. Yep, got it new- Feb. 2016; it had 5 miles on it. I ran the stock seat for the first 1000mi and then bought the Badlander 2-up. It's a good seat, but it still murders my tailbone after about 75mi. I had the same setup on my 2007 XL883L and could run a straight 600-700mi without any pain, so I'm thinking that putting forward controls on this one will remedy my butthurt! LOL! So much to do... so much to do... I'm loving those pipes, btw! I was looking at mine, and it looks like Harley welded the crossover tube to both exhaust pipes. No big deal, though- there's a ton of options for new pipes out there. And thanks to Delboy, I think I can confidently get them wrapped up myself!

Hi again mate, your stock shocks should of been 13.5 inches on a 2015 Iron. Now you've gone to 10.5 inches. You should be noticing a 3 inch drop. That's why I'm surprised you only got 3/4 inch drop. Also if it was your goal to have a comfier ride these Burly Slammers might not be your answer. They are a way stiffer shock with much less travel. As well as the height of your seat making a difference to how well you can get your feet on the floor the width of it plays just as big a part too. I have the Biltwell Sporty-8 which is very narrow. I don't know if you are looking to get your feet on the ground better but if you are, then this seat will probably help with that! As you know, it's a piece of cake to swap seats so when you need a 2-up ride you can throw your badlander back on. Take it easy mate, sorry if I haven't told you anything you already knew!

No news on my Dyna. In a big metropolitan area like the San Francisco Bay Area there's little hope to recover her. The thieves cased her, then planned, scheduled, and executed the theft in the middle of the night. They cut through the beefy padlock on the rear disk like butter. All very professional and evil! She's probably stripped and shipped to Costa Rica or somewhere by now. After a few weeks the insurance company will process the claim and a few weeks later I'll receive a $payment check for @ HALF of what she's worth. It's not a tragedy and I'm not crying about it, but it's a sad situation, and all-too-common, unfortunately. Thanks for asking! All the best to you and Penny!

Such a shame indeed, sadly this kind of crime has almost been decriminalized into a simple admin task for all conserved.. Even if you had a top of the line tracker and could pin point the bike....it'd be up to you to go get it.. and the kind of people who do this aren't a pushover when you arrive to collect...! Moonfleet41 on this bike, it would be a front end lift, but honestly I'm more into getting an older donor bike and hardtail frame, keep the 72 pretty much stock to retain value, then move it on when the chop build is done.

You wouldn't use the 72 as a donor then..?

No my friend, the bike was already very low from the factory... but if you had the full height 13" shocks on some Sportster, then yes, you would have to bend, or shorten the sidestand...

Harley items buddy.

You'll still need to use the same bolts as before so the thread fits... and the bushing holes in your shocks should be the same size right?... does your nearest bolt company not keep an equivalent if you took the old broken bolt in to them.. even if you had to cut it down,,?

Well HD used a 'step' bolt for this model. A member of XLForum pointed me to a place I could buy an aftermarket copy of the OEM and I ordered a set. Still would like to see a video on how you fab your own bushing for the permanent fix. Especially since a lot of us are riding older bikes that we aren't able to find OEM parts for anymore. Love the videos

On this video, you saw me slide a new bush in between the bolt and the shock mount, there is no need to fabricate this kind of thing, and nor would I do so, you can purchase these bushings from engineering companies, they just need the i/d and o/d and the length... they usually sell them in packs of 10 for a few £'s...

Howdy Del & Faulkner. Greetings from N.Z , I'm a few months away from the big 60 & have recently got back into riding after a 35 year absence.I got myself a "96" 883 Sportster & within a month of riding Have had the 1200 kit installed. Words cannot describe the feeling of elation I feel everytime I ride her. (thats every chance I get) Just been on a 600 km run in the weekend. The 883 was great, but having the 1200 installed is like the icing on the cake. Already had the Screamin' Eagle air filter & exhausts when I bought her. Just got the cylinders bored & bigger pistons installed.Very easily keeps up with the "Big Boys" & hits the ton with plenty to spare. Keep up the fantastic work Del, it's appreciated very much. Boots in the breeze & safe riding people.

Hi Faulkner, Sadly as with all the jobs we do, we need it to come up... we dont have an 883 to use as a bench bike, or the parts to use... it would take someone wanting to make that upgrade for the job to be ready to film.. happy to do it, but just dont have a subject..!!!! In the long long term, as this channel grows, we have a dream to open a proper unit, make it a three bench workshop with space for machinery and tools... then take on custom work for bikers... then video each job like its a simple fly-on-the-wall docudrama that viewers could just "eavesdrop on the daily life of a Bike custom shop".... but even with all the amazing support we get from the Patrons, we still just manage to run this garage and keep the bills paid... it will take a massive six figure investment to get that open and running....and we are saving hard, once a big enough deposit is in place... we'll have the means to go to a bank for the right loan and get things under way....... its only a pipe dream so far buddy... but it will happen in time as long as we keep working hard, and the viewers keep strong with their support..

The 2014 Iron and all other Irons don't have forwards they have mids buddy. My mrs has a 2015 Iron and her footpeg mounts are not the same as mine (although, they are now). If you buy forwards from Harley they come like mine were. Other suppliers may do them with the regular mount.

Yeah i know bacause i have a Iron. I ment if you get foward controls on a Iron they are the same as your 48.

Caleb Diamond Yea you can either do the mod that Del did for mine or spend another £50 odd quid for some adapters. You would think Harley would offer them with 2 options. Most people with an Iron for instance, when they buy forwards, they do not realise there pegs will no longer fit.

Hi Buddy... as far as i remember the shock mounting bolts are about 55Lb ft or 74Nm... but ad a dab of threadlock anyway, just for good measure... and you get the manuals for Harley only from the main dealer.. no other manual even come close..!

Yes buddy, its all in hand.. the last weight check was with just the tank in place, and no other bodywork... so i now have ot weigh the front Harley tank nose cone thingy... and the belly pan... then add that weight to the saved weight and make a new total...but ill finish all the bodywork (including the tail section) before i get the final new weight.... if i have even just zeroed out and added no more over the factory weight then ill be happy..

Moonfleet41 Makes sense ! Just spotted the figure at the beginning and thought it ca't be that now with everything bolted on... Should be under I reckon unless the tail is a beast !
