I do enjoy a starting a weekend morning watching your videos along with a cup of coffee and bacon sandwich. I just did all the bearings on my Hayabusa, pretty much rebuilt it again to be honest, but I have followed you for a while, as everyone I know will tell you, I am very funny about my own cars and bikes as I am an 'engineer' or something like that...😄 I always do all my own work, modifications ect, I HATE people touching my things and my attitude is that I feel if you want something done properly you do it yourself! But if there was ever a time I could not do things for myself and my bikes needed any work doing to them you sir are the only other living human on the planet I will ever trust to lay you're hands on my bike. 👍 Keep it up! Alot of people rely on you're tutorials and knowledge including myself as I love to learn new things and maybe other ways of doing mechanical things if I did not already know. All the best! -Ethen -Norfolk

Hi Ethen, oh my word, thank you so much for that wonderful gift of faith... I have to admit I feel mildly the same as you on that front, I prefer to work on my own stuff then I know where I stand... and I know that nobody's cut corners to make a bigger profit... so for someone to show that trust to me is an honour indeed mate, and it would always be a pleasure to work on an XJR lol

Makes me wonder what must the state of my bearings be on my 20 yo Copper/Silver busa with 92.000 klms. Guess it ought to be looked at but not sure can be bothered with all that work when its on the market looking for another owner. Think I'll leave it to next owner. Only had head stem bearing done once some 10 yrs ago. Being its sole owner in its whole life I guess they shouldn't be too bad as Ive always looked after the 'ol girl. But gotta make me wonder. Cheers Del great vid as per usual.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Sure thing buddy, I knew this would all come up for me with a 20yr old bike, mine has just 38k miles, but I think it's a 'heavy' 28k, and not the caring ownership of your bike... I guess if you just explain to any potential new owner that all the bearings, and seals, are original and that only the headstock bearings have been replaced, then at least they can make their own judgement!... thanks for your kind support buddy, always good to hear from you.

Your videos are getting more and more insightful because you are breaking jobs down into bite size chunks. I think the patience in doing that is admirable as people like me are learning a lot from it. So, thank you for that. Unfortunately, I have the street fighter setup on my ZX swingarm and I remembered you groaning a bit when getting those bearings out back in the day. Fun to come for me then. Now here's a bit of a confession and please feel free to flame me as much as you like. I just want to know if I should be worried. I decided it was time to re-grease the linkage bearings as was suggested in the maintenance schedule and because I figured, no one had touched those bearings ever anyway. So, after removing all the bits and pieces I proceeded to clean everything up with washing up liquid and degreaser, including all the bearings. I dried everything out, decided the needles looked ok and packed everything with copious amounts of grease. The question is, in my usual clean-everything-to-within-an-inch-of-its-life, did I invite rust and corrosion to eat those bearings? To be honest, I am still not sure whether I ended up thoroughly drying everything inside the linkages. The other thing I wanted to get your opinion on, I got myself a blind bearing puller set but a cheap one, albeit from a UK company (£40). It did not come with a bridge puller. So, I tried slide hammering the front wheel bearings out and managed to just rip out the puller every time despite expanding it so it sat absolutely tight. The question is, is the puller a piece of shite I should send back, or was I just expecting too much? I ended up buying some proper punches and a 2kg club hammer and drifting the bearings out. I have to add that they were properly stuck in there and still the original bearings so it was never going to be an easy job. Anyway, I'm sorry I'm always bugging you with such amateurish questions but I don't have anyone else I can turn to who I trust to be that knowledgeable. I also never expect a reply really because I know your life must be very busy. Anyway, hope you are getting some sort of dry weekend riding in. Best wishes to you and Penny. Great camerawork, as always. :)

Hey, Del, at 10:50, you slide the bearing onto the threaded rod, followed by the large washer. What size ID and OD is that washer and where did you pick those up? Thanks!!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 года назад
Hi Clint.. i "Made" those discs, cut them from some 5mm steel plate, the ID hole is just big enough for the M10 threaded bar, and the OD was about 60mm so they cover most wheel and head bearings, ! you can buy small chunks of steel plate on eBay pretty easy, and then just cut them from that mate. !

Blind bearing puller is the best investment I have made in tools. I used to be afraid to do my own bearings, after watching you and getting a blind puller I have now done every bearing on my Tiger 800. Finished the swing arm bearings yesterday, and I was wondering about needle bearings. I did the same (tight enough, but soft enough so I could still rotate), and I am getting more and more excited to finish my project! Thank you again so much for all these videos.

@@Moonfleet41 This week I finish my Tiger 800 XC project. I am quite proud of myself. First major work on a bike, done for a budget. @@jasonshortphd Congratulations Jason, what a great achievement to arrive proudly and the end of a project and be able to enjoy the fruits your labors. Remember to consider the costs without tools, because those you keep and use again on the next build, which makes your bike even better value, and most of all, as you ride the miles and enjoy your new ride, you can enjoy a closer understanding and empathy with the bike, how its wearing and it's general state of health.. plus of course a wider pride of ownership than the guy who "books in with the dealer and enjoys a complementary coffee while in the waiting room..!!!"
