Many many thanks for the great video Del and Pen. This was a special one for sure. I can’t imagine this was an easy one to film or edit. It came out great so thank you for your hard work and dedication. The only bearings I was familiar with until now was the ones I changed on my old skateboard circa 1985 lol. Now I know much more.....thank you.

Dai, I just knew you were a skater boy lol - Seriously, thanks mate, it was a great fun video to make, and was really glad to get the bearing set replaced and move past that milestone in the build... 12degrees all this week so far, and raining every day (so washing all the salt away!), maybe get out for a ride on Sunday - how about you?? Love to you all, catch ya very soon, D&Px

Although I’d much rather be riding my RSV4, that’s for sure. All good here mate, hope you and Penny are well and enjoy your Sunday ride!!! Give a massive bear hug to the Penstar from us x

You two are just the best! Can't tell you how much I appreciate the efforts you go to and how much help and inspiration it is to us. You have shown time and again how scary work can be done safely and easily, and usually not that scary after all. Del, you are a home garage God! And I worship at your feet, but Pen, you are just as legendary working that camera. Thanks and BIG respect to both of you.

Yeah, they were a bit jammed in there.. the main issue with the left side is that you're slide hammering TWO bearings out at the same time.. and not slim ones like the wheel bearing type.. but those needle rollers are almost twice the width.. so the friction area was at least three times that of a regular bearing... still came out though aye.. muah ha ha.. that bearing puller is a beast... lol!

Cheers buddy, you won't regret it, it's a silly price for all that kit, should be over £270, so they're running at about £120 at the moment, and you'll definitely use it again... it will make taking wheel bearings out just chiild's play, as the bridge puller mechanism, that I didn't use, means you don't need a single hitting tool whatsoever... and am gonna cover the use of that when I do the wheel bearings once I get the tyres fitted! Link under the video... get stuck in !

Hey Del. This was a good simple skills video. I myself use BelRay Marine grease on everything I use since it’s marine grade waterproof grease. I mean if it’s graded for watercraft vehicles then it sure as hell will work on motorcycles in spades. Luckily my project bike wasn’t as involved on the swing arm. It just had the inner tube but with only two outer swing arm nylon bushings. Those old ones were hell trying to chisel out because they had hardened up so bad. Also, for Valentine’s Day, I decided to trade in my Triumph so my wife could have a proper working car again. It hurt, it like I told her and everyone else, “Men do what’s required when their significant other and/or kids have needs that need to be met.”. It hurt but since I have that project bike once it gets built I’ll have a bike again. So there is a bright side. Cheers!

Great vid Del :) When I needed a bearing press I had thought of using threaded bar (which I can get for free from work) but just didn't have any in my garage at that time. I was lucky enough to have a scissor jack that I didn't need so used an angle grinder to chop all the metal off leaving me with just the threaded bar section with a handle on one end and a big square threaded nut on the other. It was also a bit of luck that the jack I had has it's handle permanently attached rather than the ones with an awkward detachable one. So, a couple of washers and spacers (sockets) later and I have a very easy to use one handed bearing press :) I've used it many times on motorbikes and for mountain bike head bearings, and it coped easily with rear wheel bearings on my Focus which I think have a 78mm(?) diameter so they're a fair old bearing to press home. Keep up the good work Del. Iechyd Da, from the land of song :)

Sure thing mate, you do it once and then you forget you've not done it for so long, that fate makes you do it again just to remind you lol !

To right Del . Painful lesson. Remember setting the valves on a GT6 dam spanner slipped got my finger on the side of the head claret all over the show .

Cracking video Del , I am with Russ tomorrow looking at those circlip pliers with the magic tips ! That looked a hefty circlip wouldn’t like that shooting off normal like pliers will give you a call
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 лет назад
Hey Tony, Those ARE the circlip pliers with the magic tips, they grip the circlip really safely, and yeah, it was the kind of clip that'd either bury itself in your forehead, or vanish into another dimension..lol.. Chat soon mate..
@tonymartin3780

Yes mate I could see they were magic tip and they removed the circlip with ease

See now we knew there was a reason you haven't bolted that vice down! I reckon the swing arm bearings and suspension linkage bearings don't get serviced any where near as often as they should. People are intimidated because it looks hard and it takes a while to get it all apart and it's too expensive to pay someone to do it for you, but as you've shown, everyone should be able to do that, even if they don't need to replace the bearings. Nice discount on that too, might have to consider upgrading the smaller set I have. Cheers Del.

Ayup buddy, you know it's worth it, you absolutely couldb't do this job without the right puller, and this is daft money for such a lot of kit... go on, treat yerself, you know you want one! You're right on the bearings, nobody ever takes a swing arm out, but the short link on this has been done, probably cos it's dead easy to drop off with the wheel and swing arm in situ... save me a few bob too! See ya in a couple of weeks mate!

Great video as always! Have you ever used a bearing drive kit? It has an assortment of disc sizes that are flat on one side and conical on the other for race installation. They also have a hole in the center for a handle or threaded rod. Probably not teaching you anything you don’t know but thought I would mention it. Thanks for your contributions! Cheers

Thanks Matthew, as long as you have a safe off road space like a drive way, you can use a gazebo to do those longer jobs that need a bit more time and weather protection.. not expensive and give you an option if you're stuck..!! take care buddy, and have a good weekend.. Del.
