This delicious, all natural orange chocolate chapstick is full of holiday nostalgia and perfect for protecting winter lips. Plus, it’s a cinch to make and completely guilt free!

0:46 - Ingredients for Orange Chocolate Chapstick
3:03 - Melt the Wax, Cocoa Butter, and Oil
4:16 - Take it off the Heat and Add Remaining Ingredients
5:06 - Pour the Lip Balm into Tubes
Ingredients:
4 g (about 1 tsp) raw/unrefined cocoa butter
4g (about 1 tsp) beeswax
4g (about 1 tsp) jojoba oil (or other liquid carrier oil)
3-6 drops Sweet Orange essential oil
a few drops of vitamin E oil (optional)
Tools:
2 chapstick tubes or lip balm type containers
a saucepan and a small heat proof bowl OR a double boiler
spatula
a kitchen scale (optional, but useful)
Instructions:
1. Place beeswax and cocoa butter in a double boiler or a heatproof bowl on top of a saucepan of simmering water. Stir gently until completely melted.
2. Add jojoba oil (or other liquid carrier oil of your choice) and stir to combine.
3. Remove from heat, being careful to wipe any water from the bottom of the bowl. Stir in vitamin E oil (if using) and essential oil.
4. Carefully (but quickly) pour the liquid oil mixture into chapstick tubes and allow to sit until the product has completely cooled. (For faster results move the tubes to the fridge after it’s begun to solidify.)
5. When the lip balm is completely cool, cap it and apply liberally as needed! Your lip balm should be good for about 6 months to a year (depending on the freshness of your ingredients.)
Notes:
Pro Tip: For easier filling, I like to secure my tubes together with a rubber band!
A note about essential oils: Some citrus oils can be phototoxic and should not be used in leave-on skin care recipes. Sweet Orange essential oil is generally considered SAFE to use for most people and is not phototoxic. Feel free to substitute any other lip balm safe essential oil in this recipe. (Peppermint hot chocolate anyone?!)

Chocolate is my weakness. And orange pairs beautifully with it. What a great idea. I had forgotten all about those yummy orange candies. Might have to try and find some this year and give both the chapstick and the chocolate as a gift!

Seems like the stores just got the chocolate oranges in for the season! Everyone here has been happy to help me eat my “props” for this video 😂

Hey! I just subscribed :) I think that I'm going to try this recipe today, thank you :) I like your hat, it looks really good in that color/style of yarn :) If it's the same pattern that I'm thinking about, it's a really fun hat to work up! I used to make this hat and another one called Lakeside men's hat which is easy and looks nice as well :) P.S. Your hat would look so cute with 2 wooden buttons sewn on :)

Thanks so much! I made it forever ago and am still rocking it! It's so cozy. Wooden buttons sounds like an adorable touch, thanks.

Another AWESOME recipe and video, Elise! I so want to try this, like today! Unfortunately, my cocoa butter is refined (I found it in pellet form instead of wafers and thought it would melt quicker and that it would be better for body butters etc) but since this recipe is so easy to scale up and down I might try a batch with some added cocoa powder and see how that works. Thanks again - you're awesome! Have a fabulous weekend! :)

Hey, thank you!! 🥰 That’s a very good point about the unrefined vs. refined cocoa butter. Thanks for mentioning that- I will update the video notes for other folks who might not realize that refined cocoa butter doesn’t have the chocolate taste/smell. I do think that should work with the cocoa powder! If you try it, I’d love to know how it turns out.

Hey! I am working on a new tutorial using cocoa powder, inspired by your idea! (It's delicious, by the way.). Would you mind if I highlight this comment in the video?
