Smooth and shiny with a light pink shimmer, this glossy beetroot lip balm is as fun as it is moisturizing! It is 100% natural and non-toxic with no synthetic colors/dyes and no icky ingredients. Super glam. Super yummy.

1:59 - Ingredients
3:10 - Infuse beetroot powder into oils
4:58 - Strain the pink beetroot oil
7:49 - Put it all together
8:59 - Pour the pink lip balm
Ingredients:
15g (about 1 T) coconut oil
3g (about 1 tsp) olive oil
8g (about 2 tsp) fine beetroot powder
1g (about 1/2 tsp) cocoa butter
2g (about 1/2 tsp) beeswax
a few drops of vitamin E oil (optional)
Tools:
small lip balm type container (about 10mL)
a saucepan and a small heat proof bowl OR a double boiler
spatula
coffee filter or cheesecloth
a small bowl
a kitchen scale (optional, but useful)
Instructions:
1. Place coconut oil and olive oil (or other shiny carrier oil such as castor oil) in a double boiler or a heatproof bowl on top of a saucepan of simmering water. Stir gently until all are completely melted.
2. Add beetroot powder and stir to incorporate, breaking up any small clumps. Allow oils and beetroot to infuse for about 30 min- 1 hour, keeping the water at a low simmer and stirring occasionally.
3. Remove from heat and wipe any water from the bottom of the bowl. Carefully pour the mixture into a coffee filter or a piece of cheesecloth on top of a small bowl. Let this cool for just a moment until it is cool enough to handle. Carefully squeeze the oil out of the filter into the bowl. You should end up with approximately 10g of pink oil.
4. Wipe your heatproof bowl with a rag or paper towel to remove any remaining sediment. Now add the cocoa butter and beeswax to your double boiler and allow these to melt together. Pour the pink oil into the butter and wax mixture and stir to incorporate.
5. Remove the bowl from the pot of simmering water and again wipe any water from the bottom of the bowl. Add a few drops of vitamin E oil (if using) and stir.
6. Now, pour the mixture into a clean lip balm container and allow to set up until completely cool!

Oh my gosh thank you so much for this tutorial! I have been struggling with plant pigment for lip tints! I discovered the same problem- most of them are water soluble not oil. So my lovely hibiscus was a gritty gross mess. I did discover that gycerine works great for a pip gloss, but it is really loose and beeswax will separate. So this is all very interesting. Additionally, I put some raspberry tea in and it flavored it nicely.

This is great. Im doing this! Thank you. Months ago, I wanted to create a chocolate scented lip gloss for a pregnant friend of mine. That was a lesson. Castor oil and cocoa powder in a lip gloss tube wasn’t the brightest idea I’ve had. lol. I learned a little about lip gloss that week and then moved on. She ended up receiving a naturally scented cocoa belly butter from me, which she loved. But now I know a method of incorporating it into a balm. She’s had her little one, but she still loves chocolate 😊

Oh dear! 😂. What a great gift! Did you end up actually using the cocoa powder in the belly butter? Or was it made with cocoa butter?

@@TheCrunchyGinger Nah, I just used cocoa butter. The unrefined has such a noticeable cocoa aroma on its own :) I did add some shea, as well.

Agreed! I love that chocolate smell, too. Shea and cocoa butter are perfect for a belly balm!

Can we use dried beetroot pieces to infuse the oil instead of beetroot powder?

Do you have any recipes that will actually leave a colour stain on the lips? Could you use hibiscus and beetroot together or infuse more colour into that amount of oil?

Very nice for a little girl. I’m ready to make another batch of lip balm myself. I will be incorporating hibiscus flower and rose petals to mine, plus a few drops of cinnamon for a plumper. As always I love your videos. 🥰

Thank you, Susan 🥰. What great ideas! I’m gonna try the cinnamon! It would taste so good in this, too. I think it kinda tastes like brownies 😋

@@TheCrunchyGinger be very careful with the cinnamon, I put a drop too much and burned my lip 😎

😱 !! Thanks for the tip! Did you use cinnamon powder or essential oil?

@@TheCrunchyGinger I used cinnamon oil. Be careful with the cinnamon oil, it doesn’t take much. You can infuse a tiny piece of a hot pepper in some oil to mix it with the cinnamon, this mixture makes a pretty powerful lip plumper.
