Sorry for that last question. I found Part 1 of the d610 video and you provide more than enough info. to help me find my cpu. thanks so much for your time.
i learn alot, thank you very much, but at the last part of your lesson, u said dont install window 7, i am running window 7 right now on my laptop 610.. no problem so far. i dont plan to up grade...so thank you very much..lol... next time get some one to hold that camera for you... that is the only thing you get a c plus on.... good instructor.... waiting for your next video... thank again.
For the thermal compound, it's best to clean everything thoroughly with rubbing alcohol (or even denatured), and since you have it apart, you might as well spend $5-10 and invest in a quality compound like Arctic Silver or IC Diamond. The price to performance is well worth it to extend the life of your PC.
@RaggiGJ And also I dont think it is a good idea to apply the thermal paste to the cpu using your fingers, since your fingers have grease on them and this method also makes tiny air bubbles in the paste that reduce the cooling effect of the paste. I am no expert but this is what I have learned from many other computer specialists. It's better to apply the paste straight from the syringe/tube/plastic bag and let the cooling module spread the paste while you are re-installing it in the laptop.
This video is awesome. I just did the upgrade. Having watched the video I was able to install the new CPU in 15 minutes. Thank you so much! The upgrade was immediately noticeable on boot up
@fred96002001 hi, the d610 needs drivers installed for the windows xp with a hard drive upgrade and is a little to hard for most to deal with on youtube, if I get time this winter I'll try and put one up. thanks
Great videos series. Thank you for showing this is such detail. I plan to get a D610 because I need to have a parallel port to run a cnc milling I am building.
Thanks for the video. I will be upgrading my d610 shortly. As others have noted you should not apply the thermal compound with your finger. You can deposit a small amount on the CPU core and then use a credit card to smear it.
1) Use some rubbing alcohol (or cheap aftershave like I do!) to remove the old paste 2) Don't use fingers to apply the paste as grease from fingers is not very good for thermal conductivity and 3) I would recommend Arctic MX-2 or MX-4 paste as neither paste is electrically conductive (as the actual CPU is exposed unlike a desktop CPU, non conductive is safer to use)
You have changed a BIOS configuration parameter. When I change the internal DIM, the computer does not start. Nor does it give any error. Thanks and best regards
love your vids. i bought a d610 for $60 shipped and it had 2 512mb chips. i only replaced the one underneath with a 2gig corsair cgm2x2gs800 i had layin around. should i take the keyboard off and remove the other 512 chip or it won't hurt anything to just leave it installed? i would also like to see a vid of a harddrive upgrade if you would make one. thanks.
can be applied semi-conductive paste to the gpu?? what is the usual temperature of these notebooks?? my nothebook dell d610 minimal temperature is 44...will be because I have not given the semi-conductive paste?? excuse me, im not good with the english...
Hello 31pockets, I have a Dell Latitude D610 also and it's been upgraded from stock to a 1,86 GHz processor and 2x1GB memory. Would it be wort it upgrading it up to a 2,1GHz processor and is 2GB really the max memory size it can handle? Also I would like to recommend to other D610 owners to disconnect the monitor cable and temporarily taping it to the display mask above so you have easier access to the cpu and cpu cooling module.
Thanks for the video. Very very interesting . I'm going to change the CPU and memory of my old D610 One question, what product have you put on top of the CPU? Regards, J.A. Ballarin
NO! NONONONO! NEVER use your finger to spread the paste on the CPU! your finger has many oils and such that, when the processor later heats up, act as hot grease and can damage the processor. use a clean pocket knife or razor blade.
Thanks for the "how to" video, its very informative. Could you let me know what the specs are for the cpu you used in the d610? I am using a d610 and have upgraded everything except the cpu and am ready to make this upgrade. Thanks alot.
i have this same computer with win 7 on it i upgraded it wasn't slow it ran quicker with 7 than with XP. this computer actually played some new games that i have like diablo 3 and torchlight and left for dead. but most high performance games will not work like Skyrim / call of duty modern warfare. and so on. its good for indie gamers and old school games. its pretty much a basic laptop now that used to be high end in 2003 when manufactured
I have 2 x 256MB RAM (PC2-3200S-333) at the moment. I think they are 400MHz. I want to upgrade to 2 x 1GB. Dell is selling 1 GB PC2-6400S-6 2009 SODIMM. Can I use 2 x 1 GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SODIMM 533 MHz instead?
After installing new RAM my laptop no longer boots up. When I press the power button it starts, normal fan noises and such, nothing on the screen and the lights on, not blinking, then shuts down all in about 5 seconds. I have tried suggestions relating to power and battery, but nothing works. Do you think the RAM is bad. I have tried this with the original ram and the new ram and it all doesn't work
