Everything is great in 5750 or xps 9700 and its sibling 5700 xps except the lack of dedicated USB-A and HDMI. Bringing a dongle is a hassle and screw the days if we forgot it during a conference or travels.
Clarence Taylor yea who goes on the toilet with their laptop smh that’s kinda gross like now u have ur pee pee and poo poo hands all over the keyboard 🤦♂️😅🤷♂️🤔
This content is a good idea because I've always liked cars and tech. If you like one you tend to like the other and id guess that's how it is for a lot of guys.
@TheGoat TB3 allows the use of super-fast external SSD storage for near instant big file transfers for backup or whatever. Using an external NVMe M.2 external drive, especially Gen4, through Thunderbolt3 should be as fast as using the same drive type internally. Also, of course, for using USB1 and USB2 peripherals, an adapter can be fitted to each device to allow them to fit the laptop's USB3/Thunderbolt socket. You should not need a TB3 multi-hub in most cases.
It was smart of Dell to lean into this relationship. You really know you stuff here, it's a total joy to watch and it makes me want a Dell XPS. You really need to keep the tech wed thing going, very enjoyable. Thx!
Dude, when you are sponsored by Dell it makes believing anything that you say about them hard to believe. Also, why do you only 'review' Dell? You have a great channel, be careful with selling out and how your viewers see you. You're not far away from being a shill now.
The unit reviewed was an advanced prototype. Believe me that the release to market units are stunning. The screen is incredibly designed and have an infinityedge display #iwork4dell
Thanks for this SG! My old Precision M6500 is a relic at this point, but it's still plugging along and does most of what I need it to do 10 years later. Doing teaching part-time I miss the legacy ports, and the curmudgeon in me misses the old 16:10 displays (Especially the RGB-LED unit in that last M series with it) and keys with a bit more travel. The price you pay for not having to lug around an 8+ pound brick of a workstation... I think a lot of people's experience with Dell is colored by their low end, consumer grade products. The Latitude and Precision laptops I used back in the day were built like tanks, and seemingly bulletproof. I'll be sad when the mobo in this sucker eventually gives out. Good to see they're pushing the envelope with their more capable product. Hopefully the outlet is still around with a smoking deal on their good stuff every now and then... Cheers!
Thank you for the educational and unbiased video. I'm a residential builder and chose the XPS to do my cad work. Picked all the cutting edge features for my build and couldn't be more pleased with the machine. Crazy fast restart speeds and 3D rendering is swift and accurate. Got 4K invested in it so far and will end up spending another four hundred to change the 16 GB ram out to 64 GB. Couldn't imagine spending even more for a Precision as I don't play computer games.
Mr. Goose, you devote some time to testing the audio systems in vechiles, how about testing speakers or headphones for tech wednesdays? Maybe even in that 100-300$ price range for headphones that is.
Did you tell them about your Dell agreement... kinda of a conflict of interest to be reviewing products from your sponsors. You should stick to the vehicles or risk your hard earned credibility.
1:29 Please tell me you're not really eating on the crapper. 😄 That you're a CoD player is a low point. 😄 No one offering piano gloss black touch pads? I wonder why. Could it be that laptop designers are smarter than automotive interior decorators? The Dell arrow keys are not gamer friendly. Left and right being double height makes them unergonomic since the fingers would naturally rest on the lower ends, not the middle. Why are you talking about granite all the time if there is none in the laptop case? 😜
intel Xeon and vPro CPUs with Nvidia Quadro GPUs on the precision line while the XPS line comes with regular intel CPUs and Nvidia's GTX/RTX cards. The precision series is more of a workstation line whereas the XPS series is more of jack of all trades deal. Hope that clears it up!
@savagegeese Should also ask for all maintenance costs to be covered for the duration. Several major services may be required and they take time and don’t come cheap.
You can shut it down and turn it on, and it would still show uptime like it was running all the time. You can change that under power settings in windows. On the left you click "what does power button do" and then uncheck "fast startup" . This will make sure your machine and all of the processes are shut down.
AcTiVe TV True, and I change that setting for all my clients so I know they start clean after a shutdown. Wasn't gonna go into that setting here but I'm glad you did.
Still don't understand why you don't have a desktop. You clearly have a office work space that you sit at yet you dock your laptop? Why not both for best of both worlds. Maybe cost
I have two office spaces. And when traveling I need to edit. I cant cloud store the data its too larger and to edit quickly all 400GB worth of videos files for one project needs to be on local NVMe. If I had a fast enough NAS or local storage I could edit off that maybe but thats one more thing to drag around.
@@savagegeese makes sense! I've grown to hate laptops because of all 7 of them never lasting more than 3 years, but this Dell is a game changer for sure
For anyone purchasing laptops in 2020 choose ryzen 4000 cpu unless you get intel laptops cheaply like 200 $ less. AMD is the faster , efficient and is much more cooler while being just as reliable as intel
@@nwbasson intel is paying off all the manufacturers to prevent AMD offerings , they did before and they are doing it again . Why couldn't dell just put the ryzen in XPS frame ? There is no drawback but they won't because of intel $$$ . Some asus laptops are beginning to get ryzen chips
@@ramk2443 Intel is not paying off manufacturers, that's BS. Ryzen 4000 mobile architecture is pretty new still and AMD want's laptops developed around the chipset, hence the Asus G14 and G15, both chassis developed with Ryzen 4000 in mind. You can't just rip the intel chip from an existing hi-po Intel chassis and slap Ryzen in there, you'll have poorer performance and AMD would not actually allow that anyway. Yes Ryzen 4000 is great but AMD really needs to either relax their requirements or push harder for for new flagship laptop chassis. It's probably fine for lower spec laptops though.
I have an xps13 and it’s not very solid in the case/lid. That’s the only thing I don’t like is the flex and the stupid click I get every so often from opening the lid...
Thank you, it was consistent pre review. I would be great to see detailed reviews, tests and compartions with MBP and between each other for whole new Dell line up 15, 17 (Precision and XPS) models. Couple particular questions from me are: is there still coil whine present (on charge, on battery, when scrolling in a browser, applications (I have XPS 9560), other electrical noises, minimum screen brightness (MB Pro allows to work in a dark, my XPS toooooo bright at minimum), screen flickering lower than 50-40-30-20-10), SSD speeds (Mine is with 512 Toshiba which is 3 times slower than MBP SSD), etc. Thanks in advance.
lol sorry but Dell makes garbage. Made the mistake of buying an Alienware 13 R3. Spent $2200 on it. RGB chip on Mobo died within 6 months (look it up, this is common), had to have entire mobo replaced. Never ending driver problems and microstutters, trackpad problems. It has a GTX 1060 but can't get above 30 FPS on battery even in old games like Half Life 1. Dell Support is shockingly useless. Worst laptop I've ever owned.
The idea of even excluding a standard USB port is mind boggling. I can't get around it. WHO THE FK THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA? REALLY? Let's design a state of the art Mercedes Benz with ONLY USB C ports.
I like the tech reviews. Keep it up. But commenting on the laptop: No number pad? That's a fail. I can't buy a laptop for work that doesn't have a 10 key.
All of your videos are the highest quality I’ve seen from an individual creator. Thank you for keeping me entertained and informed while stuck at home. Big fan of Tech Wednesdays
Hey I just got mine as yours !! But what I notice is that the temperature is going higher than 65 degrees while editing or performing high intensive tasks . Is it okay ?
I'm writing this on a Precision 5510. The carbon deck is awesome, but Dell insists on putting stickers that stain and ruin the carbon. You don't see stickers on the promo's! The stains might be from the glue? and cannot be removed. I have stains 1x Left Bottom, 2x Right Bottom, 1x right top (near the old power button) on my Xeon 5510. When I tried to quote/buy a 5750 (with ECC which is not available on the Dell NZ site) the salesperson went away after I asked for no stickers, came back and said 'not possible'. WTF, happy to pay NZD $7600, but like my 5510 its a 5 year purchase and I don't want the stains!!!
I’ve just ordered one here in Colombia because the XPS 17 isn’t on sale here. Funnily enough... the i9 version with 32GB ram and 250gb SSD is over £1K cheaper here than in the UK (where I’m from). It’s the same price as the XPS 17! 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Mark: it would be cool if you could pivot to microphone/camera recommendations. My wife is teaching yoga in our living room now that her studio is bankrupt. We had to drag her 29inch iMac into the the hallway. What do you recommend by way of microphones and cameras to capture super high quality video and sound for RU-vid. She is a power user like yourself having worked for Apple for11 years. She doesn’t care about cars but is impressed by your sound and lighting techniques. Help us! Stay safe, man! Ohad.
Still using intel chips in medium/high end laptops is blasphemy . There is no scenario where intel processors can compete with ryzen chips in 2020. Screw dell and intel
Oh look, another gamer whose never done a pro workload in their life speaking with false expertise smh. This is such an ignorant comment, it hurts me. He literally talks about the benefits of being able to get Xeons in these laptops at 4:14. AMD doesn't have a single mobile workstation CPU right now, so there's no such thing as a workstation laptop with AMD right now. No mobile Threadripper, no mobile Epyc. That means you can't get ECC ram, you're not gonna find any mobile workstations with Ryzen paired with workstation graphics (which also means you're not gonna get a double precision Nvidia card for CUDA work), and you can't even really work in Linux on Ryzen because the drivers are simply behind in terms of refinement (they're getting better all the time, but they're still behind). Saying "There is no scenario where intel processors can compete with ryzen chips in 2020" is pretty much the same as saying "There is no scenario where FCA cars can compete with GM cars in 2020". You're a thousands of miles away from the truth, and you're just demonstrating tremendous ignorance, blatant fanboyism, or both.
It looks good in some areas, and horrible in other IMO. The 'carbon fiber' surface just looks out of place, but the most glaring deficiency is the precision in the USB ports! They're crooked!
Use a Type-C (Male) to USB-A adapter (Female) adapter and leave it on your peripheral that needs to be attached to the laptop. The new generation USB devices will eventually evolve to use Type-C.
How come you had Quadro rtx 5000 in this? Currently the only reason I am contemplating buying this machine is the max choice on the website is RTX 3000.
Has Dell fix the issue that they have with the battery swelling under the touch pad. I bought my precision 5520 to replace my desktop. The rub is you cannot keep it docked charging all the time. I have had to replace the battery 3 times as it swells and pushes out the trackpad beyond the bezel.
I don't get it. Apple has one of the best designers and engineers in the world and they still have problems with cooling system. How hard is to design a cooling chamber?
Car and tech reviews in one channel? Amazing! Also, 2020 Dell XPS 15 and 17 review? I’ve really been considering getting one and escaping from the MacBook and I wanted to hear your opinion
@Antonio Zamudio I understand that and you’re right. MacBooks are much more refined when it comes to software and hardware interaction and communication. That’s why I have an iPhone. But as far as features that matter to me as the user, Windows is so much more practical and has features that I use everyday on my desktop. Multitasking, app management, file management, device management, compatibility with third party apps and software, ability to upgrade to better software, all of these things windows does better for me and I’m sure does better for a lot of other people. And also Windows laptops have come a long way since a few years ago. Color accuracy and build quality aren’t just exclusive to Apple anymore. Sure they maybe better, but not by a huge margin like they used to be. And with AMD bringing unbelievably good performance-to-the-dollar and efficiency in the ultra book and laptop segment, Apple have a lot to live up to in their MacBook department. And hopefully that’ll translate when they start making they’re own silicon.
