Thanks for this. For my machine it was the power supply, but the replacement I bought was about 3/4 of an inch deeper. Had to remove those USB and audio jacks from the top to get the new one in. This showed me exactly how to get at those. 👍

I've got an XPS 8500 from way back in the day, maybe 2011/2012 as well as an 8910SE and 8940. I haven't had to remove any case panels on the 8500 yet, been a very solid build all these years. I did opt to dig into the 8910SE to add a front fan from an Aurora R7. I gotta say, I'd much rather mess with the 8500. I often get the urge to just swap my 8910se internals into the 8500. Partly for the looks, but also because the 8910-8930 were just a cooling nightmare. Whoever signed off on having the PSU have ~10mm of clearance from the "high performance" CPU cooler intake, for the i7 models, should be ashamed of themselves. lol Good video though. Always wondered how the old xps case was assembled. Might actually dig into mine now and see how feasible a case swap would be.

Got an 8900 that finally stopped turning on so gonna order this part and try to fix it thanks for the video. I guess since Microsoft will stop supporting windows 10 and of course they won't let 11 go on this machine this will be the last repair I do on it.

You should try to spray some electrical contact cleaner into the switch and see if that helped. There is a guy on here that popped the switch out and took it apart and cleaned the contacts put it back together and it worked fine. My 8700 started doing this so I have to either try to repair the switch or order a new one. Thanks for the video.

Took case apart was full of dust blew it out with compressed air .Removed the switch from the metal case .While working the switch (unplugged from power ) I sprayed it down with CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner ( available at any auto parts store) .Let it evaporate tested the switch turned on and off every time. Reassembled the case PC starts first click every time since. Thanks again. @@ItsBinhRepaired

I have the same model and after 8 years of annoyance from the power button, it broke down completely and won’t turn on. Your video is thorough and helpful, now I would easily fix it myself! Would really appreciate it if you could tell me where can I find the part? I’m not from the us and want to avoid counterfeit parts.

Dude I ran a technology business for 11 years. We were decent sized. We had two retail stores, an average of about 100 techs in 35 states and Puerto Rico. We had 8 dispatchers... and did residential, commercial, enterprise, and government. Ya, who cares...I just wanted to show you some credibility before I slap you brother. :) I noticed you working on a concrete floor, which is fine, but you drug that pc around on its side... making it dirty and SCRATCHING it up. This is not yours, it belongs to your customers... so treat it with respect. Drop a towel down or better yet use a tech bench... You can clue down cheap rubber mats...keep your work area clean. And wipe your customers equipment down BEFORE they see it! I once had a tech...he was replacing a motherboard in a Compaq Desktop for a warranty repair. We had contracts with most of the manufacturers to do repairs. Dell was the sweetest deal... because they tossed us many contracts worth 6 figures. Anyway, this tech was replacing a motherboard in this ladies house. I got a call from an angry customer while Phil was still there. He unplugged the PC...and did the repair on her antique coffee table belonging to her great great grandmother, who came over from Germany in the late 1800s. As he drug this computer around like I just watch you do 😊, he dug it into the table making two wood matchstick sized gouzes and multiple smaller scratches. She was not happy. When one of tgd girls transferred the call to me...she warned me... and she was furious! I let her vent, assured he'd Phil would be reprimanded and receive better training... but more importantly...I would immediately get her taple looked at and repaired. As LUCK would have it...I found a furniture restoration company less than a mile from her house and the owner said he could head over immediatly! I call Mrs Customer back... she was not a angry. 😊 He went and looked, he called me and said there was not a mark on the table except for Phil's damand...he could fix it like it never happened for $800! Of course we had insurance, it wax already expensive...not making it go up for an $800 repair...so, mh company paid out of pocket. She was extremely happy. About six months later one of are dispatchers came in my office, asked I I remembered Phil's customer and tgd coffee table. I said, "What now?" She smiled and said, "She works for the school district and want a bit to replace all of tgd computers and servers for the entire district!". Amazing. I personally went to do the bid...met the lady face to Face... Oh, she wasn't yelling! haha Longer story... but we won the bid... Just over $200k. I liked the video...just looking out for you. :). I hope this Was helpful. All the very best to you and yours, Kevin (former Founder and CEO, Seek Technologies, Inc)

I currently have 555 yelp reviews with an 4.9 average. Pretty much all the non 5 star reviews are people you can't really please. I've never had an issue with computers going back dirtier or scratched. I didn't drag the computer across the ground. I lifted it every time I moved it and softly placed it down. I am very careful with my own belongings and don't like them scratched either. I don't pad every surface I put my devices on. I just try to be careful with them. I'm extra careful with customer's things.

I'm glad you were able to make the customer happy in the end. If I did scratch a customer's computer, I'd make it right.
