Ethel Waters was my grandmother. I loved the sound of her voice. I loved the warmth that I felt as a child when I heard her voice. My real grandmother died in 1952, but I can still remember those dim lighted evenings listening to the radio in her quaint little living room where I slept on a sofa by the radio. When I would hear that unmistakable voice of my pretend grandmother, all was peaceful, all was beautiful, all was dreamland. My real grandmother, wasn't as nice, wasn't as loving and caring and certainly didn't have that wonderful, beautiful voice. Now, at 70 years old, I still can feel her warmth, her character and that mesmerizing voice that can never be duplicated. I love you Ethel Waters!

dan linsey The first time I saw one of Ms. Ethel Waters performances on RU-vid I had that same feeling like she was a great great grandmother. You can't help but have that feeling from her. She was an angel on eartn spreading the gospel.

That's exactly they way I've always felt about Ethel. Or, like she was my beloved aunt. It felt so safe and comfortable being around her. Great actress, great singer, great human being.

You have a great responsibility and burden to carry, to never allow this beautiful soul, to ever be forgotten. I will explain. It was more than several years back, when I went through a soul search, I never knew anything about this great woman, and that she had walked amongst us, on this planet, she was brought to me spiritually and physically, thru social media. I will never be the same, ever. Whoever, has to go on a soul search, should travel with this great soul, I promise, all those unknown questions, will be answered, in unspoken words. Trust. You are blessed, 🙌 🙏 because of your connection here. Don't ever take it for granted...

My grandmother loved Ethel Waters she was born in 1923 so Ethel was one of her faves . When my grandmother got old and had dementia I bought a Ethel waters CD and when she heard tunes like Thief in the night , Cabin , Birmingham Bertha her mind would click and she’d have clarity. Ethel was a big deal to depression era young people

if they ever did a biopic on Ethel Waters, Della Reese could easily play her

Taylor Downing Aw, if only...😢💔😔 BTW, if there's ever a Della Reese biopic, I think Tachina Arnold from "Ryan's Hope", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Martin", & "Everybody Hates Chris" could play her.🎬🎤🎼

I was a little kid when I first saw Ethel Waters in movie. I was probably 7 years old about 1955 or 56. I don't remember the name of the movie, but it was on television. In the movie, her character was maybe a maid, but she was the nurturer of her employer's children. The scene that has stuck with me all these year and burned into my heart was a scene where she and the children were in a bedroom, maybe sitting on the bed, Ethel was comforting the children as they were distraught. She sang "His Eye is On the Sparrow" to them. I was little, 7 or 8, and home alone without much adult supervision. Actually at 7 and 8 I was the caretaker of my brother who was 3 years my junior and my sister who was a toddler in diapers. I watched them after school and on the weekends, all day from 7 something in the morning until about 9 at night when my mother came home. Only during the summer did my brother and I get much consistent adult nurturing when we spent the summer with my father's parents. My sister stay home. My paternal grandmother was very nurturing like Ethel Waters characters. So, I think the 2 blended in my mind. I know that watching her films I was jealous of the children. I watched her show Beulah too. I don't know if I watched it live when I was 2 or 3, or if I watched reruns. I have never forgotten her warmth though that television
