Deltarune Analysis - More Reasons Kris (Probably) Isn't the Knight

Another reason why Ralsei isn't an object on Kris's person is that he actually stays with Susie after sending them to gather the other items in the unused classroom

Another potential argument for Kris not being the Knight is that whoever the Knight is must've been strong enough to overthrow the other kings to place the Spade one in charge, and in the battle with him he nearly kills Kris which makes it unlikely that they can singlehandedly knock out every other king.

I feel like pointing out how distinct the fountain created by Kris is from the fountain recorded by Queen. Kris's comes in distinct stages: a pillar of light, a pouring of smoke, and then darkness. Cyber World's Fountain: One pillar of light surrounded by twin beams of smoke, all at once. These creations are pretty distinct, in ways that don't feel accidental. Possibly a hint that the Knight who created Cyber World is different than Kris. I'll admit it's not conclusive, and there's a variety of possible reasons why they re distinct, including location but still.

There is a scene where Queen says "Now that the Knight is gone and the fountain is open, let's create a new one". With the mention of the fountain it sounds as if she is talking about creating a new fountain, but I believe she is talking about creating a new knight. By using Kris as a 'Pawn' (to stick to the chess references), she can 'send them to the end of the chess board and turn the pawn into a knight' (according to the rules of chess). My theory is that: Kris is not the original Knight, but a temporary replacement until the original knight appears at the end of the game again. Edit to add: Father Alvin would fit perfectly to the role of the 'Bishop', so I believe he will take that part in a later chapter. Having a Bishop be the Knight seems... a bit odd.

Something that I feel a lot of people overlook in discussion with Kris is their design. Both their Dark and Light World designs would seem like perfect red herrings that suggest them to be the villain. Their light world form looks a lot like Chara, as many have pointed out. Now, whether or not you believe Chara is evil or not, you can't deny that many associate them with evil. As so, making Kris look like an antagonist from the previous game would obviously sound some alarms in people's head. As for their Dark World design, they are quite literally portrayed as a knight by their armour and use of his sword. As so, when thinking about who the knight is, people would obviously flock to the character who is a knight. All this to say, Toby is a smart and subtle man. If he really wanted Kris to be the villain, he wouldn't have used such obvious design elements to do so. If anything, Toby using those design elements to subvert expectations seems much more in tune with his writing.

I think the reason why Kris has their own save in Chapter 2 when you don’t link a Chapter 1 save is that, without having linked the saves, they simply went through Chapter 1 by themselves, without you in control. It’s like when you go to sleep at the beginning of a chapter, except it’s a whole chapter you’re skipping, not just the start of one.

My first red flag for the theory of Kris being the Knight which I noticed mere minutes after finishing chapter 2 for the first time was... If they went to insane lengths to hide their fountain opening in chapter 1 (eating the entire pie, breaking smoothly into the library and leaving no traces of it etc, all while moving like a slug), why the hell would they do it right in front of us in chapter 2?!

i like to believe that Kris openned the dark fountain because they wanted to hang out with their friends and that they slashed the tires so that Toriel and Undyne would join.

9:00 OR the annoying dog (toby fox) is the knight and mad the traffic jam as a distraction. after all we know the annoying dog is the most powerful being in all of the Deltarune/Undertale universe considering it Created Undertale as implied by a room you unlock for dodging the credits.

I feel like you’re one of the only reasonable Deltarune theorists/interpreters I’ve seen on RU-vid.

I feel the actual subversion of chapter 2’s ending is going to be that the fountain doesn’t actually open properly and that there is a missing requirement we don’t have yet

Personally, I think that the Knight is our original creation. We're asked to name the creation, then provide our REAL name. The scientist that speaks with us even has special dialogue in the event that we named the creation after ourselves. I also think that it's pretty clear that the Knight is "human" like Kris... He's immensely averse to any information about humans and makes the distinction that the Knight and the closet fits a "person" and not specifically a "monster". We know based on other dialogue surrounding us that Kris is the only human in the monsters presence, despite them seeming to know what humans are in a broader sense. As for the closet representing another person and not just Birdly, I think it's important to remember that Toby's writing style blatantly enjoys providing information that has double meanings - the same way that the "Underground will go empty" whether you choose a genocide or a pacifist route.

Not much to say on the video itself (other than that it was awesome), but I'm so glad I'm not the only one who believes Father Alvin could be the Knight. For one, he's one of the new lightner characters (and those are more likely to play a role on DR's story compared to the UT cameos), he also represents the Angel-workshipping religion, which gives him a motive. Father Alvin could be trying to cause the Roaring to bring in the "Angel's Heaven", which he might see as a sort of rapture. I doubt it's Gaster simply because he seems to be exclusively tied to the hidden bosses storyline, it's more likely that the Knight is someone we've already seen or heard of.

I think the closet is Queen's Mansion. As we see in the game, the giant GigaQueen bot is stored in the middle of it. "A large person" could be referring to the GigaQueen Mech.

I don't think Kris is the Knight for a lot of reasons. Considering Queen could use any lightner she wanted to who has a strong will, monster or human. So fountain creation isn't limited to just Kris or humans alone which is enough reason to give credence to Kris not being the Knight. Kris only did it in the house most likely because he just learned how to do it because of Queen. Thats at least my take on it. As far as the tire incident goes...well Kris did probably slash the tires. Kris may have been out at the car. After all, Toriel and Susie didn't finish baking the pie after she went to get the bag of sugar out of the car. And when she came back her reaction was a bit off and decided to finish the pie later which is already a weird thing to decide. So I imagine Kris might've actually gone out to the car to clean the sugar bag out and done the tire slashing at the same time. He was out there quite a long time.

Y'know, it's entirely possible Asgore's the Knight. I have several reasons to believe this. A: Asgore's life is absolute he[ck] at this point: losing his job as a police chief, Sans c[L]ucking him, bestie at bedrest, etc. B: The description is literally "a large person could fit inside"; both Rudy and Undyne (in Undertale) describe him as "big guy", and his largeness is commonly indicated. C: Asgore has knight-like armor in Undertale, and his most impressive feat in said game was... driving his blade into the ground, destroying the MERCY option. Perhaps during Asgore's investigation for Dess, he found out about the Dark Worlds, found an escape similar to Kris and Susie, and wishes to bring that hope to everyone. But that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY- (P.S: This could be wrong, we cannot TRULY read Toby's endgame.)

One thing I haven't seen referenced anywhere while talking about Kris and the knight is Jevil's dialogue after defeating or pacifying him. Regardless of whichever route you take to battle him, Jevil refers to the knight and Kris seperately. Because of that dialogue, I do not believe Kris is the knight, as well as several other points brought up in this video, and others. And quite frankly, I'm not changing my mindset until further evidence is presented in future chapters. After all, toby's main thing with making games thus far has been subverting expectations, and with chapter 2's ending, I am certain that he wanted to fake us out. Besides, the whole argument with Kris being the knight because he seemingly created a dark world completely falls flat when you consider the whole reason why Queen kidnapped Noell in the first place: because anyone with enough determination can create a dark world. You see this begin to happen with Burghley until Ralsei stops him. Ralsei seemed confused and a little upset when Burghley tried to create a dark world, which wouldn't make sense if he were incapable of doing so in the first place. But how Ralsei would know how a dark world is created in the first place is... extremely vague at best, as far as I'm aware. With Toby Fox being himself, I doubt we'll have solid answers until more chapters come out, so whoever winds up being the knight is anyone's guess, realistically...

I have a feeling that the being which put us in Kris' body was this world's version of Chara. The Japanese translation uses a very particular tone for the last 3 sentences that's used in Undertale for Chara, and no other character. I also think it makes sense, given that the world of Deltarune acts as an inverse or alternative to that of Undertale in a lot of ways. It would be fitting for Chara to be a subversion as well. Since, in Undertale, we name them. And in Deltarune, they would be naming us.

Alvin's full sentence from the cemetery scene was "Is it right for this hammer to do some epic trolling" and proceeded to use it to destroy Toriel's tires Anyway thanks for putting Alvin there when comparing Berdly's height now I'm like 80% sure he's the Knight since the game would say "large person" unless it were an adult and Undyne, Toriel, and Asgore can't fit and Alphys is not a large person

Hot take: People are _way_ too quick to jump to pinning Kris as the villain. Like, I’ll fully admit: After seeing that ending, my first thought was that they were the Knight, too. But practically within the day, after looking back over everything, there’s _far_ too many inconsistencies for that to be make sense as we know Kris now (so glad you mentioned Spamton’s comment about the Knight, that’s one of the most damning pieces of evidence, coupled with that he doesn’t know Kris’s name until you agree to meet him during a normal route). And from a meta perspective: Why would Toby reveal that we’ve been playing as the current antagonist of the game at the end of Chapter _Two?_ It’d leave us waiting for the other shoe to drop for the rest of the game; I’m sorry, but that’d literally just be bad writing. Just like Chapter 1, Toby’s whipped up an ending that seems black and white on paper, its intentions crystal clear, but upon closer analysis paints a picture that’s far more complex and, dare I say, far more _interesting_ that what our initial conclusions lead us to believe. And that’s why I’m shocked the fans aren’t being more skeptical about Kris’s actions this time around. Even more than Chapter 1, we’re really starting to get to know their character, and all signs point to them being a troubled kid (likely even Deltarune’s incarnation of Chara) who wants the freedom to truly interact with their new friends, and isn’t thinking about the consequences these reckless, potentially dangerous actions entail (though like you said, Ralsei’s own motivations are a bit sketchy on their own). But no, they have to be evil, or possessed by _”Chara”_ whenever they act weird (seriously, not even the Knight, but “Chara?” Excuse me?). Despite everything, despite the themes of both Undertale and Deltarune, everything just has to be boiled down to good vs evil. The good guys vs the bad guys. God forbid we play as a complicated protagonist. Because we ourselves could never be the source of Kris’s corruption. Right…?

I just realized: shouldn’t it be impossible for The Knight to LEAVE Dark Worlds seemingly at will? The only ways we can do that are by sealing a fountain or using Castle Town’s weird light-from-above exit circle, which seems to be unique to that location thus far. Perhaps the Knight has never actually properly “entered” a Dark World. Maybe they just set everything up as necessary in the room they make it in and then leave before the fountain finishes forming.

THANK YOU SO MUCH i hate when people mention Kris is the knight but all they do is mention the obvious and when i argument they're like "WelL Is JUSt YouR TheoRy" yeah because they aren't doing a theory either (sarcasm). Not to mention this is Toby Fox were talking about, he would not do something so obvious like that for a important plot point.

Imagine if the darkness through the door Kris left open spreads to the rest of the town & everyone in the town falls into the new dark world except Nappstablook because when the darkness knocked, he closed the blinds & ignored it.

I don't like how this interpretation devolves into a second-by-second Ace Attorney crimescene analysis once you require the fountain to have been made while Noelle and Berdley were already in the room. Hiding in the closet (for some unknown reason), sneaking out behind the two monsters like they're playing Metal Gear, creating the fountain in such a way that the aforementioned two monsters are somehow absorbed before turning their heads to look, then fleeing the scene just a second before the traffic jam formed by pure luck. It's incredibly janky, and implies that Noelle and Berdley were specifically targeted by the Knight (otherwise why camp out in the closet?) while Kris and Susie's involvement was unplanned (nobody else in the light world knew Noelle had invited them to study). It also means the classroom fountain was created with a different MO than the library one- it was just opened in an empty room and left there, versus what you're saying was basically a targeted heist in chapter 2. Overall, I think the extent to which this version of events complicates matters and relies on coincidence outweighs both the timing of Ralsei's appearance and the open books.

I'd personally like to see the knight be a Grovyle like character. You think he's up to no good and can see him doing bad things, only to realise you've actually been lied to the entire time and he was trying to save the world

Also, the Cyberworld was clearly meant to have Noelle enter it. The mouse puzzles are composed of mice that sometimes have no effect on the puzzle, because the actual solution is to jump really high. Who else would that apply to? And Queen seems to be a representation of Noelle's mom, like how she's fixated on her specifically. I mean, she tells Kris that he's basically the perfect peon because of how silent and obediant they are, but she only wants Noelle. She says she wants Noelle because she's strong, but she wasn't talking about her abillity to create fountains since any Lightner can do that. And in the end, when Noelle finally takes a stand against her, she actually backs down.

Ralsei is presumed to be a green crayon in the light world, which went missing at some point. Taking this into account, it’s possible that Ralsei has actually met Kris before the events of Chapter 1 (which would explain why he knows Kris’s name without any input from anyone else). The fact that Kris appears to be scared of the dark world at the start of Ch.1, and of the bunker in Ch.2, could potentially mean that they (and maybe Ralsei) were involved in some kind of incident in the past whilst exploring a previous dark world. This would align with the sequences in Chapters 1 and 2 where Ralsei asks Kris to imagine what Susie is doing at that point, in order to divert the attention of whatever is possessing Kris. It’s possible that Ralsei and Kris have their own hidden agenda, one that they must keep secret so that the thing possessing Kris doesn’t rebel against them. Of course this is all speculation, but I think it’s a decent idea.

Food for thought: Kris may act differently than themselves when they rip out their soul, not because they’re possessed, but because beings without souls are just different. Sorta like flowey and asriel being the same but different (although I could be misremembering UT lore). So the decision to rip out the soul is Kris’ however afterwards they act differently, maybe not as a completely different character but different nonetheless. Or maybe not, nothing is confirmed. (Did any of this make sense?)

Much like the "Ralsei is evil" theories, I'm not opposed to "Kris is the Knight" because I wouldn't like it if they were. If Ralsei was evil he'd be the cutest villain ever and I would still love him. If Kris were the Knight I would assume it'd lead to a big anime-style "Gotta fight our misguided friend and knock some sense into them" stuff and Kris would not just like, die at the hands of their teammates or something in the end. I just think these both seem very unlikely and would not be good writing. Kris being the Knight especially because who in the hell writes a story like that? The Knight only really mentioned at the end of chapter 1 and really fully established as a mystery villain at the end of chapter 2, by telling us that it could be any lightner. Why would you establish your mystery and then reveal it's answer so early into the story? In addition to theorizing based on what "sounds the most interesting" instead of what actually makes sense, many UT/DR theorists seem to theorize without considering story structure at all.

What has gotten me confused the most is that final berdly scene where he says something along the lines of “i’ll make a perfect world” and ralsei stops him as he raises his halberd

I like to think that Kris isn’t the knight but only opened the dark fountain to get people to realize that something bad is happening with them (whole having a sound that, as we know, definitely isn’t theres thing). That and to potentially one up the knight and get one step ahead of them-seemingly bad actions, but good intentions.

I love watching your videos, especially the analysis ones. You seem like such a smart person, so keep up the good work!

About that unused intro: it says the Knight would briefly appear at the end, and the melody there is similar to the "Nightmare Knight" track Toby Fox made years ago, possibly implying that he might repurpose that melody. It also frames the Knight as the final boss, which also make it unlikely that it's Kris.

Hi, Dorked. Great video as always! Hope you had a great Christmas! I very interested by the idea of Papyrus being the Knight and was excited to see that you mentioned it in this video. I think I have a pretty solid theory for this, and since you have a very acute understanding of Papyrus's character, I'd like to share it with you! I hope this (lengthy) comment will be useful to you in the future. Without further ado... *The Knight is FREAKIN' PAPYRUS.* We never see him, even in Chapter 2, because he's busy creating dark worlds. True to the motif of bosses being themed after chess pieces, this fits with the Knight’s behavior in chess: always just out of reach of the pawn. Why would Papyrus open Dark Worlds, though? What are his motivations? In Undertale, his core motivation is to become a part of the Royal Guard, which doesn't exist in Deltarune. Instead, he plays out his fantasy of being a Royal Guard, or more generally, A KNIGHT, with his action figures in his room. In fact, he specifies that he plays with them in Undertale to re-enact battle scenes. Just like how Kris and Susie enjoy the toys in the old classroom coming to life in the Dark World, Papyrus probably has some friends in the form of the action figures in their Darkner forms. This explains why he stays inside all the time and has no friends in Deltarune, because he's busy in his own Dark World... Naturally, he wants more friends to join him, so he creates more Dark Fountains around the town in hopes that he can share this experience with others. After all, Papyrus has a very compassionate attitude in Undertale and generally performs deeds for the good of those around him, even though he is a bit misguided about it. That’s the purpose of his puzzles in Undertale, too. He wants to provide a fun obstacle course or “experience” for someone to participate in. Imagine how gleeful he would be to create a whole Dark World full of puzzles and other obstacles for his friends to experience! In Deltarune Chapter 2, there's a closet in the computer lab where the Dark World was created. The description says that "a large person could fit inside." We know that the Knight must've hid in the closet to create the Dark Fountain for the main protagonists without the library staff knowing and to fit in with the timing of the story. In Undertale, Papyrus says this about his own closet: "There are no skeletons in my closet, except for me sometimes!" Coincidence? I think NOT! Finally, this ties well into the overarching narrative of Deltarune and even the relationship between Deltarune and Undertale. Deltarune is supposed to be the inverse or rearranged version of Undertale. While Undertale took a deep dive into the character of Sans, I think that Deltarune will focus on Papyrus. Deltarune Sans seems rather normal, not teleporting or using any Gaster Blasters like he did in Undertale, possibly hinting at the fact that Papyrus is the one who inherited Gaster’s odd qualities, explaining how he was able to create the Dark Fountains in the first place. After all, Gaster’s Entry 17 seems to describe the Dark World. There are also seven action figures on Papyrus’s table in Undertale, perhaps reflecting the seven chapters of Deltarune and their respective antagonists. The stature of the main human protagonists seems to reflect this connection to Papyrus. Frisk and Chara are both roughly the height of Sans, while Kris is noticeably taller and thinner, perhaps pointing towards the taller, thinner skeleton brother. This also makes sense from a narrative perspective, and Toby could write a character arc connecting Kris's and Papyrus's shared loneliness and desire for more friends.

Queen also says "*today*, the knight deigned to create this world", so the timing couldn't have been earlier than after school on day 2, yet more evidence that Kris didn't make that fountain.

A few comments on your theory: Kris saves in between ch 1 and ch 2 at ralsei’s dark world. Since the save file says Kris, and not the name of whatever potential thing possessing them like the knight, as it does for us, means that Kris must be the one who is doing the whole heart ripping scenes. Also in order to get to the school to save at the dark world, they would have had to go past the library, and we last saw them with a knife that could open a dark fountain. And we know Kris has a past of getting into places they weren’t suppose to. Just saying. Also if Kris had planned on Susie sleeping over with them and not opening a dark fountain, then why didn’t they just ask Susie to stay over or use body language or a pre planned note to get toriel to invite them to stay over? There are a lot simpler solutions to this problem then just SLASHING YOUR MOMS TIRES. We have never heard of Kris doing major vandalism like this, and it seems weird for them to start now. But what slashing the tires does do is force Toriel to sleep with Kris and Susie, guaranteeing that they would all be sucked into the dark world. Since the objects in the light world correspond to the dark world geography, I think it is safe to conclude that the dark fountain was by the table (most likely where Kris and Susie were) which represents Queen’s castle (the laptop representing Queen is in it after all). And all of those things were fairly far away from the closest. Also if Berdly and Noelle were really in the room during the creation of the dark fountain, why didn’t they ever mention anything about it? Having the room explode with light and then be filled with smoke, with a mysterious person run out would be fairly hard to forget. Not to mention, how those two even got to cyber field in the first place since they would have dropped into presumably Queen’s castle. Finally, I did want to point out. Kris does have a lot of weird knowledge. For example for the whole hand washing thing. Kris does nothing to get Susie to come inside the house. Susie walks Kris home on her own volition, and then just before Susie leaves Toriel just so happens to open the door to greet Kris and invite over Susie. Then in the dark world sections, Kris calls the dark world bake sale a reoccurring bake sale despite being the first one in the game, and laments about the jukebox at ralsei’s dinner not working, how we can’t find a working juke box anywhere. Both of these are references to undertale. So does Kris know about Undertale????

Another interesting analysis video! Once more, thanks for uploading!

It makes a lot of sense that the annoying dog is so heavily involved in Chapter 2 but not 1. He was seen using the computer lab in chapter 1 & would therefore be too busy to get involved but Chapter 2's dark world opened in the computer lab so even if he hadn't planned to be there, he could've just fallen in at some point when trying to return to his work.

On the topic of the Knight, and Toby's quote about the game's cut intro having "Everyone running up the staircase as the silhouettes of the bosses show up" , I noticed that the entrances to Jevil AND Spamton's "areas" both have long staircases leading *down* to them. (?????? and Mansion Basement, respectively) idk what to make of this, but i thought it was interesting to point out!

Many people want to deny that Kris hates us for controlling their body, much like how people want to deny that they killed all the monsters in undertale. But, there is one key thing that we must remember in theses games. YOU, the player aren't always gonna be the good guy. I'm not talking about Frisk. I'm not talking about Chara. And I'm not talking about Kris. I'm talking about YOU.

Personally, I think it's possible that the knight created the dark fountains long in advance, like before the events of chapter 1. Maybe the newer dark fountains we'll see in future chapters would be created between chapters 2-4.

if you ever do a video on knight candidates, there sure are a lot for alvin, with his involvement with the school, gerson potentially having explored dark worlds, and "THE HOLY" being fountain music but i think something interesting is that spamton says "speaking of communion..." when attempting to talk about the knight. what if he was going to say the knight has a communion? what if thats a light world communion... like the church?

2:48 the dogs in the prison say that they were attacked by some mysterious entity at night. This could just be a throwaway line though.

Don't know how I missed this at first, lol. Once again, I agree with pretty much everything said here! I'd love to see your thoughts on certain connections, such as Father Alvin, the church, the Delta Rune and mentions of the Angel from both games, ect.

Oh, great!! I'll see this video when I go to bed because, seriously, I finished Ch. 2 two days ago and have so many thoughts about all of this (I'm trying to write it down first to organize my ideas). And that Kris was the Knight was just one of them, but later it got banished beucase of others facts I was seeing throughout the game (and speculations). Seeing the timestamps there are things that I probably didn't thought about.

Wait, I just had an idea while watching this… What if the knight is actually the vessel we make at the start of the game? They would probably have enough determination to open a dark world, seeing as they were going to be given a soul of determination. And it’s sort of like when you name Chara, you think this is for your player character only for it to be for an enemy (I’m not saying Chara is a villain, but it gives the same vibe.) There’s not a lot of evidence, but it’s something to consider!

6:25 This is a stretch but what if Dess is working for the knight. I can really see Toby doing this and I feel like would be VERY VERY INTERESTING

Ralsei knows exactly how the journey will go so of course he pretends that the fountain just appeared. Plus he hurried kris and Susie to the computer lab when he “hadn’t detected a dark presence yet” He knows it all.

I think the closet is Queen's mansion. The "large Person" is Queen's giant robot. All the other things we can interact with in the computer lab correspond to something in the dark work it wouldn't make sense for the closet to be an exception.

I think "The Knight" isn't necessarily a single person. Just a term whoever happens to open a fountain. In this case, we see that Kris is indeed "The Knight" for the fountain opened in Toriel's house. A few other things to mention; the closet dark world is the first we see. Kris could have opened it before the game starts (Toriel notes that they're going to be late for school, so its possible Kris didn't get as much sleep as usual, thus waking up late) and that Kris doesn't want to enter it since its the first and what will happen with it isn't entirely clear, but Susie goes in, so Kris has to follow. Regarding the library, either Kris did make it and things just ended up that way once everything was said and done, or indeed, someone else knows how to create fountains. Maybe this is the person Kris learned the ability from (Asgore, potentially? Could be related to what happened in the bunker, or with Des, or both. Assuming something traumatic happened within a previous dark world, it could also explain Kris' hesitance to the first one as well). Just my personal thoughts, we'll see what happens when ch3 comes out

Since your last video I have reverted my ways and am on board with the Knight being a separate character. Kris being able to open the previous fountains is too unlikely, and their motivations for opening the new fountain are some great characterization and parallel extremely well with Ralsei's warning. 5:20 Queen describes seeing the Knight herself I beleive, so it wouldn't make sense for the Knight to have been in the closet the whole time. Also, they likely fled, as the dark fountain seems to fill up the room quick, and the Knight would've been pulled into the Dark world as well. 6:12 I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to reference you saving over Kris's life? After all it shows no data. It doesn't say Kris has a save file really, more that by default the save file is connected to Kris, but you take control.

It would be wonderful if you did more of character analyses like Papyrus'. Especially if you did one with Asgore , he is easily one of the most multi-layered characters in Undertale yet all he is one of the most misunderstood.

I do have an argument for Kris being possessed by another entity besides us. Ralsei states that the SOUL is the culmination of our being, same as Flowey does in Undertale. Likewise, in Undertale it was apparent that humans persisted as their SOULs even after death. The 6 human SOULs still held traits of their former lives and were able to counter Flowey with their own will. With this evidence and the "culmination of being" line, it seems to be heavily implied that humans are inseparable from their SOULs, as it is their SOULs which define their identity rather than their bodies. Since Ralsei states this same "the SOUL is the culmination of your being" line, the same is likely true of human SOULs in Deltarune. Kris therefor should not be able to remove their own SOUL, as doing so would make them no longer Kris. The reason why I bring this up is to point out the major flaw in the idea that Kris slinks around like a zombie and has to put the soul back in because of some imaginary timer where the human body can survive without a soul. It's complete fanon that goes against what we already know about human souls, and was simply made up as a counter to the possession theory. A human shouldn't be able to exist separate from their SOUL, and if the Red SOUL is only the player, Kris should still have their own SOUL and be perfectly fine. If this is the case, and Kris can remove us at seemingly any point of their own will, then why bother putting us back at all? Why not remove us during points such as the Snowgrave route or talking to NPCs in Hometown where Kris is clearly uncomfortable with the situation? And simply put, if Kris can remove us at any point of their own will, are they still a puppet based on this supposed meta commentary? Furthermore, we also need to remember that we were forced into Kris by another entity, one which speaks suspiciously similar to post-genocide Chara, especially in the Japanese translation. So here is what I think is going on. I believe that the Red SOUL is actually both the soul of the player and Kris's soul after being connected together, similar to Asriel and Chara in Undertale. And the entity that forced us into Kris removes both of us so that they can possess Kris's body temporarily in order to push the story forward. The meta commentary here thus isn't just about the dichotomy of the player's choices and the character's, but there's another commentary about the inherent limitations of choices in video games compared to reality. The necessary progression of the video game's story is being represented as a puppet mastering antagonist forcing the game's plotline which neither we nor the characters can stop, hence why "your choices don't matter". I should also state that I don't think this entity is the Knight, but could be the one responsible for Jevil and Spamton's meta knowledge (I don't think Gaster is the one behind this since both seem to suggest a deeper dark carnival/amusement park motif which doesn't really befit a royal scientist.)

I actually headcannon that Kris was inspired by the Knight which is why they made a fountain at the end of chapter 2

ABOUT THE SAVE FILE While we can only access the file in the Dark World, we know full well that it is accessible, and even able to be edited in the Light World. Once the Chapter 1 ending occurs, the game automatically auto-saves in the room, without letting this spot in the file be accessible to the player. Once the file is continued in chapter 2, however, the location of it is "Your Room", clearly canonizing the save. tl;dr: the game saves in kris' room, in order for that location to be available in chapter 2, therefore save files are very well accesible in the light world.

one thing i would like to note: the knife that kris held at the end of chapter 1 looks different to the one at the start of chapter 2 (though this maybe just be the angle) the chapter one knife blade looks the same size as then handle, whereas the chapter 2 blade is a bit longer going forwards (if you know what i mean)

I got a theory! You know how we don't see papyrus in deltarune, maybe he's the knight. I mean, probably not most likely but its weird how we don't see him, and before that we didn't really know much about his origins. I'm just saying, the skele bros are kinda suspicious

One problem with the double doors theory is that while the supply closet (Ralsei's Castle Town) does have double doors, the abandoned classroom (chapter 1 world) does not, nor does Kris's living room / the TV (presumably chapter 3 world).

For me, the strongest arguement is TOBY FOX LITERALLY TELLING US (1:39)

What if Kris opened the door before making the fountain to let the knight in? I’m not really sure why they would do this but considering the previous two dark worlds were already influenced by the knight when we arrived I think it will be the same by the time we get control in chapter 3. Otherwise it doesn’t seem like the antagonist would have any reason to protect the dark fountain or try to spread more darkness like the previous ones. Maybe Kris is setting a trap for the knight? Luring them in with a new dark world so they can learn more about them?

The real nail in the coffin is that neither King nor Queen ever recognize Kris. We know they both have seen the Knight, and idolize them, so they'd very clearly recognize and say something to Kris if Kris were the Knight.

What if the knight is quite literary the night? As in darkness personified and darkworlds kinda just apear in dark spaces like a empty classroom or libarby. This is assuming that the knife thing is a fake out again.

One thing that bothers me about your speculation of how the library fountain was opened is Berdly and Noelle not seeing the Knight open the fountain basically in front of them. With it being so noisy and visually striking, you'd think they would notice (also, they'd probably find it pretty weird to see someone simply enter the computer room and hide in the large closet for whatever reason. I still think it's more likely that the Knight made the fountain before they entered the computer room.

I still think its asgore being the knight, ok so few things, Motive: Trying to find a cure for his best friend (healing magic working in dark world + noelle's comment on wishing it would work in the real world), interacting & having adventures to escape reality (his situation isn't exactly great due to financial issues and relationships with others), a way to reconnect with their kids (possible that he has met ralsei and that's the reason ralsei knows the locations in the school, since toriel is a teacher there asgore would most likely also previously been inside) Other things: being the previous police chief its possible he had access to locked buildings & retained them explaining how he got into places; the "large person" quote for the closet; him being entirely missing from ch.2; asgore in undertale had a reluctant dark side to him involving killing children, not saying he does that in deltarune, just the shady side being a factor; asgore also wearing knightly armor in undertale; asgores fridge containing one of the places for the multiplying gaster egg to be placed potential problems with this (that I can think of): if sagore has met ralsei why would he be creating dark fountains if ralsei would discourage him from doing so, probably doesn't still have the "keys to the town", no clear indication that he's involved in any of this (that we know of/have seen), non-solid reasons for creating multiple dark fountains beyond seeing what worlds are made/revealed, asgore might not have been able to make the first fountain for ch.1, or at least we wouldn't know or see any indication of. idk, thoughts? lol

Honestly, I always thought that Dess would be the knight. I don't know why, but it always felt like it would have someone who we have barely seen be the big baddie. But then again, it does seem pretty obvious.

I think ralsei isn’t an object on Kris just because his object likely belongs to the storage closet rather than the unused classroom, hence why he was able to stay at the castle town. Also, I think that explains why he can travel to other dark worlds. Since the closet’s fountain is pure darkness that can accommodate for any darker, and darkers are representative of their dark world, then it would make sense for Ralsei to be able to accommodate to other worlds. How exactly he was able to travel I have no clue on lol, but I really do appreciate your videos on whether kris is the knight or not! I never really believed that they were, and it’s nice to see that not everyone does lol

I think that the closet sort of implies them as an adult, but I’m curious to seeing exactly who bc there is no clear guess at this point without just immediately going for Gaster. Like when Nerdley uses the word "dextrose" as a way of saying "that's sweet" and then follows it up with "stay sanguine." 5:10 '90s LAN party room. 6:40 The Toby-go-nuts mythos is chock full of esoteric symbolism, much of it with what appears to be a Kabbalic flavor. Pewdiepie described Undertale as "an Illuminati game" for exactly that reason, but the Illuminati's goals are more political, not mystical. They do recruit through the Freemasons, though, and the Freemasons borrow a lot of iconography from Kabbala. Toby-go-nuts is from Boston which has been a Masonic stronghold since before the American Revolution. Other cultures of Antiquity, throughout the Near East and Middle East, made use of that "winged sun" symbol in one iteration or another. Most scholars corroborate that its meaning has something to do with the worship of royalty as divinity. Remember that Undertale's version of Asgore pointed out that he "never wanted power."

7:01 this isn't really related to the video, but the promotional posts on Undertale's twitter account seemed to have been made by Gaster, and he presented Deltarune as if he was its creator. This leads me to think "the prophecy" is the story as he wrote it (in-universe), with the player saving the world from evil gods with the power of Friendship, and that the alternate "B-side" route is messing this up. (Toby Fox has explicitly said that there is only 1 ending, so you'll probably save the world regardless, just without the 'friendship' part.) The Japanese translation implies that the voice that discards your vessel isn't the same one who created it. This makes me think that Gaster gave you control of the soul, and wanted to make a body for you to use, but some other entity put the soul into Kris. There is a distinction there from how people usually seem to frame it. I think that Gaster didn't specifically have the goal to possess Kris, and the player isn't stealing Kris' existing soul. (This also sort of avoids the bizarre implication some fans make, that you're a bad person for playing a video game) I also presume the "voice" that Noelle was talking about in the B-side route was either Gaster or the other entity, who speaks to the characters when the soul selects an option. It makes no sense for this voice to be the player, as you obviously don't control the game via speech.

Another things that explains that Kris is not the Knight: If the fountain was made in the night it should has been noticable that someone broke in, yet nothing has been tampered. Kris state when they don't have the soul make them a bit slow and sluggish and who knows if they can even last long without the soul. Remember when we meet the Queen the first time? The first thing she says and I quote: "Hell Of A Study Section." This expecific line means that she knew about Berdly and Noelle studying on the Computer lab, which shouldn't had been possible if the fountain was made the last night. Some people already had been mention it, the fact that there are just 2 chapters, why would Toby show the Knight this early?

Personally, I really hope Napstablook is the one to show up instead of Undyne. I feel like it would be a very Toby Fox move to set up all these signs that Undyne will learn about the Dark Worlds that instead its Napstablook who shows up. They are a police officer after all. Who knows? Maybe Undyne still dealing with the traffic jam from earlier, and so Napstablook shows up. Toby could even make it funnier by when you tell Undyne this time, you mention Napstablook, too which Undyne mentions Napstablook is always seeing weird stuff and managing to show it to other people, referencing the even where Frisk and Napstablook share a moment of peace with each other in Undertale.

3:50 uh uh uh, no no no, Kris is shambling around out of bed at the end of chapter 1 before they ever remove the soul from themselves. That doesn't disprove it. And even if it is the case that they don't want us controlling them then why would they put the soul back in? Also if the Kris is possessed to control the fountains then of course the Knight is a separate entity from Kris.

I actually had a conversation with a friend of mine about ralsei. They asked me why he didn’t turn into a statue and how did he get to the cyber world? I told them my theory. Ralsei comes from castle town, who’s dark fountain is made of pure darkness. While the others come from a fountain that is not. Because of that, the others don’t have a specific kind of darkness that the cyber world has. Since Ralsei comes from a place of pure darkness, this makes him compatible with many dark worlds. As long as castle towns fountain is flowing he’ll be ok. As for the moving between worlds, I got an idea. Remember in the legend story in the first chapter? When Ralsei says there was another dark fountain that appeared that was the world from chapter 1. If he could see that fountain was open he would be able to see/sense the cyber world fountain. Also notice how castle town isn’t part of the first dark world since it’s still there after the fountain was sealed? Remember how we entered a door to get to the first world? That could be a way that Ralsei could get to the cyber world.

Personally, I think that the Knight is going to not be an existing character. Specifically, according to chess theory, it will be the final boss of the chapter 3-5 block, and King and Queen have not themselves been identities of existing characters.

I found the idea of the knight sneaking around in Hometown absolutely hysterical, I don’t think that’s the case. The knight in all likelihood has some way of moving through the dark world or possibly underneath Hometown
