i would also like to mention that the mayor having something against asgore might come from the reletionship between rudy and asgore it could be that they get along so well while she cant, or maybe that (as that one convo from the winter alarm clock suggests) asgore might be bi
i had no idea asgore ended up being so hated i knew he was the buttmonkey a lot in the comunity (probably due to that pacifist bit), but actually hated? poor guy
Honestly, when i play through the True Lab after playing TP and Genocide, all i can think about is the end of the Undying fight, and how she was melting just like them. If she had held on any longer…what would have became of her?
Papyrus, I believe is holding back Cause he never will you want to kill But given the fact That He Probably has the strength of sans ×3 Because of his stats. So think about karma Damage ×3 and to be honest He's holding back in his fight he's special attack is a blast a gaster blaster So he probably has the same magic as sans amf flowey so interested in him and knows how strong he is So think about what would happen if you got on his bad side.
This comment is years late but I’d like to mention something. To anyone confused about why sans says “we haven’t met” in chapter 2 is because you have to press a button when starting chapter 2 to continue off of your previous save file from chapter 1, keeping your stats, money, items, weapons ect
There's something lowkey incredibly heartwarming and complex-feeling about the fact that these deaths, no matter how important like Papyrus or Undyne or even minor like Snowdrake and the doggos are actively acknowledged by others and in a way reflects real life A lot of people often feel like theyre alone in this world, how no one would care about them, or if their difference and presence really makes that difference in the world and if they were to die or disappear if anyone would even care about them. Its really hard to get out of a mentality like this but one so easy to fall into if you've had prior negative expriences, I say this with complete understanding But in this game you can experience first hand that a person, no matter how big or small their influence is in the world, matters. The fact that a character as minor as Snowy's death is felt by having him being replaced by Chilldrake who is actively looking for them moved me especially. Someone so, emotionally detached speaking, minor and otherwise another enemy you encounter having a little moment where you see they really did matter to someone else in their lives If you were to pass away or disappear, there will be people out there that will be affected by your loss, some that you might know would do so or maybe even someone out there you wouldn't expect to do so. Some might not bat an eye too much about you when youre alive but will mourn when youre gone, it is sad but not uncommon as taking lives for granted does occur. Some might not even realise how much you've made an impact on them until it's too late. But point is you do have an impact on people, and whether they or you realise it,, you do matter. It might be felt on a greater scale, it might be felt on a lesser scale, but regardless of such it will be felt by others that had direct or indirect involvement in your life. You will be remembered by those in your lives I loved Undertale as a kid but I really never was fully able to grasp its true themes or details back then upon current self-reflection. Revisiting it upon pure whim and curiosity has really made me love the game even more noww But remember You do matter, you're you, your choices do matter and your life does matter (be it to yourself and/or to others around you), and its all in the cards of how you decide to play out your story
If I had a dollar for every time I played a game with the core mechanic of dodging bullets, set in a community isolated from the outside world with some advanced tech like robots but generally filled with outdated hand-me-downs from the outside, while the outside world is highly technologically advanced, I would have two dollars. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it's happened twice.
You can literally go the entire game and never hear anything about Gaster. Unless you engage in the online fandom or get the fun events, he's a non-entity for the story of the game itself and is likely more important to Deltarune.
Absolutely amazing video! Another work that uses leitmotifs to a degree that it's kind of intimidating is Homestuck, with the Skaia motif repeated throughout a lot of the most impactful parts of the story! (Toby worked on the soundtrack a lot though, so that's no surprise though, lol.)
As a big Sonic nerd, I didn't notice all of these references to Live and Learn in the like 4 times I have replayed SA2 :o I am both truly surprised and I appreciate this game even more now
Of course every human soul has determination, as well as a mix of the other 6 traits. The soul color just shows which trait is the MOST prominent for that person. Frisk has a red soul, and shows more determination than any other color. So, we associate determination with red. If it's not determination, then maybe Toby shouldn't have left soooo many implications that point to it being so. Though if it's really not determination, then love/LOVE would be the next most likely possibility. Also, determination can't be yellow. Justice is yellow.
My theory is while Chara had a bit too much exposure to humanity, Kris didn't have enough. There isn't a single other human in his entire hometown, so maybe he feels lonely.
Muffet is defo the next Deltarune Boss. Don’t believe me? Reverse the order of Bosses you fight in Undertale Genocide and then look at the Bossess you fight in Deltarune. It goes Jevil then spamton. Jevil looks like sans and spamton looks like Mettaton and who you fight before Mettaton is Miss Muffet
Fans give all of that a free pass and hate on Alphys because Muffet is "cute" and Alphys "isn't". This fandom is shallow and has such a surface level understanding of this game.
Undertale fanon has taught me that large groups of people will obsess over characters they barely know anything about and flanderize them worse than a Simpsons writer ever could. It's also taught me that people claiming to be hardcore fans will forget that 3/4s of the characters even exist.
"Share some of [my] favorite examples," eh? You already have, so dang! Though, outside of what you've already mentioned, Monster Hunter does a lot more with letimotif than I first expected when getting into the series, as does its RPG spinoff series-- Monster Hunter Stories. And this series' has themes that reach across basically all the titles, to the point that it's more than just a title theme. I mean there isn't much to say about Proof of a Hero that hasn't already been said, but they manage to build it up in every title such that you'll get just about the same push of inspiration when hearing it during the final boss.
Every Undertale character is intentionally written to be morally flawed. If ya hate one character, you HAVE to hate them all. If any of the characters were perfect, then the Mercy button wouldn't really be "mercy", would it?
EVERY character in Undertale is INTENTIONALLY written to be morally flawwed. Why is ALPHYS the only one being called out for it? Is it cuz she's a woman who "isn't hot"? Muffet is like 10 times worse!
The red soul represents the basic human characteristic of Survival. The game calls out dangers, LOVE, and character ties in red. The game also makes it clear that the red is linked with ones self. In buddhism and Hinduism, red represents the root chakra, which is responsible for your survival, but also the basics for intellect, mindset, consciousness, and ego. Not to mention that the LOVE system increases ATK, DEF, and HP, all act to increase ones chance of Survival. In short; Red represents YOU and Survival. (Plus a good question; If chara had a red soul, why did they try suicide? If the red soul is Determination, then why would they even consider suicide, let alone comit Suicide?)
So maybe this comment will sound stupid or irrelevant to most, but I’d like to speak from a personal point of view. When I was younger, I didn’t speak English. Like, at all. I thought “of course” meant something to do with racing. During those times, I played Pokémon in English. I couldn’t read anything happening and I didn’t understand what was happening, but I had fun regardless! Then I played Explorers. Again, I didn’t know the story, only could gleaned information haphazardly. But that soundtrack… It pulled me in. I didn’t know WHAT I was playing, but I knew it was special. I didn’t know what was happening, but it moved me. Made me laugh, made me angry, made me bawl my eyes out. That game… Made me a gamer. And I will forever hold that game as something truly special.
