Demi Lovato opened up about her experiences on 'Sonny With a Chance' during a virtual reunion with her former castmates. Exclusives from #ETonline : • NEW From Entertainment...
J.T. Ogbatue they don’t care (Amanda Bynes ,Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears are all under convership so their family literally profits off of them being mentally unstable
Sadly Hollywood could give a fuck less about the children in the industry.. especially since they rape and abuse these children, hence why they grow up with extreme mental issues and drug addictions.
As long as the consumer keeps buying it, the industry will keep making it. The problem is having such young, vulnerable children in the industry in the first place.
I can’t believe I never considered how overworked she and the other big Disney stars must’ve been. They were constantly in tv shows, movies, putting out albums, going on concert tours, all while still technically being minors and in school. I even remember that Miley’s sixteenth birthday was advertised as being this big event held at Disneyland and “everyone is invited!” Can you imagine your birthday party being turned into a giant promotional event?
There is an old interview of Britney Spears when she was 16 and the interviewer asked her what she was doing for the week. She listed so many thing and said I know it’s a lot but I’m great full. You could see how exhausted she was. They completely over worked her and that explains why she had a breakdown.
It's a normal schedule for kpop groups. Sleep is nonexistent and they have extreme dieting restrictions where they eat nothing but water, exercise, dance, interviews, record music, choreographies , variety shows, list goes on.
That proves a lot though. She’s the proof that money and fame isn’t everything. She had what most people wanted by the looks of it but on the inside she wasn’t the person people wanted to be. You can be the most famous or richest person in the world and won’t be happy but then you could be out there on the street with nothing to do but hang out with whatever family you have and be the happiest person in the world.
Yup, I had never watched Sony with a chance until quarantine started and I just finished all 2 seasons, until I didn’t understand why Demi was no longer there? I found this video and I understand now :/ I felt so bad for her but I’m glad she’s a lot happier now :)
I feel like Selena Demi and Miley are the way they are now because they were like the main faces of Disney so Disney would try as much as they could to push them cuz they were probably making the channel the most money and then in top of them having to keep a image they weren’t like at all they were touring and singing also so that’s 10xs more difficult and they never had a off day
MsTecnofan Well to be fair in Hillary duffs time a person could profit a lot more on the younger market and it was easier to do so while still being taken seriously and genuinely considered a ‘star’. While from miley,Selena and Demi period although they could profit of the child market it was starting to be short lived and reaching stardom became more than appealing to a child audiences. Thus the all had to drastically mature their images to not only achieve success but to actually be taken seriously
well, it seems like Demi is still bing miserable and angry, soo problematic singer, she literally doesnt deserve everything she has, and I should know I have a bipolar disorder with manic depression also, its not an excuse for the things she does , Selena is not that problematic and also isnt Miley, its only Demi, I dont also understand why people were supporting her overdosing, they for sure dont care about random young girl overdosing at home , if this happens to a normal person then she usually loses everything ...Demi didnt face any consequences
@@noel2882 okay yes thats right I really dont know but it just makes me angry that people treat her with soo much support...when other people just like her who are not famous or rich need this support soo much more , Demi doesnt care about some random fans opinion, she cares about opinions of her loved ones...they are the ones who should deal with it, as for the fans I feel like it would be actually good for her if she gets backlash for example for overdosing, because if you ever face any consequences for your actions then you will never change, people close to her have to support her in those times but for sure not her fans, if normal poor not famous girl overdoses at home...she loses everything most of the time and that really teaches you something when you have to deal with your mess yourself , you know never to do that again, but f spoiled rich famous Demi Lovto overdoses...and everybody is treating her like she is most important person on the planet then how is she learning something from this? ts like just another day.... yeh overdosed but so what nothing bad happened to my career...so now I know that I can get away with this in the future...she has gotten away with it in the past also
They are close. They have continuously supported each other. Tiffany has always been super supportive of Demi's career and her recovery (she was quick to post and support Demi after the Grammys and the SuperBowl), and Demi vice versa with Tiffany, not so publicly cuz she did stop acting a while ago. I'd say that this cast is the only one that seems to have remained actual friends.
Are sterling and Demi still friends? I noticed a whole ago that they didn’t follow each other on insta and I feel like his vibes on the zoom call where kinda off
@@breianahpeterson5684 friends doesn't have to follow each other on Instagram, maybe they have a lot in common that people don't need to know, they have their own privacy too
A lot of people don’t know but Tiffany lost her first husband in a car crash. They had 2 kids together. She still looks beautiful despite what she went through.
How can people say she’s whining and complaining?? This girl has been through so much and the fact that she still shares her issues with the world, even though her depression came from the world, she’s helping out so many people who are going through similar situations. Y’all ignorant af, wait until you’re depressed and someone tells you to stop whining about it, then you’ll know how much it’s means to talk about your problems out loud
Jenny Wat The problem is that every time she comes back with a new era: she always has the same message of self-love and female empowerment when it is quite clear that she is still very insecure herself. She is constantly tearing down and feuding with other famous women such as Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Zendaya etc. I feel like she says she’s okay but she never is. I very much sympathize with her though. She seemed so euphoric during her time on Disney Channel, but she now says that she was miserable. She seemed happy during the Confident era but we learned not too long ago that this was a terrible time for her since she was depressed and had gone through a difficult breakup. The Tell Me You Love Me era seemed like an amazing positive moment for her but it turns out that this was the first time she relapsed in years. I hope she is really doing okay now, but
Agreed. Shes not even like whiny crying asking for attention either. Shes candid, laughing about it, and just being honest. Not trying to hide it. Theres a huge difference between speaking your truth for sympathy and attention, and just being honest and real and not hiding it. And talking about it often, lowers the stigma around it and makes it harder to dismiss it. Everyone in my life knows i have depression, anxiety, been suicidal, abused, etc. I talk about it, i joke about it. And its not like oh poor her. Its just a part of me. It always will be. And thats important. Because it helps u get through it.
Sophia Arias I mean we all have our bad days of insecurity. No one heals perfectly, you can still spread the message of self love and female empowerment while having bad days here and there. You say that “it is quite clear that she is still very insecure herself” is asking her to be perfect all the time when in reality she’s not. If that’s a problem then everybody in the world, even the ones empowering women, are the problem too. Everybody has bad days. And for all the feuds, the same girls you mentioned have feuds of their own. Taylor with Kim and Kanye, Nicki with Miley, Nicki with Lil Kim, Mariah with Jlo, Selena with Justin, hailey, Bella, weekend. If you “very much” sympathize with her you wouldn’t expect her to be secure with herself while promoting self love and female empowerment
5,ooo LightYears Away you don’t know what’s gonna happen before you do it it was like her first time doing tv and she had a contract she had to work there a couple of years before she can quit or they sue her
I love that she’s finally being comfortable with herself, struggles and all! Life can get extremely hard for a lot of people and some individuals don’t make it through.
when she said she was freezing and had it at 98 degrees i thought she had a thyroid problem. just looked it up, and she said she had a thyroid problem.
No... i am sure she mentioned that she was freezing cause she suffered from an eating disorder and was eating too little and was too skinny and therefore she was freezing 😔
Thyroid issues can mess your body up mentally and physically. I had mine removed almost 2 months ago. Best decision I’ve ever made. I feel like my old self again.
It's because the industry that they're in see's you as a dollar sign and something to be sold to the viewers. They don't care about the actor's/singers health. As long as they can become a household name and make money.
Demi is a household anyways because of her music. Don’t even think she really needed Sonny with a chance because camp rock came out first and that made her career soar
@@paigemann5157 That's exactly why Disney was like that. They knew they had a pop star in their power. They did the same to Miley Cyrus but it was too late for them to do to Selena
Josh G Selena actually has a positive experience from Disney being one of the few big stars that talk about it positively in the past and the current Sooooo.... who knows
@@mai.vancon But she was also overworked and was making Disney money with all the that's so raven merchandise. I guess she's fine with it but she's not really the lead in the reboot, she shares it with her kids so it's less work
@@mai.vancon she didn't fully understand what was happening and why she felt the way she did. she was 19 when she left, she was a child pushed into the spotlight while not understanding how to cope. she's said she had no idea she was bipolar until she was diagnosed etc and was extremely relieved to finally know what was going on and how to cope with it. mental illness is far more complicated than you think. it's hard to speak up when you don't know what's going on
I remember watching a q and a with her and Selena on their RU-vid channel. They answered the question "is it a lot of pressure to be in Disney channel?" and the way they said "no" and how they talked up Disney and what a wonderful place it was to work seemed so sincere. They really were brainwashed.....or never were allowed to be themselves.
I think the pressure came shortly after that Q&A because that was filmed shortly after the filming of Camp Rock and before their careers went into overdrive (with wizards, Sonny, and Demi’s debut album being released) I’m sure there was pressure but it didn’t kick in till like the 2008-2009 season as they were seen EVERYWHERE During that time.
Why is everyone always miserable filming anything for disney! I feel like Disney needs to create some kind of program for self -love or self-care for their actors cuz man
@@corimoon3360 But a lot of their female stars (or stars in general) DON’T end up with issues. Selena had completely unrelated health problems and Miley didn’t really have any issues (aside from growing pains and drug experimentation) to speak of. I do recall Miley being unhappy with her experience, but I think she just grew out of Disney quickly and felt pressure to be squeaky clean.
I hope Disney and Nickelodeon are now taking care of the mental and physical health of their young actors and shelter them from the danger of over exposure. She was the light of that show, they should have worried about her.
dove cameron has talked about her experience and has said it was nothing but great. Hopefully the network has turned a tide and started treating and supporting their children better.
@@Talierau3 I think they have. I haven’t seen negative press about Disney Channel’s working conditions since the Demi/Miley/Selena days. Demi was probably a wake up call for them. It was a bad look and cost them financially. It also seems like they don’t pressure their stars to have singing careers anymore.
Holly Price she regrets and is ungrateful for being on Disney channel just like other stars who’ve bashed the network if it wasn’t for Disney they wouldn’t be where they are right now, Disney made them famous
Jorge Maldonado while I agree that she shouldn’t ungrateful for where she got her fame but you do realize that she started using drugs for Disney! To keep a perfect image! Because they wanted her to be pretty, perfect, and all! Like Selena && Miley. So agree to disagree / kinda agree because again she shouldn’t be ungrateful.
Jorge Maldonado i don't see how she's being ungrateful though. she literally said she loved sonny but she just would rather work on a different project then go back to a place that caused her to go down a bad road in the first place. she was a teenager being overworked and forced to basically be perfect on disney just like other disney stars. she's allowed to feel negatively about that
@@jorgemaldonado3758 I don’t she is ungrateful she was just way too overworked and couldn’t enjoy any of it lol. Remember she was also working on a movie, albums and on tours
She was miserable and sad but i couldnt noticed that, I enjoyed seeing demi on sonny with a chance she was funnyy right. I am happy you're in a better place right now my queen💚🙌🏽👋🏽
🙄 Disney isn’t to blame- her family life and her choices are - she comes from a broken home with 2 addicts as parents- one addicted to drugs/alcohol and abusive and one addicted to an eating disorder... Demi would be messed up no matter where she ended up- whether her life was “normal” in childhood or not .... she also has talked about how her and her friend (also from a broken home) decided to start drinking and doing drugs - she claims she wanted to bc her dad had been an addict (before he died) and she wanted to know why he loved drugs so much 🤷🏼♀️ and of course mental illness is genetic... so basically she would be (in terms of her personal life) the same or worse off than she is now (bc if she hadn’t had all that money from Disney she probably wouldn’t have gone to rehab for her ED or the drugs and would probably be dead)
I feel so bad for Demi, she’s gone through so much from her childhood into adulthood and she’s so brave and strong and such a genuine person, and she is one of those people that I love so much. God bless Demi, I’m so proud of her for staying strong and getting better
Hope they can have another reunion like this! But minus the so random people. I never got into that show when Demi left SWAC...anyone else feel the same?
I wonder how many days Demi would be unable to sleep and just write songs... I have been suffering from insomnia lately and I would love to hear how she went through with it..
She was probably having manic episodes (even though she has come out as bipolar, I don’t think she has every gotten prescriptions for it).... what she described sounded like a manic episode
Absolutely no hate to Demi but the irony of saying “it’s doesn’t matter what you wear” whilst sitting causally in Balenciaga STANS educate yourself on Irony before being offended just to defend. It’s bantz. A bit of lighthanded shade.
I am watching the show on Disney + and now knowing everything and how miserable, I realized she was faking her happiness just so Disney can make money off of her and her co stars. I have been a Demi Lovato fan since the first Camp Rock and will always be a fan no matter what because she is a kind loving person who is so relatable to many young girls and inspiring. I hope she is doing better now.
With an ED you can never see it- her mother is the one who forced an ED on her as her mother openly had an ED from when Demi was young (as well as doing so to her full sister who they’ve hinted also has an ED)- her ED stems from her childhood
I think there is no other Disney star out there who went through more pain than Demi she’s so resilient and strong and she overcame everything I love her
steven topper Nope. If you haven’t noticed Disneychannel shows only go up to 4 seasons maximum. That’s due to their kid stars growing older and the show getting more expensive to produce as the seasons go on. They cancel shows by season 4
I admire this woman so much! She’s been through a lot. From an eating disorder to drug addiction. And I believe she might’ve gone through sexual abuse too.. based on her song ‘warrior’ and stuff she’s said throughout the years. God bless her heart ❤️
I was going through depression during this time, as well. I get how she feels. I don't wanna remember that, either. I was 11. It was hard to gain confidence in myself, but I did. 😄
Sone Selenator if we got a season 4, she probably would’ve led to a lot worse than what she already had to deal with. I’m happy that she stopped doing the show when she did. Her sanity wasn’t worth it
Trinity nobody Bullshit! Plus nobody asked for your opinion she just ungrateful just like many other Disney channel who years later have bashed the network and considering that if it wasn’t for being on Disney they wouldn’t be where they are right now they’re so ungrateful. Then how come other Disney channel are grateful and have nothing but positive things about their time on the network
It’s important to put your mental health first no matter what you paycheck amount is. It doesn’t matter that they’re rich. They’re not whining- nobody wants to feel overworked and depressed and like shit. We only live one time. Don’t live only to work.
I'm watching sonny with a chance on disney plus rn, and just watching her talk about her experience on it and how she had a eating disorder and was just kinda miserable makes me feel so sad/sorry for her. it's like when I watch that show I'm watching her be miserable but act happy for the camera.
EDs never go away- they can either kill you or be managed... she has an ED bc her mother has an ED and wasn’t hiding her ED or body image issues from her 2 daughters (they have hinted that her full sister also has an ED) starting when they were really young 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Honestly I never knew how much they work Her and Selena and Miley Cyrus like they were the Face of Disney Channel yes I loved watched all the stuff they were in but i always i feel like they would be so much more happier if they walked way from the spot light and live a happy life and i know they love doing music and stuff and i love listening to them because there amazing 🙏🏽💯
I absolutely love Demi. She is a deep person and she always has the most interesting insights. I could talk with her for days & days and never get bored.
I absolutely adore Demi 💓 I’m 5 years older, but she gives me so much inspiration and strength. God Bless her for everything she is and everything she’s done to change the world.
I understand what she went through, so I find she made the right decision after season 2 of Sonny With a Chance to take a break from the spotlight and focus more on her health, I totally supported that decision, and right now I am glad to see she is doing much better!
Yes when I watched the whole zoom call of the cast and listening to Demi’s stories of how she never had leisure time or time to breathe and she was so young was just so sad💔 They should really apologize for contributing to such a dark time in the life. I’m so glad she’s better fr
I wish she could write a memoir of her recovery, I'm certain it would be powerful. It gives me chills because when I read Jennette McCurdy's book, I have felt inspired to go forward with healing from my eating disorder, you know it's just not easy it's not at all. Some part of me feels encouraged that she is brave enough to go back three times. Seriously, eating disorders can sneak up on you and I have stopped and started getting better at least three times myself. I was starting to get a complex but now I am knowing that this is not abnormal. I am 45, let's hope the third time is the charm. I can't imagine trying to get better in the spotlight.
Literally watching Sonny w/ my 18 y/o daughter and now 10 y/o son. My 10 y/o loves it. Sonny was such a big part of my daughter’s childhood. It’s sad, she was so unhappy. We loved the show back then and just as much now. Demi, Selena and Miley were definitely the money makers back then.
It’s funny how the people in the comments are watching this video and prob watched the whole conference call and are still making their own stories to how she felt.
Voldemort was referred to as “the one who shall not be named.” It wasn’t until people started saying his name and slowly tearing him apart that he was weakened and referred to by his name that he was defeated. Making fun of a disease (NOT THE VICTIMS OF THE DISEASE) can actually help break down its power or at least help victims see that it can be defeated. Darkness doesn’t have a hold on you if you properly put it in its place. It’s difficult and some days are better than others, but any type of disorder can be defeated by people who remind themselves that it doesn’t own them. -A chronic pain sufferer
@@lorysmiley.1921 I completely understand your point and feelings about that. As someone who has struggled immensely with eating disorders and mental illness ever since childhood, I hurt so much for all the pain I've caused my family. I know they know it isn't my fault and that it is my illnesses. But it still doesn't take away my immense guilt for "putting them through that". One of the many ways I can possibly cope with everything is to make jokes about myself and my struggles with my mental illnesses. I desperately NEED that relief and coping mechanism to get through this. But at the same time I KNOW sometimes my family isn't up to hearing me joke about it. And I completely respect and understand that. Luckily though they know humor gets me through so they laugh along in good spirits and just pretend to roll their eyes and say "Ay mija". But I always try to stay sensitive enough to respect their feelings.
I honestly loved So Random (and I loved Sunny with a Chance) and always wished for Demi to be in it. If they make another whole project together, I hope is something comedy like. Something new, but similar? Like just some sketches would be fun. Not related to the old sketches. Despite all that happened, the whole cast really had great comedic compatibility
Sonny with a Chance was my favourite!!! Wishing there were more seasons, but health comes first! I will never understand how Demi was not eating properly and no one from Disney noticed??! Where are the Chaperones?
Honestly demi has been saying that she wasnt good for a while but ppl act like she is being dramatic. If ur child was doing a show, on tour, doing camp rock, and doing other favors or deals with disney at a young age u would know how intense it is. Demi didnt have a break and her team wasnt the best. She is also seen many times thanking ppl who brought her great moments and happiness. Have yall seen her documentary? It's not easy. I'm happy for everybody in disney now all grown. ♥️
*Y'know I was watching Sonny with a Chance a few weeks back and I couldn't help but be sad every episode I watched because in my head I KNEW that Demi wasn't happy or healthy and I couldn't watch it like I used to when I was young and laugh at almost anything they said like that anymore because I knew everything she dealt with having to leave the show and obviously in my opinion the show So Random! didn't feel the same without her I missed her I couldn't watch it and not feel bad for her to have to imagine those types of things that she went through and to see Sonny every other episode smiling and then knowing that Demi wasn't all that happy in real life, she was miserable*
*I kinda feel like it’s the parents fault as well for letting their kids work this hard.* as a parent you’re suppose to protect your kids and make sure they’re happy and healthy.
