Yeas have past when my brother and I found the new mascot,Some anthropomorphic cow that really liked chicken. I was just watching that movie right now and saw that they changed it to Pizza Hut. I thought I was losing my mind and I'm sitting here arguing with my girlfriend telling her that it was Taco Bell and she's telling me that it's Pizza Hut. I seriously thought I was experiencing Mandela effect

Watching this movie rt now (9-27-19) ..and tripped me out when i saw pizza hut..i was on some wtf type shit ..thought it was a mandela effect too lol..but for whatever reason it got changed..u can still see TACO BELL logos on the windows ,on the pizza hut version
For anyone who wants to know the reason for the changes of Taco Bell to Pizza Hut is because the executives were worried international audiences wouldnt be familiar with Taco Bell. But you can still find Taco Bell listed in the movie credits.
They say that but in UK at the time, we didnt have Taco Bell yet it was still that. Where I first heard of Taco Bell. European version is Pizza Hut... so why is UK still Taco Bell??

I’m in Belgium and we got the Taco Bell version too (saw it in the cinema), I know they had that version in Holland as well. The Japanese version of the movie however, has the Pizza Hut scene despite it being called the European cut 😅
@@tegarz You must not be from the U.S. Green Giant is a brand of canned and frozen vegetables here. Their ads started off with "Off in the valley of the jolly Green Giant." There was a kid character who talked called the Little Green Sprout, some farmers, and they always finished with the giant laughing "Ho Ho Ho..." and the jingle singers finished with "Green Giant!" If you search on RU-vid for "Green Giant ad" you'll find hundreds of them going back to the 1960s. Most are from the 70s and 80s.

The EU fucked you guys in interesting ways. So according to the director, Taco Bell wasn't in UK when this movie came out but they had Pizza Hut, so they changed it so UK wouldn't be in the dark about this running joke and because it was released in the EU, they just kept Pizza Hut for all of you.
Caesar Seriona given how often films are edited for the murican audience because they won't understand a reference, quite often out of their own ignorance, I'd say in this regards the yanks get fucked in more interesting ways. At the same time the EU has fuck all to do with the Pizza Hut edit.
in the uk it was aired with the taco bell version. i know this because the version i watched like 100 times back in the day always says taco bell. i go to stream this tonight and its a pizza hut version! i never knew they did this i was so surprised when they said pizza hut lol! they say it even in the sewer scene. it just sticks out that they are dubbing over it. but very clever the way they removed the taco bell logos and added the pizza hut sign etc
They alternate between the Pizza Hut and Taco Bell versions in the UK now. Though we do have Taco Bell's in the UK now, at a whopping three locations >.>
Having watched this movie (BOTH versions since I actually saw the Taco Bell version first, DESPITE living in the UK because I watched it WAY after the fact), you can actually see the taco bell logos still on the windows in some scenes, most notably when everyone's inside the restaurant and you get that shot of everyone at the table, since the angle is pointing towards the windows, and the Taco Bell logo is still there, but reversed.

I remember seeing the pizza hut stuff after I downloaded the movie one day and thinking, "wasn't it Taco bell?? someone edited this copy and just changed it to Pizza Hut" I guess, and I looked and could still see Taco Bell stuff.. lol It is neat to see this confirmed all these years later..lol
I think it's lame that they do things like this. Wouldn't British audiences understand that this is an American movie, so they'd come to the conclusion "Oh, Taco Bell must be an American restaurant chain." When I watch Edgar Wright's comedies, I just figured "These are British movies, so Cornetto must be an ice cream brand from over there." I was right. They didn't have to dub it over with Dreyer's or anything like that.
+Saintnick90 Lowest common demonimator, someone in Hollywood always thinks that the audience is incredibly stupid and wouldn't be aware of other's modern culture. Which is stupid in itself as there's countless movies with fictionalized fast food chains in them. At least leaving Taco Bell in the movie would be correct, In Austin Powers' movies they had Big Boy restaurants in London, when they've never existed here. They're not even national in the US.
+Saintnick90 TBH I think most of us have heard enough references to Taco Bell in American TV and films that we know what it is anyway. Same with the likes of Wallmart. We don't have those but we all know what it is. This will most likely be a case of the producers of the film knew they could get Pizza Hut to throw them some sponsor money if they advertised it in the film outside of the states. Taco Bell isn't going to pay for advertising in countries where there's no chance of an upturn in revenue, so they probably didn't kick up a stink to the change either.

@@Federico84 I'm french and used to dubbed movies and this is pretty bad. Maybe it's because we're focusing on it in this video, maybe it's because the rest of the dialog fits perfectly so the "Pizza Hutt" is like the one and only nail sticking out. But yeah, it feels like a chinese movie !
You should watch a Russian film,dubbed in Georgian,PLUS dubbed in English. ......you hear 3 languages, in fact you hear nothing.....much beter left the original language,plus subtitles in your language .
I was talking about this with my Uncle in Australia, and he swore it was always Taco Bell. We did have some here in the 80’s but by the 90’s they had largely pulled out of the Australian market, only to come back in 2017.
I only knew it was pizza hut when i was a kid but even then i found the lips weren't synced to the words being told and always disturbed me Glad i finally knew the truth. In any case, why were there 2 versions?
@@Beowulf95 I saw the Pizza Hut version first... And years later the Taco Bell. I was doubting my sanity at the time. Taco Bell was pretty unknown in Europe, while Pizza Hut was already established. So the USA got VHS tapes with Taco Bell. And Europe (and Australia, I think) got Pizza Hut. And the same happened on DVD releases which were only compatible with certain machines in certain locations across the world. Both brands are owned by the same parent company - now called Yum! Brands Inc.
Well I was very late to this party, mainly because I own this movie on DVD and VHS and both of mine only have Taco Bell, as it was intended. It was only tonight when I decided to buy a digital copy for my son to watch on Amazon Prime that I saw the "Pizza Hut" version, and it literally blew my mind! John Spartan's voice (Stallone) was clearly dubbed by someone else just to say "Pizza Hut", yet Huxley's voice sounded like it was still Sandra Bullock. I don't understand why they would waste their time dubbing and making terrible edits when they could've just shot the scene with Pizza Hut signage and props instead? And I'm in Australia by the way, and even I knew all about Taco Bell back in 1993, so this just seems like a stupid way to ruin a perfectly good movie.
This was the most blatant use of in movie advertising that I've ever seen. But it was damn funny too. I only wish that I could walk into a Taco Bell today & see a dude or better yet, a dudette playing "In the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant".
What about Cast Away with FedEx? Apparently they weren’t too keen initially given the plot involves one of their planes crashing and their employee going crazy on an island, but they agreed once they didn’t have to pay anything, giving the vehicles, uniforms, package boxes and even a cameo from the CEO in a scene! Their deliveries went up massively afterwards!
In Australia it was Taco Bell, despite not having it there. It was not until I moved to Europe did I see this on TV and they say Pizza Hut and I am like "Wait what?" You would think they would have at least done alternate takes and not just ADR'd it with bad lip syncing.
Since its got "TACO" in the name Taco-bell, people all over the world should have understood its a restaurant that serves taco's...No need to change it in my opinion.
The reason why most countries have no taco bell is that tacos aren't eaten in such countries in any significant proportions and they don't have many restaurants that serve them. At the time of this movie, average people in such countries wouldn't have even known what a taco is.
oh man! replying to a year old thread ..but 20 years ago mexican (or tex mex) food wasnt that well known in a lot of territories, and Taco Bell had very little international stores , so selling promotional space to Pizza Hut instead made sense.
I first saw this as Pizza Hut first, then I saw the Taco Bell a few years after. I had no idea they could do that with movies. But I do remember saying "hey what happened to Pizza Hut"
the taco bell logo is on the windows and name tags of the waiters. I have a DVD version of it and it also changed so it has nothing to do with what's hot taco bell or pizza Hut.
it was on Dutch tv again yesterday. We Dutch dislike dubbed versions of movies, so its original audio and Dutch subs. Normally they air the taco bell version. The weird thing: its the pizza hut audio version this time, but the subs say taco bell. :) So: you can see them see taco bell with their lips and you hear pizza hut and the subs say taco bell :) We never had or have taco bell restaurants over here. We do have pizza hut restaurants over here.
Seen this film loads and saw it in the cinema when was first released in uk back in the 1990s. Just watching this on ITV now and they said Pizza Hut when was expecting them to say Taco Bell. Never been to a Taco Bell but noticed that they changed it, so had to Google to check I wasn't going mad!

We don't have taco bell at my country and I've never seen one anywhere I traveled. Pizza Hut just got bankrupted in my country too (too expensive without being better than local pizzerias), so future generations will not understand either version. All american francises, actually, are doing really bad here, because everyone thinks they are serving awful food in quite high prices.
This was my favourite movie as a kid. it has always been taco beel for me. what i do however remember what is now gone is when wesley snipes is cornered in the info box by the police he said something along the lines of "im shaking in my boots/hi tops" can anybody else remember this?
I was watching this movie today for the first time in years. When they got to the part of going to the restaurant i couldn't believe my ears n eyes when they said pizza hut. I've seen this movie probably 100 times when it first come out when i was young. But today for the first time they said pizza hut instead of taco bell. I had to rewind it bc i thought i was crazy lol. I don't get why they'd charge it from taco bell to pizza hut buy whatever. Still a classic and awesome movie from my childhood.
Yeah, but this movie was shown and sold on VHS and DVD's in other countries as well. In Sweden, where I live, there are no Taco Bells - Of course, there aren't that many Pizza huts either. Most swedish pizza-places are privately owned and not part of a chain.
You also forgot the shot where the waiter brings their food and it's still Taco Bell style instead of pizza. I know this because I strangely have the Pizza Hut version.
If this film is about how a future run by people trying to protect one another is a bad thing (alongside a future run by people who want total chaos because "it's cool"), then it only makes sense to have Taco Bell as the only restaurant. Tumblr loves their Taco Bell.

How did they do it? Anyone can tell? I mean did they use CGI? Because if it's cgi, man then it has better cgi than in many 2021 movies. Also the food pot has the insert replaced. I always thought they filmed two different scenes with two different logos.
Just noticed this. Just please tell me someone else also noticed ALL of the small Taco Bell logos on the glass windows/front (Visible from about 1:09 to 1:25 in this clip.) Although, not really visible. You need to watch this on the actual movie to tell. -They didn't change these. So in the UK, it's a huge Pizza Hut logo in the front, and numerous small Taco Bell logoes on the windows.
