Theory: The next chapter will show the modern world with the main characters in their reincarnated selves. Bad demons started to emerge again, which will only be eliminated through the powers of Tanjiro and others, which still resides in their reincarnated bodies. Yushiro will still probably be alive to track down Tanjiro and the others and inform them about who they were in the past. Hence, the introduction to the sequal - the next generation of Demon Slayer.

I wouldn't really call Sanemi's interaction with Nezuko "romance". After he apologized to Nezuko for what he did to her, Nezuko's response reminded Sanemi of his late brother. So I interpreted Sanemi patting Nezuko's head as something an older brother would do to a little sister.

Sanemi tried to kill her when he first met her. And then she just reminded him of his younger brother. I don’t really see how you can go straight to a romance just cause nezuko got a little nervous. All of that was, in my opinion, sanemi apologizing for being a prick to nezuko and redeeming himself.

I believe that Nezuko reacted in that way because of hpw head pats are a form of brotherly love Tanjiro has usually given to her. Much like how Sanemi is reminded of his younger brother upon hearing what Nezuko said. There are no romantic aspect to it.

I kinda of want Sanemi x Nezuko just because people are so sure that Zenitsu's one sided feelings MUST be answered. that and the fact that Sanemi literally has nothing left, plus Nezuko SEEMS to have shown the more romantic response to Sanemi then Zenitsu. just because Sanemi might not like Nezuko doesn't mean it might not be the other way round

Honestly, I do not know how a modern Demon slayer would work. I mean, with 20th century technology a demon wouldn't stand a chance. We can even replicate the suns Ray's so everyone would have Ray guns (literally).

Sanemi and Nezuko scene looks more like a callback of how he saw and treated her the first time they were introduced; we're talking about the guy that until the very end looked like he rejected his brother, Tanjiro and for extension Nezuko. He being happy that their sibling bond was stronger until the end doesn't look impossible.

What about yuushirou? He's the last demon right? So he could still be alive in the modern world...

I would Imagine Sanemi more like a Guardian for Nezuko rather than a Partner, Giyu I’m 99.9% sure he will be the Kamado sibling’s Guardian, but there might be a chance Sanemi will be as well while Urokodaki has been acting much more like a *Father* I still ship Nezuko with Zenitsu. I think I like Zenitsu x Nezuko, Aoi x Inosuke and Tanjiro x Kanao more than a random Sanemi headpat makes him into a partner for Nezuko.
