I tried the wiim mini pro with the pontus II and was not at all impressed. I love the combination of the lumin u1 mini with the Pontus II. Happy birthday, Alvin🎉
Happy Birthday Alvin! Glad to see you healthy and back to normal. Good review, don’t forget to try the digital eq correction settings, they perform very well if needed. Cheers, -ds
To my knowledge, for those interested in Denafrips be aware they have a NO return policy. I also had sync issues with the Ares 2 optical connection. They only inform you about this in the FAQ’s so buyer beware! It should be noted, I was easily able to sell the unit, but it was an inconvenience nevertheless.
As much as we would love to have a return policy, the current business model just couldn’t allow us to do that. As you could imagine, the high freight costs, customs import duties/fees, as well as resources involve to handle the returns, pose great challenges to our lean business model. If we were to provide a return policy, we will not be able to sustain at the current pricing level. We have to strike a balance here in order to keep everybody happy. We seek your kind understanding and consideration in this matter. Many thanks.
@@VinshineAudio Thanks for sharing, this information should be shared on your website so customers can make a proper decision on the interest of your products!
This is good information, but I will say that the dacs maintain their value. I sold my ares to upgrade to the pontus and got what I paid for it because the price had gone up in the six months that I had it, and they were behind in production.
Happy birthday Alvin. I don't know when you recorded this but my b'day is 17th Nov. Maybe we share? We certainly share enthusiasm for Denafrips Dacs. You have just shippped my Pontus to my UK retailer. Happy birthday me!
Hi Alvin. Is there any way one can improve wiim mini's performance even further, apart from adding a battery powered/ linear power supply? As a power supply kit was developed for bluesound node, I wonder if there could be something like a small optical only kind of ddc to improve its output to a dac and raise the sound quality even more. (Also a lot of other products could benefit from this as there A LOT of products - other streamer also - that rely on optical out.) I think it could be worth it as the software and features are really excellent and keep on improving. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Dennis! It works via Airplay. Stay tuned for the update: faq-mini.wiimhome.com/support/solutions/articles/72000527452-will-this-work-with-roon-
Hi Alvin, would you say it is worth using a a better streamer such as the Bluesound node as Transport as opposed to the Wiim mini when feeding a Denafrips Ares ii in a midfi system eg one where speakers are say £1200 GBP and amp say £1000 GBP in order to get better sound quality ? What percentage improvement in sound quality do you think one would get in such a system ?
I would say Wiim Mini exceed my expectation. The sleek and responsive app, good sound quality with DENAFRIPS DAC, is my recommendation for mid-fi system.
@@VinshineAudio Thanks for your reply. In truth I already have a Chromecast audio puck which is similar to the Wiim Mini and I suspect would give similar sound quality when used with a Dac of a similar standard to the Denafrips Ares ii. I intend to buy a DAC which I can connect to the Toslink optical output of the Chromecast audio.
@@giulianof8687 Yes I did see that myself. The RCA output was not so good ! Another youtuber, Audiofool, however found a difference in sound quality between the Chromecat Audio and Cambridge Audio CXN feeding the same external Dac through their optical outputs so the 2 findings appear to be inconsistent !
