I came to Denmark for a long weekend, that turned into 20 years, two kids, a new outlook on life, and a great career. I can't imagine living anywhere else, I feel more Danish than English, now. When people ask my nationality, I say I'm Danish.
The British values, that made them stand up against Hitler Germany and support Denmark and our resistance in our darkest hour, have never been forgotten. As you know, we Danes keep statistics about nearly anything to try to improve our society where we can. British immigrants are not over represented in any crime/conviction statistics but truly aim to integrate, why Brits are heartily welcome. After 54 years maybe calling yourself a Dane with British roots seem more appropriate but whatever you prefer.
As a dane, i'm really glad you had a good experience. The danish culture can be very relaxing and refreshing. Happy you and your family enjoyed your stay!
As a dane I love that more people are starting to notice my country, cuz it always seems like Sweden and Norway are the countries people think about when talking about Scandinavia.
We do rend to get overlooked because we aren’t as “impressive” as the big ones. Like when you see nature documentaries they will usually don’t bother with us because most of what we offer can be found in other countries, or in a Vikings series they will typically film in Norway because it’s more harsh. They literally took famous Danish Vikings and made them Norwegian for the Vikings series which takes place in a fictional town in Norway called Kattegat and then includes Hedeby which actually was a Viking town but located in southern Jutland.
@@thedanishcatgirl3205 Dane here. I'm a huge viking nerd, and watching Vikings has made me cringe (a LOT) a lot of times. I do still watch it, since it is entertaining, but I still get a little bit triggered when I watch it sometimes 🤣.
To me, Denmark looks exactly like The Netherlands or Northern Germany (flat, bicycles, windmills, brick architecture, etc.). Sweden and especially Norway are completely different with spectacular scenery.
"Slow down and appreciate all the good moments life has to offer" - this was a good reminder of what our overall impression is for others. Even as a Dane myself, I sometimes need to remind myself to calm down, relax, and appreciate life.
Dane here, (well, about 98% of the comments here are Danish 😅, cmon, we like to get a bit of praise sometimes!). I absolutely loved this video! The vibe, the way it's filmed, the commentary and the nice little happy family enjoying their time 😁. It warms my heart so much. Please, PLEASE come again any time 😊😊.
So, you have discovered "hygge" for yourself.😊 I live in Hamburg and am often in Denmark and southern Sweden - it's not really that far - and I can confirm your positive impression. What I like about Copenhagen is that it's a very bicycle-friendly city, even Freiburg and Münster can't keep up. One more thing: the Scandinavian "y" is pronounced like the German "ü", and the Danish "ø" and the Swedish "ö" almost like the German "offenes ö", O-umlaut with open mouth.
Id say Germany has hygge on point with your Christmas markets. When you visit so often do you look forward to the Fehmarn tunnel being done? I live right next to it.
This year I Visited Copenhagen and Denmark for the first time in my Life . I instantly fell in love. The moment I finish my last 10 working years in Germany I am going to move to Denmark asap❤
Dane here... Thank you for your very positive impressions of our country. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! Hope you will come back at some point and see the rest... 😊😊
If you're ever in Denmark again, I recommend visiting the South, near the German border. A little Island called Rømø and Als, Southern Danes are some of the most friendly and kind people around. Having lived in Denmark for 23 years, 6 of those in the South, I can't recommend it enough!
That and the northern part of Jutland is to die for. As well as the "Nose" of Jutland, with its many bays and beautiful beaches. Or simply just the miniature countryside and "big city" imitation of Fyn and Odense, with the little isles south of it.
Next time you go to Denmark, go to the southern part of Fyn, to Svendborg and Faaborg and sail around the Islands on a beautifull summerday. I have lived there my whole life and every time im out in the world, as I Travel alot, i allways come back home, knowing that i live at the best spot on the entire planet.
Beautiful people tend to see beatiful things👍👍 So happy that you all had a great vacation - and that the Danish summer weather did NOT let you down🤗 Thank you for sharing the wonderful film👏
For many years, till an unfortunate war (One of many, actually), Skåne was also part of Denmark, and this is why our Capital is to the eastern side, originally in the middle.
I hope, you'll be back. So much to see here. You gotta visit the west coast of Jutland. It's almost all one long coast, of sandy beaches, Cosy villages, thousands of summer homes for rent (and tenths of thousands of Germans on holiday).
Btw., it was on one of the islands south of where you were, that the Cuba crisis started. Danish national guard first spotted the Russian fleet of ships, on their way to Cuba.
That can't be true, our (Dutch) royal family has two ships, and I bet every royalty in the middle east has at least one ship. I think it is extremely hard to find a royal family without a ship.
My late grandfather used to live in a similar quaint house with thatched roof and seeing this brought back so many fond memories of running around in the garden on a summers day and the feeling of serenity and "hygge" that used to be in the house. I miss that a lot!
This video has such an amazing feel to it, I love it. As a dane myself I’d say this video does a fabulous job at capturing the very best this country has to offer.
So glad you enjoyed your stay! These recordings are absolutely wonderful and makes me appreciate being Danish even more. Thank you for capturing our country in such a life-like and flattering manner.
Stevn was once a pirate area, where fake lighthouses was set, to lurk ships into shallow waters with cliffs and when the got stock they were plundered. I have ancestors ftom that area 😂
You made som very nice pictures from my country. Thanks for that. I have lived in this, my home-country for most of my life. I have also seen the other side of it and know, that not all that shines, is gold. But dont get me wrong I love my country. What you see as a small wonder is everyday life here. It makes me wonder, what its like to live where you and your family lives. I see the news, I read the papers and I do feel sorry for what once was a great nation.
Glad you liked your visit. The pronucianton could of corse be well worked upon :D for instance its nyhavn as in "new harbour" and please for anyone coming, please also go and visit the area called "Holmen" (translated: "the dockyard") it used to be the military dockyard for the danish navy. Some of it is still in use, but much less than before. There are now a area for street food and there is navy frigate that is now converted into a museum.
Thank you for a wonderful presentation of my homeland, Denmark. It made me fall in love with my own country♥. As for Nyhavn, it is with a "y" as in "youth", and translates best as "New Haven" or New Harbor :) 😊 it is no critique, but I find it fascinating to find the corresponding name in English 😁
Thanks for this Trey. What I think is unique about Copenhagen is its history that you feel by the presence of all of the 16th & 17th century buildings. It is an OLD city but has historically been a wealthy city, however never a huge city. Other European capitols are often time much, much bigger, or as with some of our Scandinavian friends the wealth has been acquired much later and therefore lags the big, beautiful, OLD buildings and monuments. When, as a Dane, you visit very young countries like the US or Australia you immediately notice the lag of history. I love both, but that is something you only get in Old Europe.
If you ever come back to Denmark you should really visit the other parts of Denmark. In my opinion, the most beautiful places exist outside of Zealand, but I may be biased as I live in one of these parts
Cool video. It deserves millions of views. And thank you for liking my country Denmark. Next time you come, then try the roadside stores with vegetables, strawberries, egss. They are not staffed. You just walk in and take what you need and either put cash in a box or transfer with mobilepay.
Denmark is indeed an wonderful place, many didn't realize it, I am Greenlandic, but living here on Denmark since 2005, and will be until I stop breathing. - Inflation is most place now, but danes didn't realize how small prices are, even on inflation we are on now. On Greenland, the prices are ridiculous, and I can't imagine how high they went when covid - and this conflict between Ukraine And Russia happened.
As a Dane I feel like it is appropriate to say Greenland is spectacular. The vast scenary is so amazing. I am proud that Greenland is part of the Kingdom and I wish we could unite more closely.
Have to say as half Dane and half Swede who grew up in both countries our countries are amazing. I left for 3 years to study and live in Ireland, it was cool but when I first came home for a week after 1 year I realised I don't want to live anywhere else but Göteborg my home city. Also good fact in Sweden we have really very good sweet deserts in general absolutely anywhere.
Denmark is beautiful and so are the Danes! Come to northern Germany for a nice vacation, you'll find out that the people here have in some ways more in common with tha Danish than with the Swabians. I can't leave without mentioning that while Malmö and the district Skåne are nice, the "real" Sweden only begins some hours north of it. Some people even say, you have to get north of Stockholm, I personally think that Blekinge and Småland are good places to start.
Great video! I’ve been in Copenhagen and Malmo a couple of weeks ago and totally agree with your view. More than knowing how to live, they really know how to enjoy life… And they built a society that matches that way of life…
A Dane is writing... Denmark is maybe a small country. But have a lot to offer. From the northernmost point Skagen to the southernmost point Rødby... you can feel the Danish expression of "hygge" all around the country special in the more local places...
Ohh my god what beautiful hair your wife have ❤❤❤❤❤ I wish my Scandinavian hair would look like that. I’m glad you got to visit Malmö too even though I like in Denmark I really love to visit Sweden ❤
Great video, and even better when you instally know, that the church you where at was "Højerup gamle kirke". Small sidenote: it is not pronounced Steven as the name but rather StÆvns.
When you live in it, it's easy to forget it. Happy you had a good time, in spite of being in Copenhagen. ;) Next time you have to check out Jylland! Århus even got nominated as the most beautiful city in Europe a few years ago, and one article called it the Venice if the north, and the beaches near Skagen created their own artistic movement ^^
Your kid looks so tired ;) - Great video. I hope you will consider visiting Scandinavia again. Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki are great cities but of course Copenhagen is the best. Dane writing this ;)
next time you visit try time it with the around denmark event.. its old sail ships in large numbers and its a wonderful sight. also maybe visit the frigate jylland after that.. last steam frigate left in the world. built in 1860. its open to public and its history for all senses. im sure junior will find it interresting too with all the 44 cannons and stuff XD. oh yeah.. it is also possible to book so you can sail along on some of the ships at that event.
remember Denmark is more than the seaside and COpenhagen. next time try århus. the biggest small city or the smallest big city. and just 15 minutes by train is the home of the most beautiful festival in august. where every day life takes a step back and pure fun begins. it is also my home so I am biased. south of us is the original Legoland that brings out the child in all of us.
Almost cried watching this. I'm Danish, and until I started travelling to meet international friends around the age of 18, I had no idea what I had been born into. I still think most Danes just... don't realize what a blessing they are born with, but living with people from much poorer countries makes you realize just how insanely nice it is to live in Denmark, and hearing it from another person just reinforces that. Ain't none of us do anything to deserve this, so it's good to remember that we're also responsible for making good use of that gift.
