Peter Fonda was never a very good actor but he is a legend in the business. Hopper was good, but not great. Neither could ever transcend their own personalities the was Nicholson was able.
@@richarddecredico6098 I believe Hopper was in fact a great actor. Even tho he only had one single oscar nomination in his entire career as an actor, he had a very powerful personality and character presence in most of his movies. He also was never cast in the roles that Nicholson and other A list actors were in which didn't allow him to get the respect and recognition he deserved as an actor. I'm not saying he was on Nicholson's level, but he was still one of the very best in the business for a very long time.
I remember seeing "Easy Rider" at a drive in many years ago. When Jack came on the screen everybody said "Who IS this guy?" People had the same reaction when Al Pacino came on the screen a couple of years later in "The Godfather". Two truly star making performances.
Easy Rider is one of the greatest films ever made and Jack Nicholson is a great actor so is Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda. I was sad to learn recently of Hopper's death and he died 10 years ago and I had no idea. Rest in peace. 🌹
Jack ruled the timeline he was present in the movie. He was just amazing! I loved Easy Rider. I am SOOO glad my favorite actor had a part in one of all time favorite movies! :)
Hopper was an art collector and became rather humble towards the end of his life as he was clean and sober.I think he had his fill of the hype and plastic people who seem to engage in the movie biz........
TheGuyWhoIsAustralian LOL!! Trying to get through to you guys!! Live your own lives. These people don’t give a fuck about any of you. They’re NOT any more special than any of you are. Peace out.
I thought Fonda and Hopper had fallen out after making easyrider and never made up.....but they seemed o.k going out on stage together. The power and respect of the Jack.
Nicholson was THE ONLY ACTOR in the film (for all his "method" talk BS, Hopper could only really play his own whacked-out crazy self l, and Fonda could only mug a long, tall silhouette) . Without Nicholson it would have been a dull, drugged-up bore if a film with a great rock. soundtrack.
The story goes that during a pre-production meeting, Torn accused Hopper of pulling a knife on him. Then Hopper accused Torn of pulling a knife on him. Volatile actor meets volatile actor. Later, Torn sued Hopper for defamation and won. "Hopper was going through a very bad time during production (something he later put down to marijuana "not being his creative drug of choice"). He was in a state of drug-induced paranoia and yelled at everyone. Crew members secretly recorded his tirades and sent the tapes to the production company in LA to explain why so many of them had quit the film." (from another site I can't cite here; YT erases the post)
Jack working and hanging out with Hopper did wonders for his acting skills, he could never of pulled off One flew over, and The Shining without meeting Hopper.
The reason Nicholson got the part was because the guy originally cast in the role, Rip Torn, quit the movie after he and Hopper got in an argument and Hopper pulled a knife on him. (Hopper later claimed on TV that Torn was the one who pulled a knife, Torn sued him for slander and won). Nicholson was known to be dependable by the guys who ran the production company Raybert. I think I saw in a documentary that Nicholson was working for Raybert, going out on location to check up on progress with the filming because Hopper seemed to be out of control. When a replacement was needed for Torn, Raybert wanted to get things moving again and demanded that Nicholson fill in for Torn.
Hopper and Fonda haven't gotten along since during the filming of Easy Rider, and they argue bitterly over who should get credit for the success of the movie. You can see it here, when Hopper calls it "my movie," and Fonda talks about how "I" spent the $392.00 on Jack Nicholson. And Fonda makes a veiled reference to the dispute when he jokes, "Actually I'm going to tell you how Jack got the part." The unnamed actor who wouldn't work for scale was Rip Torn.
the film, the guys who brought it to life,1969 on was a helluva time to be alive watching these men evolve into genius actors, and genius they were together, harley riding badasses RIP DENNIS AND PETE
@@benjaminmeyers9454 Entertainment has always been political my friend. A lot of Shakespeare's plays were full of satire that targeted the British crown and social norms of the time.
I saw the movie in August, 1969 and remember being really upset and angered by the ending. I do remember Nicholson in the campfire scene and thinking he's really cool.
BEN HARDY & CLIFF VAUGHES Should have gotten those awards! Without those bikes easy rider wouldn't have been an classic film! 2 black men built those bikes & was not acknowledged in the movie credits. Nor did they put ben hardy in the easy rider magazine because they were BLACK! RIP CLIFF VAUGHES RIP BEN HARDY! ✊🏿🏍️
The only one I know of was The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, where he played the Character "The Roman". I also think he was the villain in Ghost Rider, But i'm not sure.
