So you know Dennis Prager fundamentalist religious fanatic. Fortunately for him in the religion that he practices he's allowed to get divorced multiple times. He's been married and I want to make sure I'm right because this is a very sensitive issue for him. He's been married three times. divorced only twice. Again, apologies. At one point I said that he had been divorced three times. when in fact he's been married three times. only divorced twice. and he was very upset about this. That's why he refuses to talk to me. I wonder why he'd be so sensitive about that. he's got some very interesting ideas about gay people though. John in Chardon Ohio says homosexuals are born that way. and they're children of God. they certainly are children of God. and I think male homosexuals are largely born that way. I don't think that it's genetic but it might be hormonal in the womb. female homosexuals and a much more complex issue because female sexuality can go in all directions. I'm just trying to understand what this means. male homosexuals. he's I'm afraid to as. k what the day to say the male homosexuals. This is even saying that it's just like oh my God this is 1952 and this is like I'm in an I'm in a scientist outfit.

He said "it might be hormonal in the womb", which I assume means he thinks that if a mother has too much estrogen in her womb her male fetus will be turned gay. I'd point out that when talking about this sort of thing a person being born gay and a person being genetically gay aren't the same thing. Calling it genetic would mean there's a gene that can get passed from parents to children that causes them to be gay. There are plenty of ways things can go wrong when an embryo/fetus is being assembled that will cause non-genetic but no less permanent effects. To my knowledge there doesn't seem to be any pattern of homosexuality running in families, which you would see if it had a genetic cause. This is all before you even get to questions of culture, since how common same sex...well, sex is varies heavily across cultures, unless every ancient Greek man just happened to be born gay. So is this all to say that Dennis Prager is correct? No, I doubt he has any idea what the words coming out of his mouth mean. But I guess the pedant in me had to say that homosexuality can both be not genetic and not something you can change with conversion therapy at the same time.

I think it just reflects our society’s idea that male sexuality is binary and fixed whereas women are allowed to be fluid (but also taken less seriously.) like in his mind there’s no way a man would ever choose to be gay so he’s allowing for possibility that there’s some biological mechanism

Yeah, I’ve noticed for years that anti-gay men seem particularly fixated on denouncing gay men but rarely explicitly denounce gay women. I think it has a lot to do with personal disgust with the idea of seeing men as sexually attractive, whereas with gay women the disjunction in sexual viewpoint is more abstract. A similar phenomenon happens with trans women getting a lot more talk than trans men, but I think that one has more to do with the right wing and TERFs weaponizing narratives regarding the supposed “danger” they pose to women.

There is some evidence that male homosexuality is correlated with birth order, and that there is a higher percentage of gay guys among the later children born. It's very likely, however, that homosexuality is a multi-factor phenomenon and can not be simplistically attributed to genetics, prenatal conditions, or early childhood experience. People who expect monolithic explanations for things like this show themselves to be scientific illiterates.
