It’s a fantasy concept lol but the reality of the fantasy concept is if you bring any team into a different era they have the skill set and the resources provided in that era. A professional basketball player can adapt to anything we watch it all the time. So players today would be able to play back then and vice versa. Rodman played through more than 1 era and guarded all five positions even Jordan but of course he wouldn’t shut down Bron most stars aren’t getting shut down, but best believe he’d be one of the top players with a high defensive rating and impacting the game.

It doesn’t always work that way. At the beginning of the discussion you decide if you’re making a fantasy discussion OR if you’re literally copy and pasting a players abilities. You’re implying that Rodman would magically score 15-20 a game cause he’s being dropped into a different era. Shaq’s FT and 3pt percentage is gonna skyrocket if he was drafted in 08. Mutombo is gonna be faster, etc. The fantasy setting doesn’t work for a lot of players.

The best defenders ever can't shut down great players consistently. There's gonna be maybe a game or two here and there where they can slow them down, and force them to play a certain way, but at the end of the day, defense is just reacting to what's happening on offense. So thats why just pretty good scorers can give elite defenders buckets on some nights.

Everyone only brings up how Lebron’s opponents would be against him when no one is mentioning how Lebron himself would be allowed to be more physical against everyone else. @@acason4 you took me so literal. I know he didn’t average 40 pts lol. For your info Shaq averaged 26.8 points and 12.8 rebs against Rodman in his career so that 23 is incorrect. Shaqs career high is 46 points. I was just he did good against Shaq but great defenders are not shutting down great scorers. Also when Orlando got swept, Shaq averaged 27 points and 10 rebs and shot 64 percent from the field. I’m sure if Shaq got fed the ball more he would’ve put up more points. He put up only 18 shots a game.

@@jaydell4039 You’re just demonstrably wrong, so I’m done wasting my time as I gave the EXACT #’s to you:) Feel free to go to the box scores on basketballreference.com as it has each of the 9 games over the course of the 3 seasons in which Shaq played against Rodman/Chicago & in those 9 games he had: 213 total points for an average of: 23.6 points per game! 20% LESS than his season averages!!! The overall point was if Rodman could guard a dominant offensive player like Shaq then he’d undoubtedly be able to guard Lebron. I was correct on both points...😉

Thank you! I've been saying this for a long time. If you're comparing eras, you have to factor in how players would adapt. LeBron would be even stronger and Steph would have to be stronger to be able to get in the paint. The rules count!

Lebron would be DPOY with the old rules if he could hand-check and play dirty. He almost got DPOY in 13 with the soft rules that didnt allow him to use his strength

It's always good to have another perspective in media to induce thought and good conversation about the game. I think he knows what he's doing from a business perspective crating his own niche which is to attract the new school baller. I just think that he may exaggerate his view to make a point like Dennis Rodman. He's same height as Draymond and being 210 doesn't determine strength (i.e. powerlifting). Crossovers and step backs aren't something new. Even John Stockton known to be apart of a good system offense could take you 1 on 1 and score especially in the 80s when he played more mpg. I feel that younger guys who haven't seen them play will believe him 100% but actually seeing these players you ll appreciate gifted players in all decades.

Yeah Rodman mindset. Shawn Kemp averaged 23 points in the Finals in 96. If he's not stopping Shawn Kemp, he ain't stopping Bron. Karl Malone was basically averaging the same numbers as he did in the regular season when he faced the Bulls in the Finals. So stop it with the make-believe stories with no stats to back it up.

I love gil, but I disagree with him on this one. Taking away hand checking and defense 3 seconds in the paint have greatly effected the game. It's not that players are more athletic, it's rules changes that have seriously hindered guys ability to play defense.
