He was part of the negotiations in Korea. If anyone said he wasn't, total bullshit. The Kim Regime are massive basketball fanatics. In the 90s, the Clintons took an NBA signed basketball to North Korea as a symbol of peace. Yeah, that was almost 30 years ago. Now, that Dennis is over there frequently and he shows up and a prisoner (Oto Something...) comes home, and then multiple remains of PoWs come home. If anyone thinks that Rodman was not involved, totally dead wrong. Rodman deserves a MASSIVE amount of credit
I hope the Bulls organization does decide to retire Rodman's jersey the fans here do show a lot of love for the greats, he was a key part of one of the best NBA teams ever, 95-96 Bulls
Rodman deserved both, being inducted into the HoF and having his number retired by Detroit. And he may be humble, but HELL YEAH was he a part of Detroit's success...defending guys like Magic, Worthy, Parish, McHale, Bird...being named twice defensive player of the year, being the league's leading rebounder. He was one BIG piece in this Detroit puzzle I'd say..not only a simple one.
+LycanVonWolf I find that strange as he was a starter for the second championship year from midway season onwards. Even before that he was vital in stretches.
LycanVonWolf he’s never felt he was a big part of that team. When they wanted him to start, he didn’t think he should be starting, but the rest of the team told him he should be starting
Rodman always said he felt like he finally could be himself when he joined CB,he never felt like he could be himself around the DP team,I think he finally felt like he was liked and appreciated more in Chicago & he was actually huge fans of both Jordan and Pippen
You're wrong, Rodman. You more than deserved to have your number retired in Detroit. You were fundamental to that organization. They were really blessed to have you.❤ #BadBoyPistons
Chuck Daly helped mode Rodman and the entire city of Detroit knew about him being homeless and coming from a so so college and playing and we respected that because he was somewhat a symbol that anyone could come up. Chicago wouldn't never had brought Rodman in if he didn't play the way he did against Chicago
Dennis seems like such a sensitive soul. He is so in touch with his emotions & has been so hurt by people. His heart is just covered in Scars. He is so heartbroken. His childhood really damaged him, to such a point, he could never over come it. He pushes anyone or thing, that could get close to him. Away!. He is so Afraid of being hurt, feeling loved & Valued to then be abandoned and heartbroken. I just want to hug him. And tell him he is worthy, good enough, cared for, valued & appreciated. Not that he would truely believe it.
Detroit retires numbers based on the way a player plays. Not solely how long he plays there. It seems to be more of an honor to show players what type of play is expected. Work hard. Do your job.
In his first year or two in Detroit, Dennis Rodman was a sparkplug on OFFENSE. A typical sequence would be something like: "Spider" Salley would block a shot, then "Worm" Rodman would outrun everyone to the other end with the ball for a dunk. Very young Rodman was known for his energy and hustle -- a gazelle that no opponent could keep up with.
What are you talking about? He was a part of our Bad Boys teams and two of our only three championships, saying he was more appreciated in Chicago is a ridiculous statement.
His # was 91?? Whether he deserve it or not, retire the # to make the guy's dream come true, it's not like anyone else is ever gonna don the # anyway. I'm sure MJ & Scottie wouldn't have a problem with that. Without Rodman, we may not have won those 3 rings....
His number deserved to be retired in both Detroit and Chicago. Great player, greatest rebounder ever, one of the greatest defender to ever to play the game. Hall of fame worthy
Dennis didnt really start blossoming till his last 4 yrs in detroit but he had his most memorable moments in chicago I think he was at his best in chicago
Rodman won three titles as a bull, that’s great... but Rodman was and is still a piston at heart and his true basketball family is here in Detroit. Rodman grew up in Detroit. Michael treated Rodman as a coworker, nothing more than that.
DETROIT MADE THE BULLS BETTER! Rodman was a janitor with size before the nba, pistons opened a door for him and made him a great bakstball player, yes he was good on the bulls but was good on both
The fact that Chicago Fans and Detroit Fans are fighting over who loves/appreciates RodZilla more shows how Great he truly was. Top 10 PF of All Time!!! As for younger NBA fans saying that Draymond Green would outplay Rodman......................LOL!!!!!!! RodZilla would have Draymond Green in the Crazy House by Halftime!! The mind games Rodman would play on Green would drive him Crazy!! By the end of the 2nd half, Draymond wouldn't get kicked out, but would willingly RUN off the court Crying for his Mommy!!!! lol!!!
It sounds like he likes Chicago a lot more than Detroit. Which is totally his prerogative! I say we un-retire his number until he truly reflects on what Detroit fans are all about.
Such a telling interview. The Chicago love vs. Detroit. Maybe why Mr. #11 was jealous being in Detroit rather than getting his hometown love from the 2nd best city in North America? Instead it went to MJ...as did the 90s.
Classic example of how shallow people will let appearance define a players worth, hands down Dennis is one of the GREATEST DEFENDERS OF ALL TIME, Shaq says to this day "The Worm" was the one person that gave him fits on the court...Chicago do the right thing already HONOR "The Worm".... retire #91
I agree with the comments. Chicago has to retire his jersey. He was a big piece and Pippen had an interview where he stated that they needed him to be the last piece of the puzzle. Not that they didn’t have a great, well talented team, but the fact he has a lot of court presence and is a pure defensive god.
7 years is a very long time to be with a team even back in the 80s n 90s. Wilt got his numbered retired with the lakers and he was there only 4 seasons
He only played for the Bulls for 3 seasons. I love Dennis and he was a HUGE reason for the second 3-peat, but he just didn't have the longevity with the team to have his number retired.
It's too late now haters, Dennis Rodman jersey is already retired in Detroit #10 jersey. He started his career for the Pistons from 1986 to 1993 and won two championships. Please get over it!
for Dennis Rodman to say he was just a "piece of the puzzle" on those Pistons championship teams is ludicrous. Without him, no effing way the Pistons win two titles
It’s sad hearing how basically his jersey being retired in Detroit meant nothing. He was a fan favorite, a intricate part of our team. And dismiss that to beg for a spot beside Jordan and Pippen. It’s like a stepfather getting praise cause he lets the kid drink in the house, so the kid thinks he’s cool. But his father raised him right, taught him life, made him work for whatever he wanted. He’s the one that really loves him, but gets dismissed by the child. Lost a lot of respect for Rodman....
No matter what he thinks, he obviously deserved to have his number retired in Detroit. He will always be remembered as one of the most famous members of one of the city's most iconic teams
it's probably because he only played 3 seasons for the Chicago bulls and may have a bad relationship with the organization but his number should be retire
Of course he is wrong. He was the best defensive player I had ever seen when he played for Detroit. He won a couple defensive player of the year awards while in Detroit. He deserved it.
He struggles with being what people what him to be. In his book he talked about being clean cut etc etc and how it wasn't working anymore for him. As he sat with a gun to his head, he thought he should change. Mental health isn't like a broken back, sometimes you can't see it.
Partly because he is crazy :) and partly because it put him out there. He wasn’t getting paid, and doing crazy stuff allowed him to be in the media, to market himself
Graham has kind of a feminine approach to his interviews it's a little disconcerting at times. The guy needs to just straight up be a guy and talk straight to his interviewees. Watching him hang with Shaq was extremely difficult. I wish he would connect to his interviewees in the right spot
