Around 1960 there was Lassie or Fury or My Friend Flicka or Father Knows Best or Dennis the Menace before dinner. Then after the news we'd watch 57th Precinct or HongKong or The Untouchables or The Twilight Zone. Those were good times. There was also The Mickey Mouse Show or Disneyland earlier, of course. I still remember that recalcitrant little kid played by Jay North yelling "Hellooooh, Mr Wilson!" as if it were yesterday. Thanks for posting this. Good memories!

It's sad how things have changed since this series aired. This comes from an era when adults didn't feel the need to protect children from everything. Dennis is allowed to explore, allowed to make mistakes, allowed to learn about life. Any sitcom from this era will show the same thing.

Larry Mondello's ("Leave It To Beaver") Mom, playing the babysitter -- an interesting character no matter what role she assumed. I never thought much of this show as a kid and was involved in too many other fun activities to be bothered with a lot of TV viewing, so watching this now is not only new but also quite entertaining. Jay North and Joseph Kerns were well played as the antithesis of one another. A well-scripted, well-acted sitcom that ages well. I wonder if Jay North ever received something like the equivalent of a child Oscar (Emmy?)? He should have for the weight of this show carried on his precocious little shoulders. 8/2019

It wasn't his step parents, his mother worked so his aunt was his caretaker on the set. She would abuse him if any scene took more than 2 takes and he was forced to stay at her side the entire time on the set, and not allowed to socialize with the other kids. Never heard that he loved being on the set. I hope that's true because at least then he would have gotten some relief.

Now that's the way to kick off a series. Fantastic episode. Jay North should have won an emmy, if they had had them in '59.

I have been a fan of Dennis the menace for almost 60 years through the paperback comic books that came out in 1951. There was one comic per page. I even had a rubber figurine of Dennis and Ruff which disappeared once I entered college. I grew up can without TV since I was overseas. I was in America in 1973-1974 and only then did I realize the show existed. He had a rough way to I with his mom working and his aunt became an insufferable tirent and gave him spanking after spanking when he didn't perform well. He was actually a well behaved kid I an surprised his I'll treatment didn't drive him to suicide! He is 70 now!

The 90s? This show was on in Belgium - beyond Mars - in the early 1960s. I watched it in black and white, like Father Knows Best, Lassie and other such shows. Just where in India did you live?
