Awesome Side by side comparison of the Denon Line, very useful in understanding the differences. Found your video after I just ordered the X4700H.

Awesome Side by side comparison of the Denon Line up!! I was looking at the X3700H or X4700H seems the only difference is 20 watts of power. I think I like the extra head room paying $500 more for the X4700H, but I think I want to wait for the models that are manufactured after May 2021 so it comes with no HDMI 2.1 issues.

Great video but I believe you made a mistake at 25:00 in regards to the "Fix #2" HDMI 2.1 "A" board upgrade option, that is strictly for the 2018 Denon X8500H owners to purchase the "A" 2.1 board upgrade & is not an option for the earlier 2020 affected models, if owners are affected by the botched HDMI 2.1 board their only option is to order the free clunky inelegant HDMI 2.1 SPK618 adapter box or simply return the unit for one manufactured after May 2021 with an inferior DAC solution, both options aren't ideal but it is what it is ;)

I actually like the doors simply because they help keep dust etc out of the headphone jack etc. The only issue I have ever had with any of my Denon receivers is the headphone jack( no door older model) after plugging headphones in and then removing them the unit will occasionally make a clicking sound and drop the sound while using speakers. From what I have read about this issue is that it is attributed to dust etc getting into the jack and causes this issue. I have attempted to clean out the jack with a qtip and a drop of alcohol but it still does this on occasion. It only lasts a few seconds but it is very annoying to say the least.

I guess you raise a good potential reason to embrace doors that conceal the headphone jack. While I have yet to experience that issue, your account raises up a risk vs convenience decision. -Jon

Best compare I have ever seen! Great debunk of the different. I am actually considering the avxr1700 and the box is saying 145w, features are all there just trying to work out where it fits amongst what you have spoke on? Possibly is it a new model?
@ripewave
@ripewave 2 года назад
Paul - the Denon AVR-X1700H was released October 2021, just after that video was posted. The “145W” detail you noted doesn’t align with what I have seen from Denon, but they may measure differently in some countries. On the conservative side this model delivers 80W into 2 channels at 8 ohms,20-20kHz and 120W into 2 channels at 6 ohms, 1kHz. Let me know if you have further questions.-Jon

I think it still sucks that there is only 1 8k capable input. It is a 500 dollar price increase on the 8805A processor to get you one input. I think you need at least 3 capable of 8k 60 or 4k 120 capable inputs.
@ripewave
@ripewave 3 года назад
I agree - we are still in transition to full HDMI 2.1 support. Even the Onkyo, Pioneer and Yamaha models which have 8K on all inputs don’t support the full specification which calls for 48Gbps - all 8K receivers today stop at 40Gbps. While manufacturers will point out that 40Gbps is all you need, there will come a day when content will require the extra bandwidth. We may see Gen 3 HDMI chips coming next year.-Jon

@@ripewave Thank you. Your channel is great. You provide a lot of detailed information on these products that summarizes their features and how they compare. I want to my next purchase to last for 20 years and if we get the full spec hdmi 2.1 soon across all inputs, I think the risk of new unit becoming obsolete decreases dramatically. I can't imagine the need to go beyond 8k.

The x6700h only does 13 channels of processing. Also the biggest difference between the 3700 and the 4700 is the 3700 doesn't have Auro 3D and only has 2 zones of audio while the 4700 has Auro 3D and 3 zones of audio and a little bit more power that doesn't matter since you need to double your power to gain 3db in output, the 4700h might get 1db louder than the 3700, that no human will notice that difference.

Let's talk this through as sometimes the source material I reference has an error - or sometimes I can make an error interpreting. The Denon website lists the -X6700H as a "11.2" processor so that aligns with what you are saying. When I look at the manual for that model, on page 69 (Auro-3D 13.1) they show three sets of height channels (6 ch) wired along with a standard 7.2 channel for a 13.2 (7.2.6) configuration as I mention in the video. So I got "15" from that configuration 7+2+6 = 15. Note that Denon requires external amplification for that configuration to work. I am counting all outputs with independent control, which includes the 2 LFE channels for this model. What I need to get confirmation on is whether the -X6700h is able to process all those channels simultaneously, or if the processing is limited to 13 channels at a time - which is less than what is physically wired. Thanks for the extra details on the main difference between the -X3700 and -X4700 with the Auro 3D requirements - that additional analysis certainly add clarity to the details I presented. Jon

My X4100W stopped working a while ago so I've bought an X3800H, sent it back the next day, wasn't nearly as powerful as the X4100W.

@@ripewave Could I ask you a question and hopefully you have time to reply.I have a 9 year old THX DenonAVR.I want to upgrade but would like to know if the X6700H Denon processes Dolby Pro- Logic, Dolby Digital,and normal DTS as well as the newer formats.I have a very expensive speakers 5.1 B&W Nautilus setup.II don’t want to rewire my present room.I’m moving in around 18month and will install ceiling speakers.Thank you in anticipation.
@ripewave

Looking at the Denon AVR X6700H manual I can confirm support for Digital Dolby and DTS on up to the modern day immersive formats. They do not mention Pro-Logic support but I suspect Pro-Logic has been replaced with newer forms of upmixing. I believe you will be fine with your wonderful 5.1 B&W Nautilus setup using this AVR without needing to add ceiling speakers.-Jon

I bought the Denon AVR X8500HA. It is an excellent unit but I did like the Onkyo top tier line up for playing music a bit better because the bass response appeared more present. On the onkyo units if you press music sound mode on the unit or the remote and select all channel stereo the bass response on the subwoofer has a presence to be desired. When I do the same on my new Denon AVR I don’t even know if my subwoofer even plays with that setting engaged. Please let me know while selecting multi ch stereo in sound mode setting if your subwoofer plays? Thanks to anyone that can verify this.

Thanks for that first hand account between Denon and Onkyo and how the bass output is different in all stereo mode. I always get good subwoofer output regardless of mode - but I don’t have the Denon to test.-Jon

Looking at the 3700h.. any benefits in dual control subs vs single control. I've heard about overheating issue with this model. Any suggestions to fix this this or is this still an issue.. thanks..
@ripewave
@ripewave 2 года назад
Dominick - most resolve thermal issues by keeping good airflow / spacing between components and placing fans designed for equipment racks on top of the unit. Some Denon models allow for the internal amplifiers to be turned off but that requires that you move to external amplifiers at significant cost. As for dual control of subwoofers the benefit is being able to balance the system more precisely. With a well tuned system the location of the subwoofers should not be detectable. When both subs are sent signals at the same level, it is likely that one will be more prominent due to room acoustics. This can be overcome by manually adjusting volume and phase at each subwoofer instead of the AVR. Not as elegant as setting 100% from the AVR and Audyssey within the unit treats as one output. -Jon

external amp what brand?
@ripewave
@ripewave 2 года назад
Not sure the question, but the amplifier brand and model should accommodate your speaker requirements. If the speaker is efficient- 90db+ and has a nominal load impedance of 8 ohms, most amplifiers with drive them safely. After that it comes down to your budget and desired tone and quality. Check out our series on amplifiers, we have covered 15 brands and still going… ru-vid.com/group/PLJlAkTXH52Zf5qE0oPra8hRHSDZTvNfZl -Jon
