@@datta230 Yeah these are Klipsch Reference Dolby Atmos 5.0.2 Home Theater System, I bought them at Costco for $899.99. Sometimes they have them on sale for $799.99. You have to buy the Subs separate though, I also bought two of their Klipsch 12" Subs for $149.99 each on sale. I also bought other Klipsch speakers for 7.2.4 system.

I’ve had this receiver for about a year now. Today I just hooked up an emotiva xpa7 gen 3 for ear level and a basx4 for height. What a frickin difference !!!!!!! It made me like the 6700h so much more !!!! Now on to Revel front stage …..

I'm in the same boat. I'm using an XPA7 with this receiver but still powering up my heights with this receiver's internal amps, which prevents me from using it in full Pre-Amp mode. I'm debating getting a BasX for my heights so I can go full pre-amp mode. Do you hear better sound quality with your external amps if you turn on the full Pre-Amp mode VS not (internal amps still on but not driving any speakers)?

@@toby9999 definitely more power more than the denon AVR6400H and the Emotiva XPA GEN3 channel power amp combo I had for me the denon really struggled to power my bowers and Wilkins and Kef speakers 7.1.4 so after a few months I bought the Emotiva with chord company shawline RCA cables and still didn’t do it for me so in may 2019 I got an email from Sevenoaks hifi advertising the Yamaha combo bought it straight away as I said best decision I’ve made check out one off my older videos on my very small RU-vid channel you can see the denon and Emotiva

Yes!! Trying to decide between the 6700 and the Marantz 7706, using the 6700 in prepro mode running 7.1.4 with a Monolith 11x. Thanks for the review. As you mentioned the 6700 gives you two more channels of processing than the 7706. Youthman's reviews have me leaning toward the 7706. Wish you had a 7706 on hand to compare the audio.

Thanks techno dad for the great tutorial on how to set up a 13-channel home theater setup with pre-outs and without pre-outs. This video is of great help to many of us home theatre owners. Also it would be nice to show us on how to use pre-outs with other power amplifiers and how they are connected from which connectors to which and also how to calibrate all speakers and tweak them to best sounding levels and which of the menus are to be played with and how maximum we can use it's potential. If any videos you've already done on that and I have missed it, kindly send me the link which I would watch and learn it. Thanks once again for this video, great work.

Thanks for the video. Denon and Marantz have updated their HDMI chipset. I have both receivers 6700 Denon and 8015 Marantz. Both just purchased recently. Certain S.N. identify themselves as the updated systems. I would love to see a test of the New Denon 6700 with a test of those new chipsets.

The X6700H is a fantastic AVR and is better than my X4700H but it still suffers from the HDMI 2.1 issue so no thank you, Channa. I'm waiting for the newer AVR's to release before upgrading. Another excellent video though, Sir :)

Well they give you an option to get that special dongle to fix the issue. But mine just froze up after 2 days. Luckily they replaced it with a new one but i agree the reliability on these new recievers seems flaky..

Txs for the video, I was kind of lost trying to set up 13.1 with VOG. Funny thing is that the VOG was disabled when I tried to do a tone test, I was pulling my hair for 1 hr and could not figure out what I did wrong, I thought I plugged into the wrong pre-out, lucky I was able to activate the VOG, when configuring the speakers to small and large, the VOG was set to None. I can't understand why Denon would have None as an option.

I have this receiver setup as 11.1 (7.4.4). However, I just got a 2 channel amp that I would like to use to power the left/right back surround speakers. What do I need to do in the Amp Assign screen to make it work? It seems that all pre-outs have to be assigned before they work. But I do not see a way to do it. The pre-outs do not seem to be ON by default. I have tried every channel but the front L/R and the Height 3 speakers. I do not get any sound from it.

Got my 6700 H a few weeks back and it's time to get her up and running. Planning ahead to install a couple of buttkicker transducers, I'm curious if the 4 bass outputs can have different cross-overs ? I have a miniDPS 2X4 HD to calibrate my 4 subs, so I'll only be using one of the subwoofer outputs. I'm wonder if I'll be able to use one of the other 3 outputs into another pre-amp but also be able to assign cross overs and distance for time alignment with out affecting the other output into the miniDSP ? I'll figure it out once I have it out of the box, but I was hoping you'd have an answer for me on that one now ? Thank you !!

Which would most people prefer, 9.X.4 or 7.X.6?

I think it's also a matter of room size and type. For a long room with multiple rows (train type) probably 9.x.4 with Atmos inceling. For a short rectangular room which is also relatively tall, most probably 7.x.6 AURO/DTS X pro.

I have the 6700 running 11.1 with Left/Right/Center, L/R Surrounds, Front Wides and Front & Rear Heights. I just got a Emotiva BasX 3 channel amp to run my front stage. So if I saw correctly on your video, I would set my amp configuration to 13.1 and the front left and right speakers to “Pre Out” and the center channel would also run through the external amp even though it doesn’t show on the Denon configuration screen? Thanks for all your great info and help.

@@dsellars The Denon on its own is great. What I’ve noticed so far with the BasX is the little subtle differences in the clarity of my front stage, especially the center channel. Voices seem to be cleaner and and it just seems to make the overall sound improve and separate better. One of the main positives is the lighter load on the Denon also. Even though I have fans on top anyway, it runs much cooler now so I’m sure it will be a benefit. I have a fan on top of the BasX as well, but that thing runs cool even without it. For the reasonable price and improvement in overall sound and performance, I am totally satisfied with the addition of it.

Hi I'm getting a new 6700h. And my true question is I have an 2014 onkyo tx-nr838 avr. I want to do the max setup on the denon. I understand the pre outs. But how or were do I conect them into? The only inputs my onkyo have are source inputs like tv/sat/ and other similar ones. How will the onkyo out put to speakers if rca,s are going to different sources. I'm so confused. And since I'm out in the country I have no one else to ask. Some help would be appreciated. Thanks darrell

Thanks for doing this demo. I've just ordered this receiver and 4 height speakers to go 7.1.4. For height speakers do you advise to do the heights front and back. Does it depend on where you sit as my seating is slightly more towards the rear of the room. Would the rears be better to the side of the seating position. I don't want to mount the speakers and then have to move them around so your advice would be great.

Hi Nick, great question! I would go front height and rear height in the Denon Setup menu. If you're seating position is such that you don't have much room, then mounting them above your surround speakers pointing inward toward your couch would work. That's what I have to do as well.

Can you suggest a low budget Amp for me to add 1 martinlogan motion 6 speakers as my center height channel and a decent amber series ribbon tweeter monoprice speaker for voice of God channel I have martinlogan motion 6 x5 for all top height channels and two motion 2 for low level rears I also have a nice polk inceiling higher model 2012 model to use just haven't tested cuz one is new and comes with a inclosed canister to make it ported or not not sure if holes will align or which one that would match better to my full ML setup

Great Vid! Learned a lot how would you recommend enabling a 7.1.4 with a second set of surround L&R for a second row? How would should I duplicate the surround channel for that second row? I have both a KDA-500 and KDA-1000 amps KDA-1000 is for the Subs was gonna use the KDA-500 for the second row KDA-500 surround, but don't think you can duplicate a channel to be used in for the pre-amp outputs. should I move all the side surrounds to the amp and use the pre-amp output?

Will the sound signature of the denon, change after adding external 5 ch amplifier, and does adding external amplifier, reduce the heat (if any) on the denon. Thanks for a great video. I'm doing this for the first time with a 6700 and set of debut 2 speakers in 7.2.4. I'm completely clueless though beyond knowing I want Atmos for my new G1 tv, LOL.. Was wondering if you could point me to any resources for a noob. All my gear should be arriving in the next couple days. Is there anything else I need to do beyond what you show here in the menus as far as tuning the system for optimal sound or room correction? Are there any apps or any extra items I should buy to get the best sound out of it? Also are there any pre-configured profiles you'd recommend for gaming, sports, tv watching, etc.? Why I hate Audyssey and Atmos. Recently re-positioned 2 of my 4 my SVS Elevations from rear back to ceiling back and re ran Audyssey resulting in the the following channel dB levels : FL -3.0,FR -1.5, C -4.5, Sub 1 -6.5, Sub 2 -7.0, SL -2.5, SR -2.5, SBL -5.0, SBR -3.5. I next ran a manual SPL meter calibration 70bd ref level and note the differences, especially sub levels: FL -2.0, FR -1.0, C -4.0, Sub 1 0.0, Sub 2 +1.0, SL -2.0, SR -1.5, SBL -0.5, SBR -1.5. All Elevations xover 80. I then played 5 'Atmos' movies (all 7 channel) and swapped Atmos back and forth with Dolby TrueHD and, as I thought, Dolby TrueHD was, far and away, significally better of the two to my ears. Also, to my ears, DTS-MA is also more pleasing to me than Dolby Atmos - since Atmos is compressed and purely computer generated. Just some thoughts...

How will the 6700 running music in stereo, bi-amped, compare to my current denon 2807 also bi-amped and running pure direct? Specs are similar other than rated watts. The reason I ask is, I could get a 3700 and pre out the mains to my 2807 keeping the current bi-amp connected (running 4 amps of my 2807) then use the 3700 for everything else, ending with a 7.2.4. A top goal is the music running in stereo must sound just as good as today or better (movies and streaming are the most important, but that is obvious, upgrade to a 3700, 4700 or 6700 and install 4 overheads on the sides)

@TechnoDad Do you know if 7.1.6 using Top Middle will work for Auro 3D too? (perhaps as a stereo VoG channel) I sadly can't install Center Height or Top Surround in my theatre, but Top Middle is an option. I currently have 7.1.4 installed using Top Front and Top Rear and I am using an external amp to power the fronts, so I have the required power channels. Thanks in advance!

Can I ask your opinion about how this compares to the Yamaha A8? I had the A6 but it fell short of my expectations. How’s the 8’s video processing? The A6 was a bit too much contrast and washed out for me. Sound (A6) was decent but not anything special.

With the current pricing, I would go with the Denon - amzn.to/4cJX43x - I've had the X6700H for a while now and I'm still using it. I've had the older Anthem with ARC Genesis, and I don't use it much.

Thanks TechnoDad. So I have this reciever that drives a 9.3.4 setup along with a 5 channel monolith amp. Amp is currently only powering the front stage..Is there a way to get the voice of god channel in addition or am I tapped out because the reciever can only process 13 channels max..

Hey Channa. My Denon X4400 died tonight. For some reason, it will not send 4K Dolby Vision from my 2021 Apple TV to my LG C9 OLED. It starts to flicker uncontrollably. Highest setting it will allow is 4K HDR. In any case, any suggestions on a new AVR? This X6700 is a little out of my price range. I would need to stay around $1500. I saw a Marantz SR7013 for $1599. Thoughts on it or one you would suggest? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. I am/was running a 11.4.3 through my X4400 and pre-outs connecting to an Emotive XPA-5 Gen3. Floor Fronts = Klipsch RP8060FA (not using Atmos here) 4 Atmos = SVS Prime Elevation; Center = Klipsch RP504C; Floor Rears = Klipsch R820F; Side Surround = Klipsch RP502S; Subs = R120SW. When you use the AURO-UPMIXER in a 5.2.6, or a 7.2.6, can sound be heard from the Center HIGHT and VOG if it is NOT native AURO content? In other words, can a 5.1/7.1 True HD Source (or 5.1/7.1 DTS HD MA source) make use of the CH and VOG while using the AURO UPMIXER?

Nice! The X8500H will be similar. I think you won’t need to pre amp anything as it should power all 13 channels.

Depending on how much x8500 cost where you live, you might be able to buy a nice multichannel Poweramp with what you save. So you might end up with a more powerful setup in terms of power reserve.

Ha, I'm right there with ya. I've also got an X6700H. I'm actually adding a center height channel this weekend to step mine up to a 7.2.5 setup and check out how the DTSX-Pro and Auro-3D sound with that. I'm running the Elac Unifi 2.0 speakers all around. It sounds like you'll be trying it with all external amps too. I'm curious to see if you hear any difference in sound quality if you set it to full Pre-Amp mode vs not (internal amps on while using the pre-amp outs). I'm debating powering all my speakers with external amps and using mine only in Pre-Amp mode (only 7 are powered by an external amp right now).

For the 7.1.6 or 13.1 Auro3D Set-up, you only showed 2 in-ceiling speakers in the top middle for "Middle Layout". If you cycled through the other middle layout options, would there be an option for "Voice of God" TS and a Height Center (Front)? If so this would give me the greatest flexibility to switch between 13.2 Auro and a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos set-up without changing any wiring because it's a "unified speaker layout". Thanks for your expertise and advice!

Hi! Sorry about that. So when you switch amp assign to 13.1, you can set Height Speakers to 6 channels and the Front Layout can be “Front Height & Center Height” Middle Layout can be Top Surround (VOG) and Rear Layout is grayed out but set to Rear Height. Then you would have to choose which two speakers you are externally powering. Either the front L & R or the front height and top surround. So, to answer your question, yes, it can be done 7.1.6 & 13.1 with the same layout.

I have a question about 5.1.4 setup at 08:12 I have an 'extra' 5th ceiling speaker. Iit'd be good to know if Denon provide an option for 5 ceiling speakers. I have 4 ceiling (2 Front + 2 rear) + a spare which is in the middle of the 2 rear? Can this spare be assigned in the menu somewhere? Or does 5.1.4 become 5.1.5 with Auro3D at this point 08:47?

Hi! That 5th is for the Voice of God (Top Surround) Channel. It should be placed directly above you. It will only be active if you are using Auro-3D content or upmixing to Auro.

@@TechnoDad Thanks So then, if you have a potential 5th (VoG) speaker, should you use it as aVoG speaker, or just placed in another 'central' part of the room? I assume it could play normal CD audio through that speaker, too? I have seen a lot of videos which say the Dolby images / diagrams are not a good or accurate enough guide, but the installation PDF, is. The issue I will have, is that all my Atmos (JBL) speakers will jus tbe pointing directly downwards, as opposed to being angled at 45 degrees, or even vaguely slanted towards the listening position...

Hey TD, Can you solve a question I have asked in the past and now we have the HDMI Denon box fix I will ask this again, now I have 3 4K players connected to my 3700h and my xbox series x (to the 8K input) and I select ‘4K/8K Enhanced’ and then out of the Denon via the HDMI box adapter to my LG CX, will I get a picture from my 4K players that is ‘Normal’ or will I need to change it back to ‘4k enhanced’ ? As my E8 didn’t like ‘4K/8K Enhanced’ I know it’s because it is HDMI 2.0b, is that the only reason ? As I now have the CX with 2.1 HDMI, would be nice to know before I switch as I don’t wanna mess the TV up and I want to enjoy 120fps as well as my huge Blu-ray and 4K collection on my standalone players, sorry about the essay

Love this video it shows a lot of possibilitys. I have been reading the manual and there it looks like you have to choose betwen a Dolby atmos room or a Auro 3D room. But I understand that you have both laudspeakerkonfigurationes at the sama time. So my question is how to konfigurate and how to connect? /Thomas

Hi Thomas, with Av 7706, x4700H , 6700H , SR7015, SR8015 Av8805 an others You realize an spaeakerlayout togehter with Dolby Atmos and Auro3D. Dolby allows also Front Height and Rear Height at ideal 30⁰ More infos you find avr manual and in the www.grobi.tv/media/pdf/dc/37/67/One-for-all-Setup-Guide_V5-0_englisch_publish.pdf. 😉

Yea, I’m waiting for full support of hdmi 2.1 to buy a new avr… so I will be waiting until 2022, or 2023, at which point hopefully Dennon or Marrantz, will release a full 2.1 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X supporting avr… though I will be waiting on the reviews to make sure it will support everything that comes on the Xbox series x…

My hifi dealer told me today that Denon and Marantz have fixed the HDMI/ Xbox issue as they have replaced the flawed chipset inside the reciever.

@@trasco86 yea, I’d prefer to wait it out one more year, to make sure things do truly work. For I don’t think I have seen many reviews of gamers using an avr, yet…. But I am grateful that it appears Denon/Marrantz, we’re able to figure out the bug, and hopefully create a solution, that should work going forward, which is why I am willing to wait for one more year. See I prefer tech that will work from the start without a software update, and i prefer 2nd generation tech a bit more over first generation tech.

For 5.1.4 Auro3D and Dolby Atmos please choose there Front Height and Rear height. Not Surround Height !!! With Surround Height Dolby Atmos will play only at 5.1.2. !!!

Hello, planning to get either the marantz av7705/7706 (using external amps) and want to go maninly for 11.1 for Auro3d, (5.2.4 for atmos/DTS-x) how would i assign/set up the speakers when adding top surround (VOg) and center height. My understanding is i need to use subwwoofer output 2 to amp (RCA) to be able to use TS (which means using a y-splitter to connect 2 subs). Where do i connect the Center Height speaker to? thanks in advance. i've been really hooked on trying auro3d thanks to JoeNTell and TD's videos this past month with the creator Wilfried....keep up great work!!!

I was swapping out my surround left and right speakers to. smaller B&W M1 , and while testing and reusing the same holes on my posts, the speakers were pointed at 40degree angle towards the screen instead of pointed directly towards the seats, and after calibration, it actually sounds much better. Wondering if anyone has tried this? Speakers are about 8 inches behind the theatre seats.

Hi! Unfortunately, no. The only way to get 6 height speakers on Denon is to have the X6700H or higher.

Unfortunately I don't have money for the 6700. I own now a 2600 but i want to upgrade, i need more than 2 height chanels and i need pre amp outs. Maybe this year will come out new receivers from Denon and prices will fall a bit for this generation!

@@TechnoDad the Anthem MRX-1140 is a receiver with 11 built in channels and 16 channel processing. So I think its feasible with that. My only issue with this receiver is that it does not have Auro3D. But its got everything else and you can do 9.1.6 with the addition of a few external amps

@@RahzAlGhul you would need to make sure the processor or receiver was capable of processing 13 channels. For example, the Denon X6700H, the Denon X8500H and the Sony 7000ES can all process 13 channels. The 6700 has 11 amps built in so that means to process channels 12 and 13, I would need an external amp with at least 2 channels to get there. The Denon X6700H is the receiver I am planning to upgrade to, since it has 13 channels and can do 7.1.6 processing.

Hi Mel! I use two, 5-channel amplifiers. I currently have some expensive ones, Parasound A51 and Parasound A52+. I have also used the Outlaw Model 5000 ($749), which is a good 5-channel amp. I've also used the 9-channel Emotiva XPA9 and Monolith 9X. I am currently evaluating the new Emotiva BasX A3, which is a 3-channel amp around $500.

Would you recommend getting in ceiling or just height speakers, for a 7.2.4 or 7.2.6 type set up, which I think I would also like to have the ability to play auro 3d as well, which I think means I will need height speakers as opposed to in ceiling speakers.

Nothing different sound wise. The main difference would be 13 channels of processing and the single “8K input.” There could be another small feature but I forget, so it might not be that important, lol!!

The thing that sucks is that the x4700h doesn't do 5.1.6 even though it has 11 channels of processing :( You would think that would be something they would add in a firmware update but I doubt it. btw I shy away from using the surround height setting because when you watch an atmos movie surround heights aren't recognized so audio that would normally be played through them isn't. Instead I go with a top middle setting which is basically the same.

I'm wanting to upgrade to a 4k tv that supports HDMI 2.1 and eArc and wanted to know of a good receiver that had these for my 5.1 system. My current setup can not handle 4k/120Hz. If I'm confused on what I need, please help me out.

Yo techno, remember how I said a lot of receivers like Shane and Elans doesn't output sound on front wides for lots of movies but mine would with 11.1 and no rears, looks like dolby messed it up. If you rewatch your reaction to not being able to have 13 channels (7 base with wides no rears, and only 4 heights) atmos is essentially height and wides, therefore, atmos is 6 channels max no matter the setup. NOOOOOOOOO. You said you'd be testing 9.1.6 THIS IS WHY, people with all 15 still complain front wides are useless, . Try with your testing for 15 channels and see. Prolly a limitation of hdmi (8 channel base, well 7, atmos cant just replace rears with wides as atmos wides isnt part of 8 channel hdmi while rears are - must be why i hear surround in the wides sometimes)

What is optimal 13.1 config in tour mind. Should I have VOG+center height OR front wide? Anthony Grimani suggests front wides are important - but may also work more with more than 13 channels which is out of my league (would be fun with Trianon Altitude 16, that can process 20 channels). So is there a simple answer to that, or does it depend much more on room dimensions, speakers and so on?. I don’t know. Also - what is optimal back height channels. Back heights or side heights?
